My First Year EV Savings
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
High gas prices have people considering electric vehicles as an inflation hedge. How much did I save driving my 2020 Chevy Bolt EV for the past year? Did it beat my old Subaru WRX and how would it compare against a new Honda Civic? Hint, it was worth it - for me.

I swear this is the best channel for EV. People never ask this quentions, they only buy and never think about ev battery life
By buying a brand new Bolt Premier back in 2019, I rewarded myself for having quit smoking (finally). So, the Bolt came as a joy just for that reason. But, there 's more! Just because I quit smoking, my monthly payments for the Bolt were even less than what I used to spend on cigarettes - so financially, my family benefitted even after I put a brand new car in my garage. Add to that serious savings in my life insurance rate that dropped one year after quitting. Because I charge my Bolt at home 99% of the time, my monthly electricity bill increased by about $35. And... that was it, no other expenses worth mentioning! An EV is a very low-maintenance vehicle that really cares about your wallet. You don't have to worry about oil, filters, sparks, radiator, belts, transmission fluid, exhaust system and other regular gas car paraphernalia - an EV has none of that. And, that Mona Lisa smile on my face when I fly by gas stations, auto parts stores and repair shops... And, that feeling of a jet fighter pilot when accelerating from 0 to 60 in 6.5 seconds... And, that sweet sensation of cleanliness and freedom... :)
Great video, Josh! I’m in Canada and find my savings here are huge as well. Plus the convenience of getting to (mostly) charge at home versus stop at gas stations (and look for the best price before stopping). I’m about to get solar panels on my roof too which will make it even cheaper, not considering the cost of the panels.
Josh I have a question, I wanted to know if you could talk about this in the future. As we all know, EV's have fewer components than internal combustion cars and they use that as marketing, but nobody talks about the cost of those spare parts in EV's, because even if it has approximately 300 pieces and the combustion ones 2000 if those 300 cost 5 or 10 times more expensive ends up being worse

Really well done program, Josh. Easy to understand and an honest comparison of 3 vehicles. For those Elvis fans who are afraid of change, ICE cars will be around for the foreseeable future. The switch to alternative fueled vehicles will require Big Oil to be a part of that change. For those that embrace and accept change, future transportation is going to be a fun ride!
Great video!
Inflation fighter is one year old 2015 Prius. Depreciation done, reliability and mileage.
My 10 years of EV only driving has been the cheapest in my 40 years of driving. 4x cheaper than gas

How much was battery to replace? Or did you toss the battery
Went would someone buy new wheels and tires on a new car? That makes no sense.
Really good video! Logical and easy. I have the same experience as you. And i expect that in the future, new ICE vehicles will have greater depreceation than EV, when finally people understand a battery change is not necessary and EVs can run double the amount of distance before the vehicle is useless

Thanks for the comment! Judging by most comments here, the battery seems to be the big hang-up, which I can understand-a bit. That being said, making my battery degradation video 2 years ago convinced me it wasn’t that big of an issue.
Comparing a 20 year old car with a brand new EV? As many said, check the cost of a battery replacement, or two, in 20 years. As for the new civic vs Bolt, it’s still unsure how the bolt battery will last in the long run. Judging from my electric lawn mower with lithium batteries, it doesn’t look good for the Bolt
Josh......I have been driving a used Bolt EV for almost 3 years now. Why don't people factor in the cost of the vehicle when they are figuring costs for driving ? You have to figure in all costs to be honest. When you don't factor in the cost of the vehicle you are only fooling yourself. All these EV Drivers who say driving electric is cheaper than a gasoline or diesel vehicle are fooling themselves. When you figure in the cost of the vehicle it changes everything. They are not honest about all the real costs.
Wait until you replace the battery in 10 years. I predict the battery won’t be available in 10 years. You will be screwed with your EV.

Based on what data? For 10 year old cars with old batteries that were old tech?

I was concerned about battery longevity too before I bought an EV, but my first EV is now 13 years old. The battery has lost about 12% of its capacity. That's not bad at all in my opinion.
EVs are stupid. No amount of charging infrastructure will make this garbage practical.

We’ve only driven EV since 2013. Nearly 10 years. Cheapest transportation I’ve vet owned. Reliable and 1/4 the cost of gas

I spend $150 dollars a week on gas in Canada going from home to work. Its getting pretty expensive.I would rather put that money into something that I would eventually own than give it away to wealthy fuel companies.
Great video !
