@@fredegarbolger That's totally wrong. Geld-Zurück-Garantie is the correct way if you don't want to write Geldzurückgarantie.
I love how Laura mouthed the correct pronunciation of "buhl" at the 4:29 mark. Excited for her to get to visit the States.
in germany we have two times a year the opportunity of an "verkaufsoffenen Sonntag". one before winter and one before summer to give the people of the land to go to towns and buy stuff they need for upcoming time. this is a left over from a long time ago and was called "Mantelsonntag" before, because the land people had the chance to buy coats for the winter.
Such a positive vibe about you two. Or as my mum would say "such a lovely couple".
Take her to Powells and Costco. And Taco Time and Chipotle. Take her to Mt St Helens. And then Seattle to ride a ferry on a clear day for Mt Rainier views, or go up the Space Needle. Watch a Seahawks home game? Go to the Pacific coast and enjoy the white noise of a real ocean. Rockaway Beach, grilling oysters on your hotel balcony, or just enjoying local fresh seafood on the Oregon coast. And definitely take her to Council Crest Park in Portland, where you stand on a viewpoint platform and see 5 mountains in the Cascade range all around you, and you can whisper and someone can hear you 20 meters away (magic!).
I don't know what it's like in Oregon but prepare Laura for showing ID if she wants alcohol. I was in New York and Boston with my dad who's in his sixties (I'm thirty three) and in both places we bought wine from a shop and they asked for my AND my dad's ID. In Boston my dad was buying it and I was just standing next to him. He showed his passport but then they asked for mine too as I was clearly with him but I didn't have mine on me. So we couldn't have the wine. I'm a grown up. I have a beard. I have two children. I don't look like a teenager. Still had a great time though.

I totally relate. Although I don't drink, a 5K race in Arlington, Virginia, offered free beer when you showed your race bib after the run. A friend wanted another beer so I walked over and - at age 65 or so - was asked for my ID. I laughingly pointed to my face but quickly took out my ID. I met a couple on the Metro afterward and he - in his mid 50s - had the same experience. I'm not sure why they have tightened the rules unless it's so they treat everyone the same without having the problem of not challenging someone who's 19 who looks 21 and challenging someone who's 25 who looks 19. Whatever. It is indeed strange that the USA has such a problem.
@yomintyfresh
Жыл бұрын
The problem is that there are 19-year-olds who insist they're 21 - "What do you mean, I don't look 21? I don't think that guy over there looks 21 either, and you didn't ID him." If you check everyone's ID, that whole interaction is taken out of the equation. About 20 years ago, I worked for a supermarket chain in the southeast in an area with mandatory ID checks for everyone. As cashiers, we were required to enter a date of birth into the register before we could scan any additional items. If we were caught trying to override the date of birth ourselves or making up a birth date, then we were automatically fired. We also had regular, anonymous checks from police officers and employees from other branches of the same supermarket chain. If they witnessed us trying to override the date of birth or making up a birth date, then we were subject to fines from the city. Stores and restaurants caught violating the law twice lost their liquor licenses.

I guess it was just a so called "verkaufsoffener Sonntag" ( I try to translate it to English: Sunday of open stores/sales) which takes place at some days during the year usually when special markets or official festivities of the city or special dates like Saint Martin with light shows, lanterns and little market or Saint Nikolaus during Christmas time are celebrated :)
You have to visit Nördlingen. Little further than Dinkelsbühl, but a lot more history. A meteroit crashing, Neil Armstrong training for his walk on the moon in Nördlingen and a whole walk around on the city wall. Nördlingen is even in the Lonley Planet 😅 but everyone goes to Dinkelsbühl 😅

Hi Nalf - I'm a German living near Hillsboro (Oregon). When my family member come to visit, one of the highlights for them is the Powell bookstore in Portland. They also like the Saturday Market, but that has gone downhill in the last couple of years. A ride out to central Oregon, to see some desert, native shops, etc, was also a big hit. Regardless, your lady will have a good time, there is a lot to do here that us "locals" take for granted. Cheers, Peter

