Always liked The Carpenters since I saw that cheesy 80s biopic The Karen Carpenter Story. It was one of those overly sentimental tv movies, but it had Cynthia Gibb in it which was a bonus. Soul Chance looks cool. Nice one, Richie.

During the 70’s the Carpenters were the opposite of what I was into. I saw a documentary about them that was very good. I was surprised that when they put a guitar solo in a song they got push back from friends that they were selling out. I always thought of the Carpenters as sell out music. I was wrong. They completely went against the grain as far as what was popular.

Richie, I grew up drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon and Narragansett lager which was brewed here in Rhode Island. Wow, I always thought that Eddie Cochran was born in England. I remember you mentioning your ''connections'' to Haggard, Owens and Carpenter, three of my favorites. In the 1970's Richard re-mixed some of the songs that appear on the Singles album that you showed. Years later he regretted tampering with the originals.

Thanks so much for the response V R Some great stuff out of Bakersfield I don’t listen to a lot of country but I do listen to some from those two gentleman. Dig the cover for the Bakersfield Boogie Boys. I wouldn’t have thought Devi looking at that cover. Listened to Korn but not a lot. Gotta love Pink band names. Karen was a fantastic drummer! And I to was not into The Carpenters but certainly appreciate their talent. Turns out I am a fan of bands from Downy (sp) as I have that Blasters record as well. And I’ve heard of this Metallica you speak of :-) Again thanks for the shoutout, and thanks for the response good stuff I do appreciate it. I hope more will jump on and take pride In the music from where they are from.

You're fortunate to live in a part of California that promotes country music. I had no idea that Korn came from that city. I couldn't stand nu-metal in the 90's but nowadays I'll snoop around some Korn material. The Blasters are great! I'm thinking about doing a Merle show soon. Eventhough I'm not totally convinced, "Mama Tried" is such a good song. Take care my good fella!

I mean I always knew who he was as my Grampa loved Hee Haw so there’s that but I’ve actually picked up more Buck records since you being a fan! Carpenters were huge radio staples when I was a kid growing up. I think I may have one of their albums but I couldn’t say which one LoL! Must’ve been great living in the LA area in your youth! I grew up in Iowa so I was always yearning to be somewhere like California! Cool stuff Rich! Eddie Cochran is awesome btw! Peace ✨✌️👽✨

Nice local history lesson/memories Pat, I thought all Country music came from the Nashville area. I never bothered with Korn. Do you realise that you are morphing into Morrissey? You just need a shorter haircut on the sides and back then you can rip off your shirt and whip the microphone lead around on camera. Sonic Youth did a great Carpenters cover of Superstar, love that song. Cheers, Paul

The music out of Bakersfield was called Nashville West. Buck Owens had more top 20 hits than any other Country artist in the 60’s. The Bakersfield sound was more upbeat, primarily used electric instruments and not as polished. It was a major influence on Outlaw Country. I can see the Morrissey thing.

The Bakersfield sound used electric instruments and a backbeat opposed to the strings and slick produced sound coming out of Nashville. The Bakersfield sound is what led to Country Rock and Outlaw Country. I meant to pull out an album from 63 that has Clarence White playing sitar.
