FIRST TIME HEARING 'Metallica - Blackened' | GENUINE REACTION

Ойын-сауық

Here's my reaction to hearing Metallica - Blackened for the first time. I think this is the first song from the And Justice For All Album that I have heard. I think it's obvious that I'll have to listen to all the others, especially if they're all as good as this one.

This is Metallica at their most focused, most aggressive, angriest (after Cliff Burtons death) and on the brink of superstardom. In terms of composition this whole album is monstrous. It's deep, progressive, incredibly heavy and tight as fuck. Make sure to listen to To Live Is To Die' as it will really move you in a very different way. Metallica rolled everybody when this dropped - yes the production is different, but the songs are totally fucking lit. BLACKENED 👊

I know a lot of people complain about the lack of bass on this album, but for me the lack of bass makes James' guitar tone stand out more than on any other album and it's never sounded better. As a guitarist, for me this album is the holy grail of guitar tones. As for recommendations from this album, I'd go with either the title track, Justice For All, or the instrumental, To Live Is To Die. They're the two longest songs on the album and they both feature lots of switch-ups and different parts.

You hit the nail in the coffin when you said it didn't sound as heavy and followed that up by saying "bass". EXACTLY! The bassist at the time "Jason Newstead" was famously slighted by Lars repeatedly telling the producer to lower the bass in the mix. This is a Heavy album, it's just lacking Jason's sound. They were hooked to a pair of Kenwood 10 inch subs...A mono block didn't sound right. I also had a Sony amp going to a pair of 3 channel 6x9s. it hit hard and everything sounded great on AJFA album and all others. I guess that's why it got stolen one night despite me having it chains on it. I did get to spend 7 years with that system.

So glad you are finally getting into my favorite album by Metallica. This whole album exudes the grief that the band was still reeling with after the tragic loss of the best bassist on Earth. I know a lot of people prefer Master of Puppets, but ...And Justice for All made me really in awe of Metallica's raw talent and the effect that Cliff Burton had on James, Kirk, and Lars as not just musicians, but songwriters. I know you also already did the music video version of "One," from this album, but the album version is much longer and a completely different experience. While the video is iconic in its own right, as it was something vastly different in a sea of sameness in the MTV generation, the song itself is a masterpiece.

When you listen the title song "Justice for All", I recommend the live version from Seattle 1989 show. Overall on this album, as many have already said, bass had mixed very quiet, which makes the personal sound of the album. In my opinion, guitars sound overall quite angry, especially combined with James's singing. Some have said, that Lars is trying to do plenty of stuff with drums, trying to mimic some "melodies" too.

@@shrmpizza8660 I’ve listened to the remastered with bass. I always go back to the original though.

So with this album there's a few things going on. This was released in 1988 2 years after Cliff Burton the bass player on the 1st 3 albums died. There are various stories out there for the lack of bass. One is that Metallica turned the bass down in memory of Cliff almost like its supposed to be missing. Another one is they wanted to haze their new bass player. I also heard lars Ulrich the drummer say that the album sounds thinner so it would sound better on car stereos at the time. Who knows what's really true. All I know is the album is a masterpiece and IMO it's their best work. Check out a song called Dyers Eve from this album.

In 1983 as the world was just coming out of the disco era, Metallica made itself known to the world and turned music on it’s head with the debut album “kill em all” and the first track on that album was “hit the lights”. That was the first inclination that this band was here to kick your ass, and made damn sure you remembered who they were. Please, if you can, check that track out and then see what you think of Metallica

Love your videos man. This was an important song, most people think that metal bands are just all about noise, but these guys were singing about climate change and environmental issues back in the 80's. There was another band back in the 80's called Kreator who had a song called Some pain will last, which was also about what damage mankind was doing to the planet, us metal heads are not all stupid noise merchants.

Looking forward to this one 🎉🎉, another banger from this album is, and justice for all but the seattle 89 version is a must reaction. The ending is 👌👌👌, and most metallica fans will know what I mean 😉

MOLLYBOY! People get pissed off about Metallica doing the exact same type of riffing you are losing your shit over! Remember that. Each song is a story, a journey, never lose that sense of wonder!

Possibly the best intro of a metal song ever and if you don’t already know, it’s a solo that was engineered backwards in the recording studio.

RTL -84; MOP -86; AJFA -88 They killed the bass to haze Jason....sooooo stupid That intro was recorded backwards and then they flipped what they had and got that. Jason's first writing contribution is in this song. The 3rd and 4th time around after they come out of the solo, James switches to the upbeat and it may be one of my favorite moments in all their songs Rock on homie 🤘

As a fan I couldn't wait for this album to drop , the only record they had with Jason was the $5.98 EP which kicked ass , this is at least for me is one of the best albums they have. The tour was the best concert I have ever seen , 4 1/2 hours long ... What a night 🤘🤘

Found your channel and really liking your reactions to metal. You for sure appreciate the instruments but watch a view videos with the lyrics or follow them on your phone during the songs. Metal is WAY more than just the instruments, especially Metallica and Tool.
