好正，見到都想食
I used to work nearby Maxwell. Not faraway, is the popular Amoy Street Food Centre. It caters mainly to the office workers & opens Mon-Fri. Many nice food stalls here. It's best to avoid lunch-time. By late afternoon, the hawkers would start to close their stalls. Worth a visit.

@@MsKarman Amoy Street Food Ctr is famous for their 2 Fish Soup stalls on the 2nd Sty (Han Kee & Piao Ji). Lor Mee also at the 2nd Sty. On the 1st sty, is the popular 'A Noodle Story' - a Japanese style Wanton Noodle. This stall attracts office workers, expatriates & tourists.

The Vietnamese lady who sells appam which is an Indian snack has a story behind why she ended up selling appam totally unrelated to her as a Vietnamese. She bid for the stall not knowing that it's only meant for Indian food and had intended to sell Vietnamese food. Only after successfully bided for the stall did she realized her mistake. Having no choice she went to learn how to make appam thus she ended up as an accidental appam seller.

呢個hawker centre都幾必去，天天海南雞飯多人排隊嘅話，就去食「阿仔」，都唔錯～ 樓上comment, 仲有推介oyster omelette, 貫腸、金華魚湯米線/ 飯。Enjoy la!!!

I wouldn't say Tian Tian is not nice, but it is definitely more expensive than most chicken rice in Singapore.

The chef used to work for Tian Tian but i think due to some dispute, he open another stall next to Tian Tian. The last i tasted was before Covid19, and it was good. =)

I tasted after the video shooting. It was quite good and I couldn’t really tell the difference. It came with soup while Tian Tian didn’t have.

妳们走过两家很传统的食档，但都错过了！新加坡卖传统的(福建式)五香贯肠只剩这两家了。而且第二家也已经结束营业了！市面上卖的是潮州式的五香虾饼。

@@MsKarman 辣椒旁边会有摆一瓶黑酱油的。不然，就和他要。所有卖鸡饭都会有的！有些鸡饭摊会有浅黄的姜蒜泥，也可配上。三合一，也就是把这些沾酱全部混合在一起！Chatterbox 配的就是这三样！

almost all chinese in malaysia can speak cantonese. but in Singapore not that common... dialects more diverse and more hokkian... even some chinese only speak english...

LOL you are at Chinatown vicinity. It is basically where most Cantonese resides. Anyway it's not surprising for us to know cantonese. I'm a Cantonese and I grow up speaking it with my grandparents. Even for my colleagues and friends who aren't cantonese, they all at least understand basic stuff even if they cannot speak cantonese. I also have non Cantonese colleagues who speak it very well as it is quite a common dialect if you grow up with the elders or watch TVB growing up. Go Chinatown hawker centre and wet market, you can freely converse in Cantonese with all the stall owners. There are a lot of excellent chicken rice options in Singapore. Tian Tian chicken rice mostly eaten by tourists😂You all didnt eat much of the chili sauce. One of the key condiment for us. I cannot eat without at least 2 plates of chili🤣 Apam is made from fermented rice, hence your friend tasted a sourish taste. That chinese dessert called dao suan😆Actually there are a few very popular traditional chinese dessert stalls in chinatown. I think you should try visit again. Lao Ban bean curd is made from instant creamer and a gelling ingredient.

I need to more training to take chili sauce. 😂 I also thought Tian Tian is for tourists as I heard the queue is always very long. And the dessert is made of fermented rice, that’s why. Thanks for explaining this.
You will have no problem w using Cantonese in Chinatown. In fact you will have no problem using Cantonese in Redhill/Tiong Bahru/Tanjong Pagar/Queenstown in the olden days but with development not sure now. There were lots of Cantonese in these areas and I grew up in a Cantonese neighbourhood where everyone speaks Cantonese in daily conversation like Hong Kong. A little bit of Singaporean Cantonese history for you.

in Singapore / Malaysia it is not uncommon that Chinese speak 5 / 6 /or even more Chinese dialects certainly Cantonese is amongst these so rest be sure anyone can survive in speaking dialects to the locals

我阿公阿媽只會潮州話！我老爸和父執輩的大部分都講潮州話，加一些些福建話和華語！廣府話聽會一些，講就很難了！我這一代也是聽可以講不行！
