Not quite, I get what you are saying but it still uses the USB standard at 5V 1Amp (well actually Amps can range from .5 to 1.2). It’s hard to argue that Apple is non-standard solely because of their huge market share. When you make up 30-50% of the tablet/phone market the non-standard seems to become common enough to be called standard.. ya know?

My first phone was a Nokia 5110. My phone plan had 250 texts, 150 minutes, and free weekends, but not free nights. It had interchangeable faceplates, which I took huge advantage of. I had like 30 faceplates for this thing. I forget what games were on it, but remember it had snake. It got confiscated at school like 15 times. Good times.

Around 2002 I had one of the first smartphones: a Handspring Visor Platinum with a GSM module. It had a (resistive) touch screen, downloadable apps (something the iPhone didn't have for over a year after it launched), and regular html web access (no need for WAP, though it was extraordinarily slow, so I didn't actually use it). If you got additional modules you could swap them out to play MP3s, take pictures, or use GPS (proper GPS using satellites, not AGPS which mostly uses ground-based stations). It was pretty awesome.

man, it looks really nice, I really wish there was a phone like this right now, the e-ink, the vintage mushy buttons, flip screen. Despite growing up as a 17 year old with a iPhone X, I seriously have a fond with these phones.

Omg.. I had the same one, a green one! With that transparent holder to put in your belt. However my first phone was an Alcatel, if I recall correctly this was -93. Before that I had a Nokia 150 (NMT) and somewhere also a pager - if anyone can remember what that was.. But wait, my headphone was different, it had a mic attached directly to the mono headset (flexible).

100% would go back to translucent electronics. Used to mod my iPhone with clear glass replacement backs, back in the 4/4S days. By the way, I got my first cellphone around the same time as you, summer 2003. It was a Nokia 3300, which was actually a fairly advanced phone for the time. It was basically a cheaper, less capable version of the N-Gage. Same form factor. I remember people commenting “why do you need a keyboard on your phone??” LOL

i actually had an N-Gage which i swapped the case for a transparent one and then i got a keypad light board to go with it, you put it between the keys and the mainboard, it had an RGB LED for every key, a little antenna which detects the RF from the phone and a power connection which wraps around the edge to the battery at the back... it was like a christmas tree in my pocket

@@jayrb2801 If you think N-Gage was great, you are lying about having actually owned it. It wasn't great, it was garbage and that is also why it completely flopped as a product.

I got my first phone in '99, a BT Cellnet Philips C12. Fantastic thing about that phone was that if you pulled the battery whilst a text was sending, it would still send but you wouldn't get charged for it.

I had a very similar text pager - same layout, Motorola, but all black and smaller. It was *amazing* because it sent and received email! I...I kinda miss it.

I HAD THIS SAME PHONE it was around 2000 if i remember right

The thing is Lighting is a better plug than USB C.

my first cellphone was an LG Remarq. I loved it. Dropped it constantly and it never broke lol

Check out the Fairphone 3, it has, not only a clear plastic panel, the panel, battery (and all components) are easily removable. It's a really cool phone if a little bulky.

My first phone was the Ericsson PF-768 in 1997 when I was around 15, it was an awesome flip phone. It is really stone age now (a lot more than the one in this video), but back then it was so much cooler than every other payg phone out at the time.

I think I had a Nokia 3510i as my first phone. I was about 10-12 at the time and pretty much all I remember from it is the Bounce game. But I also had a Nokia 3200 around that time so I'm not actually sure. The 3200 was pretty cool with the swappable designs on the front and back, I think the tool for creating your own panels are still in a drawer somewhere...

Why is it still only at 360p??

2019: The return of flip phones

I still have mine. You can't use it because there is no GSM coverage anymore but it turns on fine.

Thankfully the 2.5mm celular headphone jack was a rather standard interface back in the day. I remember buying a 2.5mm Jabra Bluetooth interface. It worked on my cell phones back then and even on the Voice chat card for my original xbox.

I remember having a pager on the 1990's
