Alright, that was a fun video! Helicopter assault: there was also the one in Yakuza 0 during the car chase. Character disappearing: I get why they had to get rid of Tanimura in 5 with the drug mess, but they have no excuses not to get him back in the force... or actually fired for all his misdeeds. As for Shinada, I just wish he had a goodbye moment in 6 before going back to Nagoya. It feels like he had no epilogue.

30:21 Petition to rename "Daddy Issues" to "Fatherless Behavior" 😂 I guess Y4 Daddy Issues would fall under the protag side this time, for Tanimura.

Much like how Saejima & Prison, me & making stupid decisions is top tier. I've been playing Lost Judgment and trying to get through the story with minimal side content so I don't get spoiled, someone asks to not spoil Judgment since they're playing that, which worked for one time, but the second time both games were spoiled for masterminds. I didn't see "surprisingly ripped" in the list before, which is always funny, especially with characters who have no right to be like Shibusawa or Iwami.

I know it falls down in "plot armor", "death retcon", "bartenders", "Kiryu dying" and "never kills"... But the fact that "rubber bullets" wasn't present on this list makes me a little sad. It's such a powerful meme that deserved to be here. Otherwise, I pretty much agree overall. It might be your most based tier list to date. The sad substory music tough... I can't help but love that shit.

People go around saying deaths get retconned all the time but this isn’t true at all. It only ever happened twice. Kashiwagi and Lau. All other examples are body doubles (which very much exists in the real world criminal underworld) or completely completely different character.

Hmm... Death retcon I like is Kashiwagi. It's a stretch but it's believable. I can buy that we only saw him pass out and then Kiryu had to leave, but he managed to survive it. Also the stuff in 8 between him and Kiryu made it worth it to me. Hate is definitely Lau Ka Long. Dude got shot in the head. It's not believable at all that he survived. And somehow he is not only alive but also doesn't have any hint of a scar on his forehead despite the giant face scar he's always had. Richardson I'm pretty meh on. Yeah I can believe that maybe he and Mine landed in such a way that Mine took most of the impact and that's how Richardson survived. But he's also not a character I'm excited to see return, also it does leave a sour taste of "why did Mine have to die then?" too. Unless they decide Mine survived too. Mine or Rikiya for bartender in LAD9? 🤔 Or maybe they'll just go turbo stupid and bring back Kanda. Someone sewed his head back on and he's fine after a coma. I was debating Terada as well, but yeah, he doesn't count. That's an intentional part of the plot of that single game, not a later game showing up and saying "hey that character that died 4 games ago? They're alive now." Terada doesn't qualify as a retcon.

Joongi is definitely body double, not death retcon. His drink link in 7 is all about being a body double and why he keeps being a double even after the real one is dead. Also, hey, more daddy issues.

If I didn't watch them die, they didn't die...even when I watch them die. I was convinced Parker was gonna show up in the last act though.

mirror face is perhaps the most mind dumb shit that has come out of the yakuza story. bro can change his weight, height, voice, fighting style and be an exact copy of another person just because he can. it makes no sense whatsoever and should not be excused just because there are other unrealistic things in the games. if you're going to that length in the story, you might as well grant kiryu a kamehameha in the cutscenes to kill the final boss. also the kashiwagi retcon is the thing i hate the most out of any yakuza game. he was bombarded with a minigun pointblank and bro just walks it off. i really hope they don't continue this trend in 8 or gaiden becaue retconning deaths just makes impactful death scenes underwhelming

As much as I love Danny Trejo, I am absolutely outraged and offended by seeing him and, worse, John Cena quoted in the cameo sections, while Takeshi Kitano was totally ignored.

I deadass feel the same way about cliche romance. I see Saeko have way more romantic or flirty chemistry with Nanba than she did with Ichi.

Where’s the rubber bullets?

The reason I don’t mind mirror face even tho I can understand the points people make is that literally every single game in the series has at least one silly element. Kiryu not dying in that explosion in Yakuza 1. Terada being a jingeon survivor in 2. Honestly, tons about 3. Rubber bullets in 4. (I can’t remember what happens in 5) The secret of onomichi in 6. Makoto’s soap opera temp blindness in 0. I honestly see it as a bit of a style thing with how the games are written because they all have at least 1 mirror face. The suspension of disbelief argument doesn’t work for me because there’s all kinds of things in each game that are arguably immersion breaking. There are ghosts in this series. I can buy mirror face no problem because it’s nothing worse than what any of the others have.

It'd still be goofy but it'd be easier to let slide if we saw him as his own character a few times and gave some explanation as to why he can do it. But also, if Mirror Face exists, it really takes the wind out of Joon's character because apparently you can imitate absolutely anyone with enough make up. It's the fact that MF actually plays a role in the main story, as opposed to being relegated to side content or a long-fight.

I hated all face changes. The new faces are just not as they were supposed to be (ex. Hamura and Tanimura). Even in Ishin I prefered much more the original cast
