I love that you said it’s a learning process- every time I cast and watch and talk to other anglers I learn. Fish on or skunked it is the always a good day when fishing❤️.
Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup kzread.infoUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.
Fishing *show* Congratulations Fisherman!👍🎣🐠🐟

This is awesome I have lived here in buxton my whole life and have been subscribed to your channel for a while now then I see this so cool you guys were here!
just found your channel yesterday. after about 5 videos, the consistently positive attitude and the sharing of knowledge is really refreshing. skipper and his girl are a welcome addition to my subs and regularly viewing. Keep it up and thank you sincerely.
Yeah it is a learning process. That motivated me, made my day
You are so lucky.to have dad who shares and TEACHES YOU.ALL HIS KNOWLEDGE..YES YOUR BLESSED
I really admire your family. Everyone is into fishing which is really nice. Cool dad. Wish I could fish with my dad but hes long gone. Keep up the good work and before you know, you will have a mil subscribers.
I like your honesty, and your conclusion, locals can teach you a lot about their area, you learn something new every time you go out fishing. Your guys fishing is different than us here in south Africa but the basic principals are always the same. Keep on fishing
wow! I'm in Hatteras right now and I can't wait to get fishing!! Thanks so much for making this video. It's so helpful!
Great job! The best part is that you learnt something from it!
Simple and easy for new beginners. On vacations try your tips. Thank you
Seriously under-clubbed my friend. Nice video, glad you and your family had a good time at one of my favorite spots in the world.
lol love that dad and son S talking.. My dad and I like to give each other a hard time in the name of fun.
screw that. I fish to get away from people. This actually looks like hell to me.

Fantastic video. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Skipper! thanks for the video
That Old G. Loomis is the as the one I bought judging by the wiggle in yours it's a MF Action 10' 6". Mine is a spinning HF Action 10' 6" Gary loomis from mid 2000s. I married it to a Shimano THUNNUS 1600f Bait Runner. I have never broken either one or had too send for repairs. 14 years old I fish northern California coast line rocks, Rocky outcrops and 40ft bluffs.
Way too many people for me, but great info you provided. Good job and thanks!
Another awesome video, that's why I sub'ed. Now you are at my stomping grounds...This is where I was taught by my Dad to surf fish....WELCOME... glad you came!
Love you from EGYPT keep going
I was just there over April break. Awesome spot!
Awesome video like always guys , off those were some big fish
I subscribed when you guys are about 2k subscriber. It was the time you do just fresh water fishing. But you go on the right way to attract more people. Saltwater fishing is super interesting. Thank you so much for making great video.

You have a very cool family!! Love your videos!! Your dad is a Legend!!
GLAD YOU ENJOYED THE OBX!
Cool muvie thanks for the info. Great educational vid.
Now that's what I'm talkin about!! It looks like that down here in October!!
There is a casting technique called "Hatteras Cast" on conventional/baitcasting reel and it was originated from there. I found using the "off the ground cast" is much easier to send out your payload but fishing a crowded place like that "Hatteras Cast" might be better.
always great fishing at Hatteras
I'm actually right by the point, I'm on vacation and have been fishing avons peir for awhile, great fishing spot
Great info!
I've been fishing at Cape Point for nearly 35yrs. You seem like a very nice guy and with your attitude, I'm sure i would have helped you too. It's even better in the Fall. The drum are starting to show back up now as a matter of fact.... Personally i like late Oct early Nov the best.

your video helped me a lot in terms of fishing, so creative and very useful, success is always for you, from Indonesia greetings fishing, thank you
So glad to see you in NC! If you happen to head to the mainland towards Morehead City or Atlantic beach (not too far from Hatteras), Id love to show you some of my favorite places to fish!
Yep, same thing happened to me long ago, could never understand how these competition club anglers can stand on the same stretch of beach as I would, but they would just pull out one after the other. So one evening I met one of these guys, and he mentioned a couple of interesting things, besides the obvious things like weather, tides, bait and rigs for your target fish etc, he talked about the little things, such as using fluorocarbon for the hook leader line, braid for longer casting, and one thing he stressed above all : Make sure your hooks are super sharp, or buy chemically sharpened hooks.
Sweet video! I’m dying to get to the beach. Already fished it a few times this time last year.

