My First Surf Fishing Trip in NC! North Topsail Beach Spanish Mackerel Action!

Спорт

First Surf fishing trip since I’ve relocated to NC from FL. I was able to get a nice Spanish Mackerel (17in) on a single drop rig with fishbites sandflea/live blood worm. Finally got a decent enough trip to post so here is my first of many fishing adventures in NC!

Beautiful videography; thank you. Brought back memories: I am in my 8th decade, but years ago my parents owned a beach house on Topsail Island/Onslow Beach...one of those "inexpensive" Jim Walter homes on pilings. I used to LOVE surf fishing there; used mostly blood worms and I caught lots of "Spot" which were a delicious panfish. Not much more relaxing then sitting on a chair with surf washing around one's ankles while admiring such beautiful surroundings with catching fish as a bonus.

I'm in North Topsail Beach rn on vacation and all I have been catching for the past few days are croaker and sharks. Do you know why this is? I've been using shrimp and mullet but I think I might try bloodworms tomorrow to see how it goes.

If you are looking for Spanish, most likely won’t catch on a bottom rig like I did, that’s very rare. I would suggest a surf casting spoon and fast retrieve it. Also if you can search in the surf and find sandfleas that would be great for pompano. Hope you have some better luck! Thanks for watching

Awesome vid. Water looks calm enough for a kayak. Is cut Spanish Mackeral as bait legal in North Carolina? In Texas it is illegal to use game fish as bait (live or cut). Can anyone give me some feedback on this? Thanks.

Thanks for watching! As far as I know, I can use cut, whole, or live here in NC. Different reds for different species of game fish here 👍🏻 hope that helps!

Hey in Nc you have to keep head to tail on any game fish that’s harvested that has a size limit. Only know cause a guy next to us got fined last year while we were fishing Hatteras. You can filet so over length can be checked that’s completely legal. Tight lines
