Welcome to my first week of training for the RBC Brooklyn Half Marathon! It was a little rough... but that's okay because there's room to grow. If you're new here, I'm a 30-something living alone in New York City and last year I ran the NY marathon for the first time in 5 hours 31 mins. My previous half marathons are usually around 2 hours 25 mins and my goal for this race is sub 2 hours!! Stick around to see if I can do it :) subscribe to join the fam!

    as someone who has struggled with body weight issues pretty much my entire life, running has allowed me to not focus on the way that i look rather the way that i feel. if i'm running and i feel great, i find myself not even thinking about the way that i look. it's come to the point where, when it comes to food, i eat whatever i know makes me feel great for tomorrow's run. no calorie counting, no carb counting, just nutrition and fuel. thanks for opening up

    As a seasoned runner I can not emphasize enough how beneficial strength training is! It doesn't even have to be longer sessions twice a week, even just 20 minutes every other day will help you get stronger and also help with injury prevention. Good luck Chelsea!

    The strawberries are from Wish Farms which is in Plant City, Florida. It's peak strawberry season down here! Strawberries are super cheap right now because everything is so ripe, they have a short shelf life and need to sell fast

    I really appreciated your comments about having recovered from your foot injury. You're not taking it for granted, and that's so impressive... In my life, I've experienced two separate foot injuries, which, cumulative over time and lack of proper medical attention have left me with a permanent right foot deformity and lack of function. Its been very depressing because not being naturally athletic, simple walking was my best form of exercise. Boy, am I ever guilty of taking that for granted. 😟 I so, so miss the simple act of foot mobility. Learning how to adapt and get "over" things that are holding you back in life is *haaaard*. You are a constant inspiration! As many here say, your honest reflections and insights are refreshing and much appreciated. ❣️

    Sometimes I feel like an imposter calling myself a runner. I run on-again-off-again and even after 4 years. I'm still working my way up to a 5k. Thanks for including the Sunday run. The low days make the high days feel even more incredible, but it's especially helpful to see someone so much more seasoned than me have to stop running and walk, and be okay with it. Listening to your body is everything. Good luck with training! You got this!

    I did a 0 to half marathon last year and trained for 12 weeks! I ran 3 times a week and did strength training twice a week. Running isn’t my favorite thing in the world but the sense of accomplishment I felt after every run was unmatched. Rooting for you!!!

    I love how you're always keeping it real, like, the nap after you got up in the morning was so relatable, but I tend to beat myself up about these situations and always feel like I ruined the chance of a good day when in reality, it's not that big of a deal? the way you just complained a lil, then laughed about it, got up and got on with your day, idk, it was just so nice to see, and makes me want to be kinder to myself as well. thank you for sharing these moments :)

    Hey, good job! It’s always so hard to start back up with Physical stuff after not doing it for a while. I love how you use yourself talk to encourage yourself… I have to work really hard to not judge and put myself down. Learned that more negative way of dealing with myself growing up. It doesn’t help at all! But you’ve got this, and you found what motivates you.

I recently moved from Illinois (quite cold in these months) to North Carolina (absolutely beautiful weather!) and I found my first bike path that I completely enjoyed yesterday!     I also need a race to train for to stay motivated to run. I got into the 2020 NYC marathon and deferred until 2023. It was awesome and loved my first experience in New York. I entered the RBC Brooklyn Half and also got in! I’m behind on training (I need so much motivation in the dark Alaska winters), but excited to be headed east in May. I appreciate your accessible insights and vlog style video.

    i'm running the nycruns brooklyn half on 4/28! I'm a slower runner but still love seeing the progress...aside from some knee pain! good luck!

    Saw your NYC marathon video a few months back and it was one of many videos that got me into running, just did the NYC Half this past Sunday was an amazing experience not doing the Brooklyn Half but volunteering (my assignment is at Maimonides park handing out medals at the finish) hopefully get to give you yours when you finish!

    I have walked (sometimes jogged) every half marathon I’ve done (23), due to heart issues. You are soooo motivating me to attempt to work up to running/jogging my next race in spring next year (safely, of course). My sad PR is 3:22 and I want to beat that fiercely! Thank you for sharing your training with us slow folks! Keep it up!
