    Tell him what? That ‘tallica was a complete dick to Jason? He sure didn’t deserve it. Jason was a perfect fit. Here’s a wild thought, Rob has now been with Metallica longer than Jason was. And unfortunately, I have to say they both have the same number of solid albums. Jason was there through their hay day though.

    @@trxr4kdz opeth is unquestionably more heavy and brutal than metallica, and are more melodic too. metallica is faster, and given that opeth is a prog band, probabky more catchy. but an opeth hook gets stuck in my head for weeks, while i can't say the same for metallica. i love both bands, but the contrast, to me at least, is that metallica is a speed metal band that incorporates melodies well, while opeth is a melodic death metal band (early opeth) that writes very proggy songs. so for opeth, being brutal and melodic is the core of their music while the core of metallica's music is playing fast. again they are both awesome though.

  • @trxr4kdz

    @trxr4kdz

    @@hoopsmccann639 well you I agreed with what you said besides two points. I believe that most of Metallica’s hooks are absolutely catchier than any riff any band can come up with (Master of Puppets, Enter Sandman, Fade to Black, One, Nothing Else Matters, etc.). And yes I understand that point is almost purely subjective. And secondly, I think that Metallica has found a way where they can thrash the hell out of a song, while at the same time achieving beautiful melodies to the point where it becomes frankly undeniable. But what we can agree on, is that both bands are absolutely great!

  • @hoopsmccann639

    @@trxr4kdz when i re-read what i wrote, i don't think it came out as clear as it was in my mind. what i was saying is that metallica writes catchier music, because opeth is very proggy and prog isn't catchy, but opeth's hooks have the staying power to stick in my head for longer periods of time. for example, i have listened to an opeth album for a couple weeks, then i will take it out and pop in an album from another artist and 2 or 3 songs in i have taken it back out, only to put that same opeth album back in for a couple more weeks. it's a different kind of catchy, if that makes sense.

    The riff starting at 2:27 was actually written by bassist Jason Newsted on his 4 track. When he introduced to James, he was blown away by it. He would go on to ask Jason how the "tricky riff" went. The cruel irony is, that Jason's bass is pretty much rendered mute on this entire album.

    @Deadlock T if you are into thrash, check out some death metal. Kind of a step up in terms of heaviness, but you may like it. Death is a great band, whether you like their early heavy work or their later technical stuff. Check out sepultura for some beautiful Brazilian thrash. Final pick is gojira, they actually tour with Metallica. All great bands, go check them out if you haven’t already!

    First time!? Wow.. I bought this album 1988 the moment it came out.. I froze.. It was something absolutely different from puppets, lightning and kill em all.. OK Master of puppets is killer but Justice is some crazy unbelievably great album.. This is album that I can listen from first song till the last without skipping Countless times, nights, days, hours I have spent listening and enjoying this beautiful album... What energy used to be realest wooow.. The best time for me when is overcast, dark heavy grey sky and headphones on and BLACKENED is coming out.. Every song is winner.. I don't even care about Lars hating the eye of beholder, for him is ugly song, to me sits perfect on the record... Harvester of sorrow... Ahhh the best song ever... The frayed ends of sanity agghhhhh kills... And to finish album with Dyers eve common... And justice for all is the best Metallica record.. I know it is so hard to say it and the reason why is simply because of Master of puppets and Ride the lightning but sorry guys my ♥ goes with JUSTICE..

    I don't think a lot of people realize the fever of anticipation in the long 2 years between Master of Puppets and ...Justice. Firing in the cassette and hearing the intro to Blackened with zero radio play on ANY song and one of the member replaced since the last studio album? It was an unreal time. For a lot of people, even the Black album didn't have this level of anticipation.
