Little did Brandon know that that conversion kit was actually made by the ATF and was going to be required in all rifles in a couple of years

I had an East German .22lr AK training rifle. The magazines were actual AK mags with a .22 mag insert. No plastic anywhere. It cycled damn near flawlessly and was accurate enough. It had the plumb plastic furniture and the standard AK could be fixed to the barrel and lug. Mitchel Arms made one as well. I owned them both. This was in 1992-93 during the post ban fiasco. The East German model was legal in pre ban configuration because it had some American parts. They were far and few between.

There are conversion kits, like this one, for ar15 that work very nice. So what i learned from your video is basically that the disconnector is an obstacle in a 22lr blowback system yet one spare disconnector and a file are good investments.

Honestly, if i was doing this video, i'd feel unwell even telling people where to find this. Mainly because of the blatant problems it was having on his test-beds. I'd 'never' tell anyone where to find something that was unsafe. If they google it, thats on them, but i'd personally never openly tell people how to find something unreliable and unsafe to even get.

Shooting full auto anything is amazing 99.99% of the time. The .01% that it isn't fun...is when it's not supposed to shoot full auto. This conversion kit manages to nail that .01. That's really saying something. Nothing good. Of course. But something.

I built my own HBAR AR-15 in 1989. It functioned identically to this AK. It turned out to be the trigger. Once I put in the correct trigger, the rifle functioned correctly. It took me over 3 decades to figure it out with a kid fresh out of gunsmith school.

I've watched a few of these drop-in kit videos now and ammo quality also seems to be a big factor too. You want high pressure .22LR ammo, don't just grab the cheapest stuff off the shelf.

I got the cmmg 22 AR conversion kit and its been flawless through over 40000 rounds.i even run it with a binary triggee and still no hiccups ! I was hoping this would work that sucks but makes sense the AK doesnt seem like a good 22 platform at all

Honestly I don't shoot either round all that much, compared to how much spent brass I have of either of these. I use them for my model tanks/artillery, because .17 HMR is almost perfect scale for 120mm(~ish) spent brass in 1/35 scale.

That was the most fun I had all day.

Some-odd decades back, I had an M-1 Carbine lookalike in.22 lr from an Italian company (whose name is lost to time), that had a poorly designed disconnector sear. The metal of the trigger group was of no better composition than might be expected from the 1960s import scene and together with a sear that would happily suspend operations to become an impromptu "happy switch", I found that I possessed a 10 round buzz saw that was still quite accurate. Luckily, (never thought I would say THAT), my brother burned my motorhome to the ground , turning the mostly zinc action into a metallic cow pie. That saved me from all sorts of nasty problems, but I will never, truly, be grateful.

Should adopt Glock's numbering model, so the AK-50 is a .22lr, and the AK-22 is .50 BMG.

My good ol AMT Lightning vintage ruger 10/22 clone in all steel with a folding stock and m&p 15-22 both work flawlessly and never jam. Theyre accurate as hell too

I bought an ar22 coversion kit from cmmg and a few of their mags. I assymbled it dedicated, runs like a spotted ass ape. AR is such a simple design it'll run just about anything. Whereas the AK is not the Olympian-like performer without 545 or 762.

Congrats, you have a bolt-action micro-pea shooter that sometimes goes full auto when you don’t want it to, and sometimes disassembles itself, too

This conversion kit can make AKs sometimes semi-auto, usually bolt action, and sometimes from a 1920s Mafia movie. Its not an error, it's a DLC.

I had a GSG Kalishnakov .22 (one of those dressed up guns you talked about) and I got rid of it because it had some annoying mechanical issues. The design of the bolt carrier had two springs, which caused an issue with feeding after only a magazine was shot through it. The gun itself was complicated to take down and clean, and it was just heavy as hell for a .22lr rifle. I got sick of dealing with it and sold it. I bought a Ruger bolt action .22 to replace it (and haven't regretted it since). After learning about the feed issues with .22lr, I have resolved to only get bolt action, lever action or revolver .22s. That conversion kit makes the GSG look like a high quality firearm.

The Smith and Wesson m&p 15 mags work amazing

In this case, "Semi-Auto" means that it's sometimes Full-Auto, sometimes Bolt-Action.
