Ive listened to this song hundreds of times, Foo Fighters are amazing. Watching this not only goes to show how hard the drum play works but how difficult it is to play. You make it look easy...you have so much talent. Amazing.

Hey guys, on this last day of November, it's TGIF with a twist - Thank Grohl It's Fooday! Because it is... :D THE SONG - "My Hero" was written by Foo Fighter band members Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel and Pat Smear. It was originally recorded in November 1996 at Bear Creek Studios in Woodinville, Washington along with most of the other songs for the band's second album (and the first that actually featured band members other than Grohl) 'The Colour and the Shape' and featured William Goldsmith on drums. Grohl disliked the results and he, Mendel, and Smear got together in February 1997, minus Goldsmith, at Grandmaster Recorders in Hollywood and re-recorded most of the album with Grohl on drums. This insulted Goldsmith and he left the band. He has some limited drumming credits on the album but not on "My Hero". 'The Colour and the Shape' was released on May 20, 1997. It peaked at #10 on June 7.1997 and spent 74 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart. "My Hero" was the third single from the album and was released on Jan 19, 1998. It peaked at #6 on Mar 14.1998 on Billboard's Alternative Songs chart. It was last seen at #36 on July 11, 1998 having spent 26 weeks on that chart. There are hardcore Nirvana / Foo Fighters fans who feel that most every Dave Grohl song is about, or a tribute to, his deceased friend Kurt Cobain. Grohl however has stated that he didn't have big rock or sports heroes when he was young so this song is dedicated to ordinary, everyday heroes. He said that he has "little use for hero-worship when it comes to celebrities - especially rock stars." THE DRUMMER - Dave Grohl was born in Warren, Ohio, and raised in Alexandria, Virginia. When he was 12 he started to learn to play guitar. In high school, he played guitar in some bands but gravitated toward drums. In 1992 he told 'Modern Drummer' “I never studied drums,” he said, “and I don’t read. I actually play guitar better than I play drums. I just got more into the drums because I happened to be a better player than the drummers they had in the bands I was in.” Eighteen years later, he told 'Modern Drummer' "I am a Zeppelinologist. I grew up worshiping that band like they were my church. I learned a lot about groove and drumming and feel from those albums. When I listened to those records I didn't want to know exactly how Bonham did what he did-I wanted to know why he did what he did." "Consistency is very important to me. Perfect time, perfect tempo, locked-in perfection doesn't turn me on. But consistency does. I am not a technical musician. I'm a big dummy when it comes to anything technical or rudimental. So to me it's all about the feel. That's really hard to describe." This is Sina's first Foo Fighters cover but her second encounter with Dave Grohl's very physical style - nearly five years ago she covered Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit". "My Hero" delivers a major kick drum challenge. Most of the song consists of 16th note patterns 4-3-3-3 and 4-3-3-1-1, for example, that have to be pulled off consistently and with perfect timing. Rosanna asked Sina about her experience. RO: When you study a song do you write out a chart or "tab" or work from memory? SINA: Sometimes I write something down, but not very often. This time I worked from memory. RO: You nailed the kick drum part but you put a lot more "leg" into it than some drummers. Was it tiring? SINA: Of course it was a good workout, but lots of fun! RO: This is your first Foo Fighters cover. Was it a fan request or something you've been wanting to do? SINA: It was Milena's idea. She said 'do "My Hero", sounds like fun'. RO: So she's a Foo Fighters fan! SINA: Yes! Rosanna discussed this with Mike and he explained - "If you listen to the Original recording, the drum sound is very compressed, at maximal loudness, with a lot of reverb. It was launched in the middle of the music industry Loudness war in the 90s. Everything was maximized for loudness, there was no space for dynamics. If you look at the WAVE form, it's basically a solid rectangle box without any peaks. "Our approach for this cover was to bring it all back a little and cool things down. I tried to bring out a more natural sounds of the toms. Of course I had to push the drums too, otherwise they would sound too weak compared to the original, but I tried to leave some more space for dynamics and the natural tone of the kit. "So to sum it up, our drum sound for this Cover is a little hotter and certainly more compressed than the typical 70s drum sound, but still a lot more natural than the late 90s over-compressed sound." The "Loudness War" had its origin in the vinyl record days but really came to a head with the introduction of digital recording and introduction of the CD format. Wow, I've been watching your videos for some time now. You keep stepping up your game. "My Hero" is no easy song. And you nailed it. The thing that sets you apart from others? Is you are so technically sound. But, you have that feel/groove. And those 2 things together make for something special. Not many have it. But, you do!!!!!!
