@@exaris1989 Do any of us know whats in the contracts of a Rashford, Bruno or Casemiro? Players have clauses in their contracts that dictates how much playing time they need to have. Also our owners the "dear" Glazers will have a huge say in who plays due to asset values. Think about that.

to be honest, the quality of players in the squad is very midtable considering how every team in the league has already moved on to high line, high press and high possession tactics. The only reason why our average defensive line has moved 2 meters ahead compared to the last decade is because of Onana but we're still at least 8 meters behind the top teams. Recruitment in the glazer era focused too much on who is marketable on shirt sales rather than system players that could bolster the squad which led to too much imbalance in the depth.

Players that improved: McTominay, slightly on the positioning of both ends, best personal season of his career. Maguire, performance improved. Dalot, became an all-rounded RB that United needed for a long period. Garnacho, general performance improved on the pitch, unlocking the new position on RW. In general, there are some flash moments when the team does it in transition much better than in the past few years. I don't count Mainoo and Kambwala as this is their first breakthrough season. So, I think he did a fair job on improving players. I insist on that the recruitment and poor management on the past few seasons is setting up managers to fail. And that's include ETH. Our players are too inept to adapt to any tactical instruction, we saw that in Jose, Ole, Ragnick and now ETH.

It’s hard to make tactical changes to adapt in a game when the players you have on the pitch are already playing out of position with specific instructions to make it work Imagine telling Wan bisaka to invert from left back to support build up when you’re hoping he can just give you a steady performance out of his natural position. Last season we saw Ten hag make subs and tactical adjustments that gave us the edge in so many games. When things are not good it’s easy to blame the manager and assume it’s all down to incompetence. But if anyone thinks we will ever have a manager who just shows up at a club this size in a league this competitive and pull results out of the sky with so much going against them, I advise they think again, harder even. Ten hag is still an exceptional manager and we need to shut out all the media noise and anger and support him. We get a bad result analyse it, be angry and keep supporting the manager like we supported SAF. Ten hag In!

The issue is he has kept us with the worst pressing structure and rest defense in the entire league and when even a championship sode csn exploit that he has to go. We cant just blame the players who ofc are mediocre and about 70% of the swuad needs replacement but he has not fixed the same tactical issues we have had all season, we are arguably the worst side in the prem in defensive transitions, we have a abysmal pressing structure that even championship sides like coventry can exploit, we have a non existant rest defense and no proper build up structure which results in us losing the ball for the first 5 mins until onana goes long. We play a deep line while pressong high which u just cannot do, either y commit to a high line with suboptimal personell or u fuckin leave it with the press, every decent vall carrier takes the ball from one box to the other unchallenged, these are all issues he didnt fix in the entire season and while our mediocre squad surely doesnt help it they dont create these problems. For example, casemiro has been awful on the ball so why do u keep playing him, either u change the structure/ his position so that he plays towards his strengh like for example playing him as cb so the play is in front of him, he looked far better there, or, u swap hom for someone who can do that job Ten hag plays the same players who keep being abysmal and unable to fullfill there role so why should we give him a pass, why are we tryna press with rashford in the side, why are we tryna play out from the back eith casemiro maguire playing, either change the personel or if u dont have anyone better change the structure to suit ur players. U cant tell me amrabat would hVe been worse than casemiro this season, so why does he literally never play and casemiro starts every game being the worst player on the pitch. I have eth the benefit of the doubt till february but even when we had that small winstreak the same issues remained, we couls have easily lost each of these games even west ham were we won 3:0 but they kept blundering every chance.

All season we use the excuse that teams score "lucky goals" and we are just so misfortunate but its just so delusional to think that with the amount of chabces we concede, if we had a better structure we wouldnt concede so many chances leading to us not having to put in last ditch blocks leading to less deflections. The tactics rely on players who are workhorses, who are able to run nonstop for 90 minutes and are able to make decisions during then. High press, with a high line while keeping emphasis on possession are his philosophies but the squad was built focussed on low block counterattack. Two radically different ways of playing. Rangnick said as much when he first came on board.

