@@alonemax2912 The only times where they really reuse their proper minigames (not counting stuff like arcade, bowling, darts, etc.) is when they are making it in a short time, for example Kiwami 1 with pocket circuit, Kiwami 2 with clan creator and now Gaiden with pocket circuit once again. Otherwise each game usually has their own exclusive minigames. Honestly would have preferred them to bring back Dragon Kart for Gaiden instead of pocket circuit but I guess youd be limited with tracks since Sotenbori is much smaller.

This game fills the void 6 left in me in regards to Kiryu's legacy and the franchise's history and heightens my feelings towards 5 and 6 as a whole. The atmosphere reminds me so much of Yakuza 1 and 2 as far as how intense the stakes are and the over the top nature of a lot of what happens in chapter 3 and onward. Kiryu's characterization in general in this game is something I just absolutely love. I legit would not mind a Majima, Akiyama or Saejima gaiden if RGG ever thought about doing that

@@somerandomskywalker9854If Kiryu fights anyone, he is forced by the script-writing to win. The original storyboarding for Kiryu is that he is the strong main character that overcomes everything and wins. He cannot lose. The only enemy he technically lost to is sneak-attacking Lao Gui the Chinese assassin in RGG 0. If they put him against anyone in a fair fight, he has to win, otherwise the whole story premise of his character falls apart. For example, in the lore he never lost a coliseum fight. Kiryu is the fixed fight. 'Legendary Yakuza' is a justification of him being a boring stereotype.

This game was such a blast for me, just finishing up the last platinum tournaments and substories and hopefully an amon fight. The coliseum was my absolute favourite part of it and boosts the replay value of the game which is good for a game that was supposed to be “short”. The one thing I wanted that I think would make it absolutely perfect was the option for a custom team hell rumble, where you can select your team of fighters, and then also customise the team you’re fighting against with the characters you own, maybe even an option to edit the arena stage too like some of the later platinum tournaments.

Just got the platinum today, gotta say it is an amazing game but I did have a few small gripes. Gameplay wise I was satisfied but I do think you could really feel the fact this was a 'short game' compared to other modern RGG games. We got a lot of cool new characters which I wish we could have spend more time with in the story, but the actual gameplay content on offer here is anything but short, it really is just the story. I also never really fell in love with agent style and wish they had reworked Dragon of Dojima style a bit more to give it that Yagami depth. As it stands I still think Yakuza 0/Kiwami is easily the best Kiryu combat we have ever gotten and his Dragon Engine fighting styles never really lived up to 0 or even the Judgement games which is unfortunate cause this is probably Kiryu's last game (wonder how many times we will say this in the future. 😂) But other than the stuff I mentioned the game was great, I really enjoyed my time with it.

Sega and RGG really do put a lot of work into the yakuza/like a dragon series! And it doesn’t take them a decade in between each game to release a new one! I’ve been a fan for quite awhile now and love it! The only critique I have is I wish they’d come out with one where you start off as a low level member and rise through the ranks to build up your own clan! You run businesses/rackets, decide the people and their ranks, customize your own crest and HQ, and above all takeover the region you’re in to be at the top!

The only problem I had with the story is a very minor one (which I'll say below for " spoiler reasons 🤓") In the story you have to do some repetitive stuff a lot imo. By that I mean every now and again you'll have to go back to the castle then back to sotenbori then back to the castle for minigames or plot, then you have to go to Akame's and rest on the couch a bunch. I don't remember how many times and I doubt it's as much as I make it sound like but I didn't like that they made us do that instead of just changing the time or teleporting us somewhere. Besides that the story is extremely good and I really enjoyed it. Had fun playing as Kiryu again and I can't wait to see him kick butt in 8.

I can finally join the discussion! I’ve been playing the series nonstop since April to catch up for Gaiden. I’m 16 hours in, currently in Chapter 3. Agent style is so fun, I love using Spider and Serpent (not a huge fan of Hornet or Firefly). I missed having multiple styles While also trying to catch up on Yakuza, I’ve also had another goal of playing through the Sonic series and Gaiden let me play Sonic the Fighters on modern hardware which is a hilarious concept but it’s one of the first things I did in the game. Akame is great. Enough said. I am really enjoying this game but I’m not as addicted as I expected to be and I’m not sure why.

After seeing the detail they’re putting into this, I’m starting to wonder if we’ll see a remake of 3/4/5 in the near future, the effort they put in that they really didn’t need to indicated to me that these assets might have a greater purpose in the future. (In particular the restoration of the park in Sotenbori)

Im only at chapter 2 myself but his game is amazing. Agent style feels like agreat evolution of crane from the judgments games, yakuza style feels great as ever, and the fact the upgrade system has you seeking out points doing optional content gives more insentive to do the side stuff, which is even better. If this keeps up, this would easily be one of the best rgg games

I think my biggest problem with the game, staying away from major spoilers, is that we see so little of the Daidoji Faction in the game's narrative and gameplay. I was mainly looking forward to this game so that I could be a super secret agent doing jobs for the faction, deniable ops, political subterfuge, that sort of thing. Plus play with all the fun gadgets, obviously. But after the big finale of the first chapter, it never really feels like Kiryu is an agent anymore, despite technically still being part of the faction and having Agent style with its toys. He never really cooperates with them, he goes against their orders violently on multiple occasions, and yet nothing ever comes of it in terms of real consequences. At most, he gets a slap on the wrist and left to continue doing literally anything but be an agent. It's a lot like how Yakuza 0 showed Kiryu as a young, fresh yakuza, but then rushes to immediately make sure he isn't technically a yakuza for the entire rest of the game, which was also super disappointing for me. Maybe it was on purpose, maybe I missed obvious cues by avoiding the trailers, but either way I wish the story let me feel more like an agent instead of just another Kiryu game where he acts however he wants.