I guess this will be an entire new Christmas experience for Laura this year. But also what is nearly similar....songs, food, games etc. .... well I guess this video will be the nicest Nalf-Christmas-present for us subscribers. 😃!! 🎁 Oh, what will there be inside ???👀

I'm looking forward to the follow up video showing the differences. Take her for a quaint Sunday stroll through downtown Portland (similar to your walks in SH). Also, the food in Germany is so fresh and unprocessed. As an American living in Germany even our children noticed and commented on the difference in flavor of the fruits, vegetables, bread, cereal and candy (the candy isn't loaded with food coloring). The overall quality of the food is much higher in Germany in our experience. The German people are lovely and welcoming, the country is wonderful and rich with history and culture. The quaint / cozy part of Germany (and Europe) with the ability to easily access a wide range of activities and entertainment is also something we really enjoy here. It's so nice that you are able to capture it in such an entertaining way. Keep up the great work Nick!

when my parents, my sister, and my grandmother came to visit me in Georgia i made a special effort to make sure they never had to eat McDonalds, or any other "typical" american fast food. They got to eat at Waffle house for the waffle and pancakes, hash browns smothered and covered, experience. Cracker Barrel for the southern dishes, american diners, etc. they literally did not have a burger one, which totally surprised them. cobbler, turnips, collard greens, fried okra, pulled pork sandwiches, you name it. So my vote is for real american food, corn on the cob, chicken fried steak, some decent mexican food, too. American Pizza as a contrast to what is typical for Germany. Obviously an american flag shaped and colored cake, and so on.

Thanks for your videos NALF, I really like them a lot, although I am german. I think your videos shows some things we don't appreciate enough or forgot about it. For example the walks you do a lot of people in Germany rediscovered in the corona time. In german language we have several words for going on a walk with different focus. "Spaziergang" (take a break, get out for other impressions, nature), "Streifzug" (with a target to discover a specific area), "Schaufensterbummel" (shopping), Wanderung (nature, more sport focus). And of course there are bad things we always do and never thought about them, too.
the outro track goes so hard. Everytime a video of yours ends and it starts playing its just a vibe. brilliant
Take Laura to Crater Lake, since she is into nature. If you're not limited to Oregon, Yosemite would even be better, although the waterfalls in the winter are not as beautiful as in spring. A trip to southwest Oregon beaches, like Bandon, would also great. You two make a great couple.
I am following your channel for quite some time now and we both share the common interest in 20th century conflicts. As a second profession I am german co-ceo and guide for British battlefield tours company (Zeitgeisttours) that runs guided, adventurers trips to the western front in France and Belgium for British schools. The California coast north of San Francisco is awesome (up to Bodega Bay - you know, the town of Hitchcock‘s ‚The Birds‘), and on US1 in San Simeon the motel Sand‘s by the Sea, get a room overlooking the Pacific Ocean, beautiful spot and the rooms are gorgeous. We had the one just by the hot tub and after a day on the road it was just perfect and romantic. So much fun watching the sea lions sunbathing and the scenery, simply beautiful. And in L.A. staying at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach with the Marina right in front with cafes and restaurants, visiting Hollywood, Venice Beach, Malibu, the Getty Villa in Santa Monica and whatever else you’d like to explore. I've spent years and years on North America's East Coast (Nova Scotia, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland) and West Coast (British Columbia, California, Mexico), and so one of the *big deal differences* with Germany is seafood. Germany sort of has seafood, like pickled herring and tiny little shrimps. But in Oregon you can get crab, salmon, oysters, scallops, and other delicacies prepared dozens of ways. A buffet like that would be something Laura would enjoy and remember forever.

But in our town, they switched to order in app only then pick up and needless to say..the quality of food has gone down with them not making it right in front of you. We’ve ordered only a couple times since and each time, our food was carelessly thrown together 😕 hopefully that is not the case at every location. Oh yea..while you’re at the grocery store, show Laura the bologna with cheese already in it! It will likely blow her mind, it did mine. Too bad that stuff is not very tasty! Or the PB with jelly swirled into it, same thing 🤯 I’m still not sure if I should call it efficient or lazy.