RASHFORD IS PROBABLY THE BEST COUNTER ATTACKING WINGER IN THE WORLD BUT NOT THE BEST ALL ROUND OR POSSESSION BASED WINGER THAT UNITED WANT TO PLAY CURRENTLY FOR SURE!!!! BRUNO AND ERIKSEN MAKE THOSE MAGICAL PASSES THAT BREAKS THE WHOLE LINE OR WHOLE SQUAD OF PLAYERS AND GETS THE BALL IN THE OPPOSITIONS BOX VERY QUICKLY WITHOUT THE NEED OF THE PASSING THROUGH THE BACK PHILOSOPHY BUT BRUNO CANNOT KEEP THE BALL AND PROGRESS IT FORWARD LIKE A FRENKIE DE JONG ONE.... MAGUIRE IS AN ATTACKING CENTRE BACK RATHER THAN A STRONG AND FAST CENTRE BACK WHO WILL MAKE THOSE PASSES.... SCOTT IS THE FALSE 9 OR 10 YOU SHOULD USE AND NOT THE MIDFIELDER WHO WILL PASS AND KEEP THE BALL PROPERLY.... VERY FEW PLAYERS ACTUALLY SUIT WHAT AN ATTACKING MANAGER WOULD WANT TO PLAY AT UNITED CURRENTLY!!!! BUT INEOS ARE ACTUALLY DOING THE MOST CORRECT THINGS SINCE THEY ARRIVED ACTUALLY BECAUSE THEY ARE FIRST GOING TO DECIDE THE WAY UNITED WILL PLAY GOING FORWARD AND NOT A MIXTURE OF EVERYTHING PROBABLY.... AFTER THAT WE CAN GET/REMOVE THE PLAYERS FOR THE TASK NEEDED TO DO!!!! Eg. A Winger who will play POSSESSION BASED AND CROSS IT INTO A PLAYER HE KNOWS WILL BE THERE WHEN HE PASSES THE BALL THERE... Yeah, I agree with you. There are only a handful of players who are good enough both physically and quality-wise. Whichever person is managing us, that has to change. But as you say though, EtH tactics require physical 1v1 duel winning monsters in all positions who are also technically proficient and intelligent. Basically he wants a Declan Rice or Van Dijk in every single position, and if you have that, I don't think you'd be required to play this crazy footy cos you'd have the best team in the world. Its not all EtH's fault, however he is consistently setting us up to fail with his choices and THAT is on him.

Damn, I listened carefully to your points. Funny, I came into this video being "just Eric Ten Hag in." But after listening to you, I came to "Just ETH out." I think your point about him not being able to adjust tactically mid game is important. Also, for the first time, I could see what you were saying about the players will begin to doubt his ability. Once that happens I think the team is rotten. I used to play midfield and one can only run so much and if you sense "others" are not meeting your output then you start to collapse. So, here is what I think now. If Ineos can find a coach that is available and who has proven tactical nous and a modicum of personality and not too old...they should go for it. But if this person is not available they should stick with ETH. Otherwise, thank you for your opinion. That was a good video and quite interesting. I learned a lot.

Manchester United currently has the problem that self-confidence is lacking. The team is currently crumbling with every goal against them, as the result has been turned around in the last second several times now. This is not due to the trainer, but rather to the mental strength of the team. In my opinion, Ten Hag is the best coaching option, we urgently need a good transfer summer. 2 CBs, 1 LB, and 1 CDM. The gap between midfield and back four is due to the lack of trust in the speed of the CBs. The current players are obviously not suited to play the ETH system. Thank you for a truly honest opinion on it all. Especially pointing out how he’s brought youth through as that doesn’t seem to get mentioned by the likes of Luckhurst. I’ve personally been strong for Ten Hag in for a while, but that string of matches of Chelsea, Pool, Brentford, and Bournemouth really put me in the category of accepting that he may well get sacked…….if Nagelsmann would be the actual option (right now). For me, what keeps me as Ten Hag in for one more season is that keeping him will most likely lead towards the clear out we’ve badly needed. Even if it doesn’t work out, we will hopefully then have quicker, ball playing players to build from for what will hopefully be a progressive manager. I mostly don’t want to see Southgate or Potter happen as all I can see is a flashback to the Ole era. I don’t like the options this summer and making a hasty decision will only lead to more bad decisions like we’ve had for the last decade.

I don't agree with several points but I appreciate the way this is put together and the tone, which is not the usual social media psychotherapy stuff. I don't agree on the defence issue - if you watch him in game, he is directing players to do things but they are struggling. The players have tried, I believe, but Dalot and Kambwala aside, of the available players it is an ask that is beyond them for various reasons. However, the fact is that on goals conceded the defence is 5/6th in the EPL and that has to be the ultimate measure. The really damaging issue has been attack, where goals scored is amongst the worst. I also note that in a previous episode you noted that every coach that has removed the support of a mid-low block, compact midfield has failed because the players can't cope. Anyway, reasonable minds can differ and, ultimately, I do agree that the arguments for ETH out do not trump those for stay. I just have a lot more confidence in him and a lot more willingness to take pain for 1-2 seasons for longer term gain.

