my first week of work as a UI/UX designer at a startup!

hi! this past week i started my first week at work! for some background info, this year i did a career switch and pursued UX. in early october i graduated from general assembly's UX design immersive program and now i just started my first full time job as a UI/UX designer at a startup.
i thought it would be nice to share what it's like onboarding at a startup and being the only designer on the team. i also share a little bit of my life outside work because i think it's important to have good work life balance. i hope you enjoy, and look forward to more videos about work and the job searching process. happy thanksgiving if you celebrate 🦃
*i realized i mixed up a couple clips, sorry about that haha
see you soon,
jane

    I love your channel. I recently just dropped out of grad school for psychology and have an interview with GA for their UX Design BootCamp tomorrow! Nervous but excited especially for post bootcamp because I really hope to get a job that I enjoy and pays well. Your videos inspire me!!

    Hi! Wait that's so cool! I also studied psychology but for undergrad. I understand how scary it is when you first start something new, but you'll learn so much by the end of it. I also hope that you're successful in learning UX design and finding a job that suits you. I'm so happy my videos can inspire you too. Wish you the best of luck :)

    @@JaneYang hi! i also graduated with a psychology degree in undergrad and i'm thinking about pursuing ux too. thank you jane for sharing your experience with us! do you think it is possible to completely self-study ux and learn enough to be ready for a role or do you think your experience in boot camp prepared you in a way you couldn't have on your own?

  • @JaneYang

    @@c0rnwalis hi!! Yay another psychology grad! In my honest opinion I think bootcamp definitely taught me the basics of UX in a very short amount of time and it was great having instructors you can reach out to whenever you need. While I know people have self-taught and been successful, I don’t think I would’ve been disciplined enough to get to where am now on my own. Also my favorite thing about bootcamp was making connections and learning alongside other students who know what your going through. Hope that helps and good luck!! Thanks for watching 😊

    Hi Jane! Love your content! 🤩🤩 I am myself in this field too and been looking to see what you could recommend in terms of the laptop. As a UX Researcher and Designer I wonder if you would recommend to have a 14inch or 16inch laptop to work on when doing a daily tasks, such as conducting or analysing the research? 🌻

    Hi! In my experience no coding experience is necessary. Having a very basic understanding of coding is helpful, but to be a UX designer you don't need it. I personally don't code at all, and I have no issues!

  • @JaneYang

    The first week I would definitely recommend asking all of the questions you can and going through the product your company is working on. As a designer it'll be really important that you know it inside out! And so jealous of you living in hawaii! I just came back from Oahu, so I'll be posting some related content soon :) Best of luck, you got this

    For ui ux is start up good or established company? Do start up pay good??

  • @JaneYang

    @JaneYang

    I would definitely say it depends on what you're looking for. Are you a problem solver and want a good challenge? Probably recommend startups. Do you want to have more structure in your work and a clear path? You probably would enjoy a mid-large company. As for pay, startups can range. I would say usually the salary is less because they offer you stocks (in hopes the company will do well in the future). Startups are dependent on funding so that is a big factor. In my experience I felt as though I got a competitive pay, which was great!