Everything has been messed up this year man, I feel like we are just now warming up over here. Summer is only beginning!
I have always used this rig before, it is great for carp
awesome video. for my sinker i use a grip lead. its really great to use off the surf because it grips on the bottom and releases wen u want to wind the bait in or if u get a big fish on. should have used the bigger rod haha lol
Yea i was in va beacj last year. If you ever go to the pier there theres a short loud guy named frank you cant miss him. Great dude and hes one of those that catched big fish after big fish, at the end of the pier we had a good 10 rods out and like you said just the same 4 people were cstchimg while everyone else including myself was watching. I even bought an open face penn and a 12 ft rod but never managed to land me a fish on that rod at all even with help from the local friends i made, location location location, the bait spot placement is everything
super fishing 👍
Great video, here in the UK most of our shore fishing is done with long rods 12ft + for casting tips search Jon Holden for rigs and general shore fishing gold search the totally awesome fishing show. Sure allot of the tips and tricks here will cross over. Tight lines!
Need that 15' rod you used before! Great vid!
I'll be going to Avon, NC in two weeks for two weeks. I have probably spent over a year of my life there and have never fished the point. Your chances of catching a large drum are much better there than other places on the island but I like to relax when I fish and that wouldn't be possible surrounded by so many people.
Best video yet !

Hey I’d love to see a casting video! And definitely want to meet up and fish. I’m in northern Virginia. Great stuff guys! Keep it up!
Great vid. My nephew fishes at Cape point a lot. He has more than one Hatteras Heaver. That is what you need. I go at least once a year to the OBX but have never fished at Cape Point because there are so many people. I've caught a lot of those big drum but I catch them in Pamlico Sound and Neuse river and Pamlico river from a boat. If you don't have a boat there are guides that can really put you on them. July, August, September and even October if it doesnt turn cold too early. Trouble is, you have to throw them back if they are over 27 inches. The slot is 18 to 27. You can keep one. They are excellent table fare. I like to blacken them. Google it. All of your ideas and reasoning were pretty much right. You just need a Hatteras Heaver.
Well done man all da way from southafrica
Great stuff. I wish I could have went down there with you. I'll plan for next year. That's combat fishing from the surf.

Hey Skipper, I used this modified fish finder rig here at Onslow Beach, NC and caught 8 slot reds out of the surf in one day. Thanks for the fishing tips. 👍

Use Bunker heads if you can find it down there. Tica makes a good starting Heaver. I had one and loved it. I have a Diawa now with a Sealine reel. Good luck. I'm in Stuarts Draft Virginia
Good video🤩
Dad is super chill
I kind of blown away how close everyone is standing and their lines aren’t crossing? Those are some nice reds. That’s been my target
That beach looks so easy to drive on man come here to western Australia and get on some of our beaches
Great 👍👍👍
Awesome video guys! Loved to see everyone out there doing there thing! Super fun! Thanks for uploading this! Good luck on your next outing!
It looks like you're down at the point. You definitely need a hatters heaver, bigger hooks, and mono line. Then watch, learn and get in the conga line. Great video by the way.

Haha love that, “watch, learn, and get in the conga line “ 😂 it was a crazy experience for sure. Can’t wait to try it again
As a general rule for a shock leader 10 lbs test for each ounce of weight. Standard is 8 ounce pyramid sinker at the point so 80 lbs shock leader MINIMUM! And make sure you have enough to wrap around the spool at least 5 or 6 times. I have a lot of fond memories fishing the OBX. Caught a lot of nice fish there and a TON of Hatteras long tailed flounder (skates / rays) too!

