Surf Fishing the OBX for Spanish Mackerel in the middle of Summer *New Species: Jack Crevalle*

Спорт

It's the dog days of Summer here in North Carolina. It's mid-August (8/15) and fishing along the coast has been slow. We had a cold front pass through that has dropped the water temps down and brought the fish back to the beach. This is a fun and exciting time of year as we're just around the corner from Fall showing up and the fish migrations to begin. Enjoy this video and don't forget to comment, like and subscribe. Tight lines to everyone and we'll see you on the water.

I live in a small house here, and I fish from bebop sometimes, but the fish nibble, but don’t eat it 😂😂

Definitely 1.0-1.5oz metal for Spanish and blues. Check out Beach Bum Lures on Facebook. He’s a new sponsor on the channel and makes awesome jigs. If you need anything else feel free to ask! Thanks.

What are the rod specs? I’m wanting to find a good casting rod that loads up nice with 1-2 oz lures

I would use a minimum of 7’ Med and up. But the longer the rod, the further you can sling metal. I just upgraded to 9’ with a 3500 BG. 20lb braid and 1.5oz absolutely fly about 75/80 yards.

Incoming or out going at the jetty? Or did it matter?

Honestly Zachary I’ve had the best luck at the peak of high tide about 2 hours before peak and 2 hours after it’s dumping out. I’ve caught fish dead low tide too but the quality over seemed better near peak high.

Where were you fishing? That's not the jetty at fort Macon is it?

It is. That landscape has changed so much. It’s literally lost the entire beach near the CG station and the curve going towards the getting is gone. All of the sand piled up on the right side of the jetty. It’s weird. You’d have to see it in person.

CG literally moved the green bouy 25 yards from where the point used to be. It’s so close you can cast and hit it.

I haven’t been there since April when blues showed up. It’s amazing what that current has done and what it’s changed

No sir the Spanish were clean. Only thing I’ve seen with worms over the past year was big amberjacks and black drum.

Hey Rich. Do you fish both sides of jetty or do one side in fall and other in spring? It's Rick.

It honestly just depends on the tide. I’d prefer fishing two hours before high tide and about 2 hours after it begins to dump out.