Good video AJ, I think you missed that his working with the squad who can’t play in dominant style what EtH want to play. About def. line: almost for all season he doesn’t have players who can be play with high line, it’s “ok” when you play with someone like Lisandro or Luke who’s aggressive and want to win ball higher on the pitch and other CB is not aggressive (but for good work for his system it’s needed), I think that’s why he have this stupid compromise with open midfield. Yes, he can adapt, but it’s second season, he’s need to implement his style of play into the squad, otherwise a lot of players who doesn’t fit for his system would like to stay in the team and demand better role for them, he already have the first season in this manner, that’s enough. And that happens not only in def. line, in every line, expecially LF in attack are death cause he’s usually use it to overload with combinations and all season MU doesn’t have proper LB for this, that’s cause a lot of problems to the attack, and all other problems and compromises(I think all MU this season are big compromise) make “his football” “not his football”, and it’s just doesn’t work, and EtH can be good in this. Quality of players another big theme, I think we have a lot of players in the squad who aren’t good enough to be even in first six team in EPL regular starters. How the drop the matches regularly even under other managers in every second season I think we all saw that. who I think you didn’t mention who improved under EtH: Maguire (not a meme), Lindelof(when RCB really good rotation player), Mctominay(basically + sometimes do a good turns and even sometimes play in combinations), Bruno(improved in position based football), Wan Bissaka(in attack on the RF), other in my opinion too but not too obvious like this players, and in some cases it’s not his fault (Sancho, Amrabat, Mount).

We only seem to play well when the opposition allows us to. As soon as they take the game to us we crumble. The Coventry game was the best example of this. I'm on the fence with ETH. I still believe we haven't seen the best of him, and he's better than what we've seen so far, and without a doubt, his Ajax period was proof of this. Even his last season there, he finished the Champs League group stage with a 100 percent record. What i dont understand is how and why he's struggling so much to translate his idea of football on the pitch here. It's beyond bad if we're being honest. My biggest worry, though, is that players like Kobbie, Garnacho, and Hoijlund will regress if the poor football is not addressed because these guys are meant to be the future of the club

maguire and mctominay have definitely improved. not sure if it's down to ten hag's man management or tactical changes which seem to make more room for a player like mctominay specifically. on the other hand, mainoo and garnacho have obviously been incredible but one could totally argue that their progress as players has simply been their natural development and would've come about with any manager willing to give them game time. ten hag comments about his role in creating monetary value in interviews (a value that ratcliffe doesn't seem to care about, and ten hag has made continuous positive comments about him), and i'm beginning to think that what he means by this is raising the transfer value of individual players. he has given a bunch of players who one wouldn't normally fit into his tactical philosophy moments which have seen them receive praise over the course of tactical and personnel changes (rashford, lindelof, martial, wan-bissaka). i think in his mind, he's been working towards a ffp-safe squad overhaul this summer now that many players have shown their strengths and gotten interest from other clubs (rashford and psg, wan-bissaka and inter, maguire and west ham), and the first season was meant to kind of show the public that if you stick with him through his rebuild, these kind of results and better will be the ones that we will be receiving. no doubt many of his tactics have been awful and a lot of his management has been pretty stupid, but its inarguable that the squad wasn't built by mourinho and ole with a high pressing, possession based style in mind. whenever we see more squad players flipped for any kind of decent value, we will start to see a different playstyle with less high-intensity sprints and therefore less injuries as a result! at least, that's what i hope lol

Should we risk pushing all forward with whats available? Should we look to pass like man city with are technical ability? Personally i think he knows he cant sit back but cant push all way up cant play through the lines so he trys to win it high an limit the shot quality the other end. I think the players ability an work ethic really hamper him. An iam not so sure all players are working as hard as they can maybe not consciously but they like the blame game!

The squad composition is in transition and so is the style of play, some players suited to high press, some to mid block, the tactics flow from this fact. I like how you touched on the Garnacho and Mainoo substitutions. People are extremely reactionary. I think if you're going to consider all factors, you should include how excellent his game management was last season. We had the highest goals scored by substitutions. He was able to make tactical switches easily in his games. But what's the difference this season? The countless injuries he's had to deal with. Look at players like AWB, McTominay, Evan, Maguire etc, these guys didn't even play last season because they weren't his first choice. Do you think they are capable of tactical flexibility like Martinez/Varane/Eriksen? Gotta let emotions move to the side and think logically about this.