Hey SS.BURKE NC.native here.Sandhills.it's been years ago but I suggest booking a cabin( quite a wait these days ,so get to it now!) OKRACOKE!....Oct.Nov..same sticks & reels .plus some inshore gear for doormat flounder .lob a small mullet minnow behind the breakers w as small of a barrel weight as conditions will allow & walk with it.keep line right but don't drag it. You want line angel around 10-11 o'clock from your body.if it's to woods or

Try it and let me know how it goes!
Nice vid! Love throwing heavers. That 15 footer you got prolly wouldnt cast the weight (usually 8-10oz out there) needed to sit and stay on the ground. Most likely didnt really cross anyone's line bc of how close you were casting to shore. I'd say start off with a 12' that is rated an minimal, up to 10 oz. Most cases, it is 8 and bait. Most of mine are rated 6-12 oz for the drum rods. Get a bigger hook 9/10 J. Get a decent conventional reel (usually size 15 for drum). Shorten up that leader to the hook. You'll be bombing em out there in no time! Should have put a small chunk of that bluefish on. Drum love em. Always a good tactic to use what is presently in the water. Tight lines man.

I have a Seigler SM bait caster an open cage not a level wind that I use here in Florida a 12ft rod 20lb mono 40lb mono shock leader I can cast much further with this set up than spinning outfits plus a baitcaster gives you much more battle control over the brutes. It takes practice using this type of reel but once you do it will be your favorite. You can start with a level wind but it limits your distance cast and if a Tarpon is on the level wind can not keep up with the spooling and many fish are lost due to backlash .
so many surfcasters over the beach !
I love you guys, been watching since day one.....youve really helped me through rough times just watching :) keep doing your things guys!!!!!

Going there this week anay tips for surf casting
I want to start surf fishing some kinda bad. I drove on the beach access on Kure Beach this past spring and after I saw everyone fishing I instantly got interested and wanted to try it myself. I've gotten bored with farm ponds around here
Awesome vid. I love that place and that was not actually crowded.its worse in the fall. When you go back. Stop in at Hatteras Jack's in rodanthe and look at his custom built century's and knobby mag reels.
@HeySkipper
6 жыл бұрын
woah. haha i was thinking of going back but i need a 4wd... did you say that wasn't even crowded? loll
@danielwhitaker2535
6 жыл бұрын
Senko Skipper when you can't fit anymore people in there and you are shoulder to shoulder two rows deep that is crowded. It only gets like that if the bit gets really hot. as far as a 4wd goes All you need is a old Jeep Cherokee on a small lift and all terrain tires or Ford bronco and you will have no problems getting anywhere on the national seashore. Also another place you should try is the inlet on the south end in Hatteras village. That is a good place for red and black drum and flounder as well as many other fish species. Have you ever fished at any other beaches in NC?
I thought carp lakes in the uk were crowded.Thats crazy how busy it is.Love the videos 👍
Nice video man, ive been there . Its not easy at the point. There are only certain holes the fish are in. You just have to get in position to grab tge spot after tge guy fishing there gets one. But thats not easy for tge new guy. Its fun to be there. I never got a big red, but did get a 36" blue. Got into the reds in another beach further south in the fall a few years ago.. it was a good week.
I was here last week was awsome . Caught 4 drum in 2 days. They had half the beach shut down for the birds
I hope to try some more surf fishing soon!

Plan a trip 1st -3rd week to nag head and to try for the big drum either on the surf or piers. DM me if you have any questions.
It took me years to learn to cast like that, lots of time with just a weight on the line. And lots of cut it all off birds nests. Cheapest set up that's good is diawa sealine x 30 sha and like a 12' Penn prevail. That's a good starting rig, after that its all about the pendulum cast and practice. You'll be in there in no time. Also no braid just mono 17-20 lbs and a 50 lbs shock leader. Hope this helps you out

why he attach the hook so down near the sinker? ain´t that gona make the bite to be to near the ocean floor?
Was out there in April catching some monsters. Look into a ocean master they're a great rod at a really good price
Interesting rig. I'm going to give it a try. BTW - I'm new to Daytona Beach, so my first three fishing trips, I didn't bring a rod, just my eyes and ears.
what kind of line to use, which one and when?
