I was raised by my grandfather. We would watch all the chaos going on in the 70's on our rural little farm. He would tell me many rules a good man should live by. One of those rules was to never use the color of my skin as an excuse for personal weaknesses. And another was to respect all people until they give you reason not to. Rules I still live by.

My ex from Congo watched this and didn’t get overly emotional, I told her about the current slave trade between Saudi states and Africa which is larger than any slave trade in history and she wasn’t so emotional, but she went all in on BLM, and that was so sad to see because she kept using her skin to excuse her simply not working or building something for herself, and she became basically impossible to date, and there will be hundreds of thousands of young women and men like her today

She was supported to lie by authorities. Later this was used against her when she became very critical of islam and made a short movie by Theo van Gogh about the submissive role women have in islam. The movie was called Submission. Shortly after this movie Theo van Gogh was assasinated by a muslim in Amsterdam. Ayaan, by then a Dutch member of parliament was demonised and bullied out of parliament. Her original lies to enter the country were used against her. I am ashamed for my country about that. What he went through and what his spirit overcame and refused to give up and take…the longing to be the master of his own fate…it’s what anyone of us would want. So inspiring and uplifting. What exactly is "faith" directed at in this statement? Faith in what? Usually it's directed at the existence of the Christian God, which then in turn, purports fear. In Christianity, it's essential for fear and faith to exist in the same place. Although I am not Christian, I still don't understand this statement, nor do I understand why people are moved by it. Fear, is a natural response when facing mortal adversity. If you think that you can invest enough faith into anything and become impervious to fear, you're either wrong, or you're a sociopath. Or perhaps a bit unhinged due to relentless fanaticism. If, by chance, the statement implies that faith is in one's self, I can stomach it, but I don't see any significant power in it.

The first slave owner in the future US was an African indentured servant from 1619. He brought people over from Africa under an indentured servitude contract and successfully argued that one of them was bound to him for life. This is allowed through English Common Law under a debtor's contract and still exists today in places like India. It even expands to multi-generational contracts. In the US these types of contracts were abolished long before the civil war. Nearly all debts are abolished during bankruptcy with the exception of Student Loans and those will probably be challenged in the coming years.

Most people just go along without questioning the narrative because it's the easy and popular thing to do. Questioning requires examination and thinking, which he has done. There's a book called "Barracoon: The Story of the Last Black Cargo" that you should read, if you haven't already. It's a biography of the last living slave (known at the time) in the US to make the journey across the Atlantic, Cudjoe Lewis. The author interviewed him in 1927, but the book wasn't published until 2018 (58 years after the author died). He gave her his account of his village being raided by a neighboring tribe when he was a teen, the men slaughtered and dismembered, the women and children sold as slaves. This kind of brutality served 2 purposes. It eliminated nearby enemies/competitors, and it filled the conqueror's pockets. It's also not unique. Most of human history worldwide has been a cycle of violence and subjugation.

Regrettably this and most facts about universal human cruelty throughout history has been funneled into the demonization of one race and taken to the extremes in current social agendas. It is human nature to knock the powerful from their perches, not for the good of all, but to install ourselves in their place. The problem with this is that throughout history most new rulers are just as bad or worse than the deposed.

This is why we need proper history to be taught in our schools and in our country so we can learn the truth, about history good or bad ,so we can reflect on it and learn from it, as to not let the bad history repeat itself and take the good history to improve our future as a nation and as civilized human beings

I agree with you. There are child slaves in the Central African Republic today and I would like money to be used to help stop that rather than reparations to people who, by comparison, are hugely privileged. Reading Dexter Dias' "10 Types of Human" really opened my eyes to the current situation in CAR.

@@justmehello5543 If anything, that's just a government reimbursement, not a reparation. The slaveowner spent his own money on a practice that was supported and fueled by the State, so when the State did away with the practice it took on the financial burden of giving the people who spent their money participating in it by giving it back to them. Countries are rich, but hardly ever _that_ rich, and to some perspectives that might be seen as "rewarding the wrong guy" but to me I see that as the State accepting responsibility for it's own role and taking the consequences upon itself.

Oh Van you crack me up! You learned the secret to life early. Make a person smile and you have a friend for life. You can't hate with a smile on your face, unless you are demented, I guess. 😄 Makes me remember what a elementary Principal told me about my oldest with learning disabilities...don't worry about Mike, he has the biggest smile, he will always pass his classes. He was right. Mike is now 54 and that smile still serves him well.
