    The emotional changes in this scene with Arthur from nervous, to fear, to rage, to shock and then to determination of revenge and then back to fear and panic is astounding. JP is phenomenal.

    To be honest, what was he supposed to do? They were literally going to beat him to death. I think they deserved what they got. Plus if Arthur wasn't there, what would they have done to that girl? He was right to fight back. The acting is so phenomenal, I already saw this movie like 5 times since it came out and I can't get enough of it. The cinematography, the brilliant acting, the soundtracks, the dialogues, the deep meaning of the story,... It's THE perfect movie for me.

    I liked how he shot the first two out of genuine self-defense, but the 3rd was pure rage/vengeance. Shows the inherent conflict within the character, how he's a victim of his tragic circumstances but he went above and beyond that and chose to become a monster.

    The thing is though what if it is the mad dog, what if we are seeing it as jokers narrative. We saw in the movie he comes up with these wild fantasies that we the audience saw as real. The girl neighbor, murray telling him that he would want him as a son. In the end he tells that killing these guys was funny not in defending himself

    I feel the laughing is a nervous,coping mechanism. I get a sense that since being a child he was unable to express, constant bullying, a mentally ill mother who let her boyfriend abuse him as a kid,all those supressed emotions, unable to be truly understood , made him eventually rage, like a volcano spurting out lava. The only way he knew he could be seen and heard was through killing, he finally felt in control.

    What really ties Arthur's character into a bow for me is the pained breaths for air when he loses control of his laughter. It's what really hits home the fact that Arthur really is just in a constant state of complete agony, and that none of the laughter throughout the movie is real until right at the very end after he shoots Murray.

    I love this movie a lot, especially because my Dad loves it as much as I do. Although, he grew up as a gang member in 1980s Mexico so when he laughs, I don't know whether to be relaxed or freaked out.

    This story isn’t glorifying a villain, it’s explaining how good people become the villain. What other people see is the monster, this movie let’s people see the person behind the monster.

    Arthur isn't a normal person though. He had childhood trauma and most of his experiences are probably unreliably narrated, such as his close female neighbor never even existing. The story is told from the Joker's perspective expertly to the point you can't distinguish what is real. I've only seen a few media marvelously executing the "perspective from a mentally ill person" method and this great movie is one of those.

You can't chase someone down and murder them even if they were hurting with you. My comment was merely a parody of the moment. I don't actually feel bad for the guy, even though he was technically murdered. I believe in the law, I believe in self defense. I believe in a proper interpretation that sees justice done for ALL involved. Plainly stated: When shit hits the fan, it doesn't care who flung it. Everyone in the room is getting some.
