    It’s a movie. It’s a story. It’s a sad one about someone becoming a monster and showing how multiple things lead him to being that monster he would eventually become. Your not suppose to pity Jeffery Dahmer, but feel for the situation itself. The message from this film is to being there for the broken rather than leaving them to descend further into the darkness.

    It does make me sad because he fell through the cracks. He was displaying very odd behaviors. It reminds me of my brother Richie. Richie is schizophrenic and he wanted help. He even called the police on himself and explained that he was schizophrenic and having murderous thoughts. But, the police took him to a homeless shelter instead of a mental hospital. He walked to his grandpa's after that and murdered him and a homeless man. So, I feel sorry for him because I understand what he went through.

    Some are saying that this is a lackluster ending, or that the killing of Hicks should've been shown. I disagree. For what the film is trying to accomplish, I think the ending does everything it needs to. Up to this point, the film was very well structured and paced in establishing Dahmer's life, his newfound friendship with Derf, his final year of high school, and how every connection in his life began to fall apart. In this final scene, we see that Jeff is totally alone. His parents and brother are gone, he's done with school, and Derf is going off to college. That, along with the added dramatization of Jeff seemingly wanting to kill Derf in their final scene together (which didn't happen in reality, but serves an important role in the storytelling), makes perfectly clear what Jeff intends to do with Hicks here. From a storytelling point of view, introducing a new character in the last 10 minutes and having their death be the climax would be a poor choice, and that is why the dramatized scene with Derf is important in making clear that Jeff, after everything he's been through, has finally lost it. The movie overall does a fine job of believably getting us to that tragic point of no return, the whole point of the film being to illustrate the murderous turn of an in-need, mentally ill kid.

    VNGill you hit the nail on the head my friend , spot on! But that scene at the end with Derf, it didn’t happen in real life ? I thought it did cos the film it’s self is based off the book which the real Derf wrote

  • @VNGill

    @VNGill

    6 жыл бұрын

    RE: Alom Hussain - From what I understand, the scene is in the book, but it’s one of the other fan club members who picks up Jeff, and he doesn’t go into the house. Like I said, they changed it for dramatic reasons that I think benefited the story. I read a blogpost from the real Derf where he talked about reading the script for the first time and finding it funny that they had changed him into the leader/instigator of the fan club, when really it was another one of the boys. Again, it flows better for story purposes to have Derf be the main guy in all these events.

  • @skinssxe

    @skinssxe

    Exactly! Changing some things does not necessarily change the reality, but it is a way to allow the public to understand more easily the situation, the feeling of loneliness that Dahmer felt, to understand the feelings of his failures, etc. And so, to be able to put oneself in one's place and understand how an individual can drift into society.

    The fact that Steven Hicks was his first victim wasn't even known for years till Jeffrey himself confessed killing him after he was arrested is even sadder. Imagine Jeffrey didn't out this incident, Hicks would've been forgotten forever. For those who haven't seen the full movie probably won't understand. But the way he speaks to Stephen here in comparison to the rest of the film is really creepy when you think about it. In an interview after his incarceration Jeffrey said how the first killing wasn't planned but he had always had fantasies and desires of picking up a hitch hiker and having full control over them. So at this moment he probably thought this was his chance to do so, he talks so much more clearly and with excitement. It shows that he perks up and becomes more outgoing when he's planning to or at least thinking about murdering someone.

Also, imagine being the guy that was his *first* guess... you went to school with Jeffrey Dahmer and yet someone guessed that *you* were a serial killer before they guessed him. This movie shows that parents really need to watch their actions. And Friends need to show real care. He had all the potential to be a great human but then became a monster because of others not taking him for granted. Ross Lynch did such a great job!!!

    This movie really surprised me!! When I heard that this kid used to be a Disney star I was like... ugh.🙄 but I truly love this film! I’ve watched it like 5 times already. This Ross Lynch deserves better acting roles in the futures!

    This was the turning point in Jeffery's life he had no family support and everyone thought he was strange, really really strange and his parents abandoned him and he was left all alone in that house. Jeffery Dahmer was crazy, off his rocker and I blame his parents for this and they could have helped him but they didn't he basically picked up this guy Steven and Steven was never heard from again. At that time Jeffery Dahmer became a serial killer and a murder. He was convicted of so many murderers and I feel bad for the Victims and they lost someone they cared about. Jeffery Dahmer died in 1994! I often wondered if Jeffery's strange behavior he brought on himself or was he just crazy! This is why you should be friends with the weird kid in school. His parents never saved him. He had demons and they all came out in the open. What a waste of life so sad and pathetic. Ross Lynch did a great job playing him!

    Angel Simone Even though I agree in the aspect his parents werent good parents. Literally had a legal battle over who gets his ashes when he died. I for one think that it didnt matter who raised Dahmer. This was literally how things wour have end. Being a necrophiliac, murderer rapist didnt just happen because mom and dad wasnt there. He was a sociopath and had shown signs of this at a extremely young age.

    Gucci Kingsnake I agree with the other girl but to put it in depth. This dude was a pedophile. Some of his victims was as young as 14. He tried to make a zombie out of those bodies to maintain sexual.dominance even after death. He literally had so many corpses in his fridge alone which he would occasionally bite out of after the death. He would drill holes in the victim brain while alive and pour acid so it be the closeted thing being with a dead person while alive. The man was sick and depraved. I feel sorry for the shitty childhood but sometimes the he had a bad start is not good enough and here's a perfect example.

    Gucci Kingsnake Many of the inmates with him said otherwise. They interview his actual killer and they said Dahmer had bragged about killing young men. Most of which look like them because he targeted slim built black men for most of his murder spree. Theres a reason he had a rough murder he was being an asshole. I'm sorry but remorse? dont you think it's odd that Dahmer turn a whole new page literally right after he got caught. The only difference between before and then is that he had no way to hide and started pulling a Christian act to get better views by the public. He honestly should have gotten a chair. If anyone deserve the chair it was Dahmer but it didnt happen because all of his victims were drug addicts, gays and blacks. If his victim list was like Charles Manson then this would not have an ethics issue. Manson is perceived as villainous even though he didnt do the actual killings because they targeted rich white people. Not saying Manson was right but I just find it odd that with Dahmer he had a chance and with Manson hes this.embodiement of evil. It really in my opinion their victims that caused the change of view than the actual crime.

    Gucci Kingsnake The only reason legal insanity isnt on his file because you have to be damn near on the brink of being the joker to get that to avoid charges. they didnt want to give it to Dahmer because where he would go would be a spa compare to actual prison. Plus Dahmer like I said targeted teens or he would bring men over his house and get them drunk and then physically dominate them. He wasnt strong but manage to get his victims but intoxicating them. He couldn't do that in prison and mostly they give insanity really to people who are a risk to themselves or to the prisoners.

    Ross played his part perfectly, especially in this scene. His subtle smile seeing Steven (a guy he’s attracted to), and just everything about this scene makes a perfect ending. And while some call it “lacklustre” for not actually showing Dahmer committing the acts themselves, I disagree. My friend Dahmer is about Dahmer’s high school years, not his actual murder spree. It’s supposed to seem like a generic high school movie, so adding a killing scene at the end would ruin the immersion, plus, the text at the end of what happens next is great in my opinion. Overall, this is a really good ending imo.
