MY FIRST AR BUILD (With No Instructions)

So I figured, by my own free will of course, it was time for me to try to build my first AR-15. To add to the challenge, I decided I wanted to try it while having zero tutorials or help during the build. White Label Armory sent me some high quality parts to throw together, so I give it a shot!
Here is the link to USCCA: usccapartners.com/TheAKGuy
(Note to KZread: We do not show any build instructions of any kind, and skip any footage of the act of building/putting parts together)

About Me
My name is Brandon Herrera. I'm the owner and operator of The AK Guy Inc, a 07 Firearm Manufacturer based out of Fayetteville, NC. I also co-own Stark Media Group, and designed the rifle known as the AK-50.
I've started to dedicate this KZread channel above all to have fun, but also as a way to document my entrepreneurial journey for the next few years as I try to grow my companies. Hopefully, people can learn from my example, successes, and failures.
Either way, I'm having a lot of fun with it so far, and I hope it's just as fun to follow along!

  • @MrKeserian

    @MrKeserian

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@camostrike4395 the important thing to remember is that the AK-47 and AR-15 were built for two radically different countries with radically different military doctrines and industrial bases. The US had the industrial capacity, experience, and knowledge to mass produce a rifle that required large milled components. At the time Mikhail developed the AK, the USSR didn't (at least not at the scale to equip an army). Further, the AR isn't an "unreliable" gun, just less reliable than the AK, and the AK isn't inaccurate, just less accurate than an AR (again, we're talking about your average issue weapon) for a variety of engineering reasons, most having to do with less reciprocating mass because of the AR's (semi-) direct impingement system. The AR also gets a small boost because the "firing components" of the weapon are essentially three parts (upper, lower, barrel) whereas the AK uses a larger number of parts that are all riveted together. Again, this doesn't mean the AR is better than the AK, just that Stoner and Kalashnikov had very different design priorities. Also, in before anyone starts bringing up Vietnam reliability issues, that was the army's stupidity. They switched propellant type from the recommended ball to stick powder, I assume because of cost. The problem is that ball powder has spherical powder grains that result in a much more complete burn, whereas stick powder leaves much more carbon in the combustion gas. This, combined with the military not wanting to spend the money to chrome the internals (as Stoner insisted), and to then tell the soldiers that cleaning was unnecessary, resulted in a ton of failures, as anyone who's ever handled a rifle could have foreseen. When using the designed for propellant, and designed for maintenance, the AR platform is nicely reliable (although not as absolutely indestructible as the AK, but then again, different design priorities). A good example of this is a dust test that InRangeTV did with AK style and AR style rifles. Both weapons malfunctioned initially, were cleared within a couple seconds, and then went on to function absolutely perfectly.

I got one of the genuine Magpul serialized ones, and upgraded it with an improved spring, motor, LiPo battery, and forgot to check the gearbox internals. Welp, one completely stripped gear later and I got a lesson in why I should have gotten a gas bow back instead of an AEG. Imagine my surprise when I started getting into real firearms and realized how mechanically simple firearms are. If you think about it, there are really only a handful of moving parts: Mag catch, trigger, sear, hammer, bolt carrier, and bolt. Everything else is just window dressing or not necessary for the gun to run.

    If it makes you feel any better, as someone who's mechanically inclined, I found building an AR from scratch to be easy but the specificity was enough for certain steps that I did look at examples to ensure I didn't screw up. Mostly, the grease used to mate the barrel to the upper Timing the barrel nut / gas tube and bringing things to a specific torque spec Some of the small pins on the lower were annoying to deal with too. Overall though, it wasn't near as hard as the stuff I've had to do to keep my vehicles running lol.

    USCCA, is a very great idea to have. I signed up one night @1030pm and in @ 30 minutes I was signed up. Not to mention they gave me my military discount of 10% off. I paid for the year in advance and saved another 10%. They gave me a rescue pack, worth at least $50.00 and a hand gun lock box, worth at least $75. So it's a great deal for a great idea for great coverage in a very cynical world. And of course the build without instructions is great. I am a Marine from the early 80's and I still can take apart and assemble my AR in the dark with my eyes closed. But you are correct to say there is an order to build it. Also a complete build is doable but uet difficult to do without instructions for the first time for sure. Great show, keep it up. Thanks

    I've built several ARs and currently own two. The AR is a good firearm and I enjoy shooting mine. That said, I prefer the AK. My current, and for the past few years, favorite, all around, rifle is a nice little AK-74 with a side folding stock, Red Star Arms trigger, Russian style safety lever, and red dot optic. It's compact, reliable, and accurate. I live in Arizona and the AK goes with me, in my side by side or my Jeep, when I'm exploring the deserts and mountains, around here. I enjoyed the video and it looks like the build turned out well.

    I'm left handed and I remember when I was like 5 and shot for the first time my father asked me to hold the rifle and I held it like a left hander and he just said "no that's the wrong shoulder" and since then I shoot like a normal person.

    if you can handle the gun correctly right hand, use a riser for the optic, that's what I did and I can shoot right-handed with my left eye. (cross dominance, and the right eye doesn't work)

    @@Razgriz85 usually it's an eye dominance issue. I fire rifles lefty but sidearms right handed but aligned to my left eye. Makes for "tacticool" transitioning but is far easier as the weapons don't obstruct each other.

    I do gunsmithing over in Georgia. A client bought a high end ( $1500 + ) brand name AR15. He was upset that after picking it up at a dealer, new out of the box, it acted as if the gas system did not work. I had a test fire with it to see. No bolt movement via gas. I took it apart and every last piece was marked with factory inspection marks. After getting the gas block off, I was sad to see that the factory did not bother to drill a gas vent hole into the barrel. After I drilled it, it worked fantastically.