I agree with most of the stuff, but I would debate some negatives. Tactics - you really cannot make a lot of tactical twitches with players having certain habits and instincts. Example, Arsenal transformed with Kai and Rice. We do not have those players that can change the style of our play. But he did good against Liverpool and similar games where he intentionally created chaos to help players maximize their potential. Injuries - I really doubt that his style or training intensity is the problem. For example - Regulion was returned from a loan because the medical team guaranteed that Shaw and Malacia would be fit in January. Casemiro was wrongly diagnosed twice and had to seek additional opinions outside of the club. So I really don't think it's the intensity. Playing style can be the cause, but some teams are much more aggressive and open (Lpool for example), so I would blame poor character scouting through the years among the other reasons.

My desire to have a hipster coach(eg eth, rdz, potter, julian, poch, etc) died a slow painful death a long time ago. I've accepted that at the heart of it. we're a legacy club & managers who are a bit pragmatic, tactially brilliant & plays a/c to the strengths of the squad suit us more. Hence , for a long time now I've wanted managers in that mould- Ancelotti( highly unlikely) Mourinho( never wanted him gone, want him to complete his story at utd but I know the outrage it'll cause& hence not suitable) Emery( my preferred choice) Tuchel( 2nd preference) S.inghazi( far fetched) D.Simeone( like his changed approach tactically) Valverde( don't think he is coaching anymore) One thing that pragmatic managers certainly bring with them is refusing to lower the standards & letting players rule the roost. I just want man utd to get back to winning ways, old trafford to be a fortress , lower teams to take us seriously & to not have hope that they can win against us. Just want to see our reputation restored. Anyways , in all seriousness we should let ineos decide

Secondly, in terms of tactics, EtH is stubborn and not adaptable. He failed to manage the injuries, is awful in tactics, can't tweak during games, and makes poor decisions. In my opinion, he was the same EtH at Ajax but with good structure and support, his weaknesses were not apparent. So, he is not good enough.

I backed him all season but at some point he has to take resppnsibility. Blaming injuries all season when u have major structural and tactical issues that have been unadressed all season is embarassing. We have a completely disfunctional press that even coventry were able to expose only worsened by adding a deep line to it which is just a setup for disaster - if u argue we dont have the players ask urself why do we still keep playing it then, either press high and commit to a highline or leave the press We have basically no rest defense because of that which makes us arguably the worst side at defensive transitions in the entire league supported by the fact that we concede 20 shots every game no matter who we play and dont come at me with "they are low % shots" because someone makes a last second block, thats not a sustainable way of playing if u wanna win anything as seen against coventry and the amount of bs deflections we keep conceding Offensively we have improved from the start of the season but still we creat basically no chances for our striker and we have barely any visible attacking patterns, most our goals come from unforced errors which again is a setup for disaster cause when the opppnent isnt gifting us the goals we barely score, take for example bournmouth, first goal they fail to clear the ball amd just leave bruno in acres inside the box and second goal they give away a stupid pen, we score 2 goals which easily could have been non while we could have concedes about 4 or 5 more Eth keeps playing abysmal performing players in rashfors and casemiro while amrabat and amad warm the bench, why is casemiro starting every game when he is 1. Put into system that exposes him 2. Not able to perform his role He has been awful on the ball and cant defend cause ppl jus trun by him, why is he still starting in that role, either play someone else or put him in a dif position (f.e cb) or change the structure, if u argur casemiro is just not good enough then why the fuck does he start every week, amrabat surely cant be worse, he is a much better passer and at least has the legs to run across the pitch, casemiro offers NOTHING except aerial threat and the occasional long ball in behind in our current system yet starts every game. I could go on and on but the fact is, while the llayers are surely the main issues and we need probably 70-80% of the swuad replaced, the overarching issues that ten hags disfunctional system brought cant be ignored yet somehow he trys to gaslight everyone there is progress and that we are playing well, either he is delusional or lying when he says that cause everyone else knows how bad we are.

ETH inherited a terrible foundation to build on but he did get a chance to bring in a couple of his own players, However League Cup aside it feels that results and performances under him are worse than OGS. Plus OGS did the treble over Pep. If tiring out players in training is part of a long term plan then unless he can convince SJR he will be out as he is failing to convince the fans. A good manager should galvanise and improve the players already there (look at Villa). Having two scorers against Cov that most fans want to see leave and a third from an underperforming captain. Also, the winning penalty was scored by a player who still does not seem to have the support of playing system and is fighting for scraps. Not good management.