I just got 1000G for this game! Fighting Amon took a lot, but doable as a heads up. Id play it again and it took me 32 hours to get all the achievements

For a filler game, I’ve had a massive blast it felt like a full entry. I had some issues at some point with the bosses and sometimes with the gadgets but overall I liked it. The agent style is fun and the Dragon with the triple finishing blow you unlock is incredible tbh. I’m 100% sure that the modders will have a nonstop field day with this game and I’m looking forward to see what they will create. Overall, it’s a nice game and I’m looking forward to what they will do after Infinite Wealth

Me and my bud absolutely Loved this game, the end made me cry and the side content was enough to keep me from actually finishing the game for a few days and that was only the colosseum, not karaoke, arcades, cabaret, or any of the other side missions. As far as the combat goes, I was able to not rely too much on heat actions and actually used the gadgets more than I thought I would, and the Yakuza style is still very fun to play with especially when you unlock everything. And to end this, a lot of the characters they introduced in this game were fun, interesting and lovable. Over i give this game an 8 or 9/10

I agree with you. I'll add something of my own. Small things, that I liked: Music - this is a mixture of the metal rock inherent in Kiryu and electronic music for a new generation (or Yagami hehe), so to speak. Some of them remind me of Mick Gordon tracks, some remind me hotline miami ( ouryu no mezame). good good Pool - I guess it's first pool mini game on Dragon Engine (rip bowling). The pool are beautifully made. In previous installments, the ball icons often blocked the top pockets, making it difficult to aim. Now the FOV is distant, so you can take aim calmly. But most importantly, RGG added an acceleration, speed function called "fast". Now you don’t have to wait for you or your opponent to complete his move. You're just speeding it up. I hope this feature will be present in other parts. Darts - mechanically remained the same, with the exception of new darts, like pencil, or rose. The rest I forgot or haven't noticed yet) What I didn’t like, what I would add, change: aim lock - still works like crap. I could relate to a large number of opponents, but no, it doesn't work well even against one opponent. What disappointed me the most was the lack of a QTE actions. QTEs in RGG games always immersed me in battles with bosses and the environment. Thanks to your actions, the course of events takes place, yes, in case of failure they show animation and you lose HP, but that’s the point. From your actions you lose HP or hit the boss with a sweeping blow. What do we see in the new game? I can only count 2-3. The last boss fight seemed cool to me in terms of music and frames, but what I didn’t like was the missed use of QTEs in the scenes. But they didn’t do this and you just watch a cutscene of two men fighting with each other. And only at the end, when you need to deliver the final decisive blow, does it appear, the sacred “Y” button on xbox. I noticed a long time ago that QTE began to slowly fade away, especially on the dragon engine. The only game that tried to revive QTE was Lost Judgment with new style of QTE, but not as much as in the old parts, if we analyze the boss fights. As a result, I will repeat again that I liked the game. Yes, there are nuances, but they do not completely cover the game and the plot. I definitely recommend it to all yakuzers, love to all.

  • 7 ай бұрын

RGG says they will make a short spinoffy game and they serve up this. I was hooked from the start, but the final stretch of the game, especially the last two battles and the ending cutscenes... I was once again reminded why I love these games, and I always will.

I'm already disappointed in 8. From the demo, we can see that the menu controls in battle still suck. It's still such a pain to switch targets. I will never understand how RGG screwed up and continues to screw this up - there is a list on the right side of the screen, the enemies are listed one below the other, let me press Up and Down to move up and down this list to select a target. Simply, easy, would work perfectly. But nooo. Instead I have to press random directions until it finally changes targets at all, then keep pressing whatever random button it decided to be this time until I get what I want, sometimes getting even more frustrated as it keeps bouncing back and forth between two enemies or just skipping over the one I actually want. There's just no way in hell I'm paying the new $70 price for this. There is no excuse for it to be this bad. In 7 this was a "this is annoying, but it's their first game like this, hopefully they fix it in 8" situation. Now in 8 it's not fixed, it's indefensible, it's a complete dealbreaker for me.

Amazing review Leon! I platinumed Gaiden a few days ago and I must say for me it is one of the best yakuza entries. I LOVED it. It was pure fanservice, especially if you went and did all the substories and additional content. The ending was just the cherry on top. (slight spoiler ahead) Frustrated that you couldn't fight Ichiban and it was just a 'scene in your head. Bummed there. Overall though, the gameplay was fantastic. Combat was great, story was great. I just really hope that in Infinite Wealth Kiryu's story is concluded with the orphanage. I can understand what they did with the end, it did make me think 'DAMN there's so much more to this.' Now... to play the IW demo!

One of the few critiques I will mention about the game is that Serpent(the jet shoes) is broken. I mean, you can beat any boss, even the last fights, or groups of people fairly easily......even with your eyes closed. Just keep going back and forth and you will win without even needing to use a single health item. I think Serpent would have been better as a city-traveling mechanic, rather than a battle option. Kind of like how Tak had the skateboard in the Judgement games.
