My First Time Trucking John Deere 850J Dozer on the Lowboy

Ойын-сауық

Well, that did NOT go to plan. Today I'm hauling excavation equipment for dirt perfect with his Mack truck and his detach low boy trailer. The equipment list is the John Deere 120 excavator, John Deere 850J bulldozer, and Volvo 140 Excavator. Definitely getting into some tight driveways and still trying to work through the process of hooking and unhooking the trailer makes for an interesting day of trucking. Hope you enjoy!

The seconds immediately after dropping the dozer and leaving the customer's driveway with the "Wide Load" signs still up reminds me of driving home from Purdue to Seymour many years ago. I spent a semester between internships where I did the 150+ miles each way 3 days a week. One trip home, it was almost 5pm, and I saw a flatbed trailer with the wide load signs, but without any visible load. I could see straps shaking in the wind whenever he was passed, but it took several miles for me to catch up. Once I did, I almost went into the median laughing because the driver had strapped down a Tonka dump truck to the lowboy trailer :)

When I was taught how to tie down equipment, I was told not to use the chain rail to hook to. It tends to create notches in the rail which ca result in stress risers and lead to cracking. That is why trailers have run rails and/or tie down loops. For what it is worth, I have never seen a trailer crack and some of them had seen rough use.

Great video Captain. Ran lots of different lowboys. You might try when your pin won't drop in, leave the lock pin up and raise the deck up and sit it back down. Then see if the pin drops in. Sometimes jiggling the neck a bit will do it too. Every trailer is different. Worth a try

Thanks for sharing. Always enjoy your videos. I think it’s called performance anxiety that causes those multi point turns. Shouldn’t be an issue anymore since you bare all on KZread. I’m always impressed with your ability to back those big trailers into the tight spaces you go. I know there are plenty of good drivers out there but whenever I see people making something look easy that I wouldn’t even have a clue where to start I’m impressed. Saw the posting of the pressure wash, that certainly looked like some pretty wood under all that paint. Stay safe, wishing you and your family the best.

Not to say I don't load all I can (I've been hauling everything I own 200+ miles over the last couple of months), and sometimes forget that tractor implements and furniture aren't necessarily compatible flatbed partners.🙄 (Want a slightly damaged computer table? Drag that bell tower to new location before removing the bracing. Figure out how to pressure wash and paint there. I would hate to see it twisted while moving to new location.

lots of preplanning when you are using such a trailer good work , now if the store would put in a truck & equipment friendly fuel pumps life would be easier

What’s unfriendly about the pumps? Can pull fully loaded trucks underneath, doesn’t get much more friendly than that 😂

If both the controls are backwards, DP's hydraulic lines off the truck are hooked to the trailer backwards. Also didn't he run over the broom you had on the last trailer? We all have those days, Monday I had to chain up after I got stuck in two inches of slime. Just enough rain to turn the dirt into grease. Thanks for always taking us along on your adventures.

it is amazing that wood decks support so much weight.

The trailer has a steel frame with structural cross members, under the wood.

Little trick for you, sometimes you can put the foot down more (put more pressure on the frame of the tractor with the foot) and it will push the gooseneck back and will push them tabs tight to the deck to lock the pin.

It stops you from doing 100 pull ups to get perfectly straight especially when you aren’t on level ground. Make sure the pin is in the lock position so it goes in when pressure is applied
