Holy cow, girl! You have so much personality, so fun and exuberant (I smiled throughout the whole episode)! What you bring to the knitting podcast world is second to none! And perhaps unknowingly, you have raised the bar for all podcasters. Thank you so much for all the effort you've invested in this, and all your videos for our benefit. So much of what I saw is very exciting and I look forward to seeing knitwear designers level up their game. I always look forward to your videos, keep 'em coming! BTW, love the yellows--super dreamy!!!!

I absolutely agree with raising the bar for Podcasters also, she really had knowledge and whenever she’s talking, I said, yes, I’ve seen that I heard of that she’s not making it up or bringing something that we never heard of or never seen. I absolutely agree with her her personality is unmatchable and I’m really lucky that I found her since the beginning.

NO MO MOHAIR! If others love mohair, GO FOR IT! I am so looking forward to new patterns that do not combine whatever with a strand of mohair or suri or fuzz of any kind. I live in a warm climate, my skin will not tolerate mohair and I have yet to find a combination of yarns that will make a Lento without including fuzz. I feel like I'm barred from so many patterns because of the fuzz. Love the podcast! You do a great job with it! Don't think I don't notice all the work you put into it. It shows!

Yes! Agree 100%! I hate mohair. I dislike that so many dyers are selling mohair or suri alpaca combos instead of actual laceweight yarns. I knit a lot of shawls and it's hard to find 800+ yards of a nice merino silk blend.

Ugh. Just ordered some mohair to hold double for a poncho 😢. I live in an area that rarely gets cold. I like the look of the photos I’ve seen with the mohair but that won’t matter if it’s miserable to wear. Thank you for your comments it’s helped me decide to just make it without the mohair.

While I do love a great "mohair-held-double-with" moment....I'm so in your camp. I was searching on Rav the other day and found myself wishing I knew how to tell Mr. Search Engine that I didn't want to hold mohair double with anything!! I love the head-to-toe knitwear idea. I've knit a couple dresses, but I think I'd love to tackle separates!

The colorwork you’re describing is called intarsia. Larger color works large blocks of color etc, whereas the circular yoke style is called fairisle with smaller colorwork. Although Sari Nordlund’s Lummé is fairisle style even though it is two colors.

Personally I dislike wearing yellow, so that one won't be for me, but I'm so excited to see more texture and colorwork in the knit world! I think many of us are tired of the baggy beige sweaters that have been dominating the knitting community the last few years. I'm currently knitting a cable sweater in a peachy pink and I'd also love to make a basketweave sweater or cardigan this year!

Without even knowing it, I’ve hopped on this bandwagon! I’m making the Cotton Candy by Karen Altabef. It has a mohair yoke and sleeve edgings. But only because I had a lot left from the Pink Velvet sweater and a small amount of fingering and this pattern accommodated both.

Lovely ideas! Now l need some buttercream banana creamy yarn . . . Hmm, milkshake! I have started the Mandala sweater (free!) With some yarn l got for my birthday. Bless her, my mum went back first to switch out a high contrast that l was never likely to wear, then again once l had chosen the pattern, then we went back together a third time because she seems to forget that l am plus size now . . . Anyway, that will tick off the low contrast colourwork trend! I am also approaching the end of an expanding rib, top-down circular yoke, sweater that l started designing for a new knitter at my craft group. Just 1x1 rib at the collar and adding another knit stitch to every repeat every 6 rows (or 8 or 4 l figure for larger or smaller sizes) until it is large enough and then keeping that broad rib pattern down the torso and down the sleeves. Decreasing the sleeve cuffs rapidly at the very end for a balloon sleeve.

Thank you, Nora, there is so much inspiration in your video! I've seen many podcasts for "Everything I knit in 2023", where a theme of no more mohair will be their personal choice this year. Many have found the garments uncomfortable and gave them away or have tired of the fuzz factor. Marling has been one of my favorite Blanket/afghan techniques this year, finding complementary colors and texture very satisfying. I am eager to try this with a cardigan as my final winter project. I'm excited to see what other fun out-of-the-box ideas you have for us coming up!

Yes I am with you in order of preference from 1 to 5 because the only lemon sorbet I want is in my tummy not on my tummy but I am here for the all over knit look! I've only just grumble grumbled about stoopid mohair costing sooo much and bought some and then no mo mohair! But yay you found a use for it in the sheer fabric trend so I was really gathering speed. What do I not want to see on my body? A bonnet! That is my line in the sand. Full monochromatic neck to toe knit garments - yes. Top to toe - nope!

I always really enjoy your videos, Nora! You have such a fun and friendly presence on camera. This was a really great, inspirational video and I think I want to play with some "marling" in at least one of my knits this year. Just an important point that I sincerely hope you'll take in the gentle spirit in which it's meant. As a viewer who is living with chronic illness & disability, I hope going forward you might reconsider referring to this time period as post pandemic (ie. how you said both "moving on from the pandemic" and "coming out of the pandemic" in this video). I know most people have moved on but the reality is that the pandemic isn't over (cases are extremely high in both the US & Canada where I am) and high risk folks such as myself are still very much at risk, wearing N95s, and sheltering at home because unfortunately most people aren't taking precautions anymore. Words are powerful and people look up to you and so I hope you'll try to use language that doesn't further perpetuate the notion that everyone has moved on and that the risk is over. Thanks for considering this, Nora. 💜

I have been experimenting with marking using the Melange sweater by Petite knit. I have knit four of them so far using different wool combinations each time with varying results and some clear winners. I have used the same bare undied 100% wool with each sweater. And I have held it with a typical merino 80/20 nylon sock yarn, a merino cashmere silk sock, a Corriedale nylon sock yarn, and an alpaca fingering. My favorite feel is the merino cashmere nylon. The drape is amazing. It’s a heavy sweater because of the make up though, it literally weighs the most of all of them, and takes five years to dry. my second favorite is the merino sock. It is a very warm and absorbent fabric that feels great on the skin. Dries quickly and it’s a great addition to the fall and winter wardrobe. The alpaca is great but it is too warm. I get uncomfortable quick. Might be too much alpaca to wool ratio. And the corriedale nylon sock one is rustic haha too rustic I think for a skin touching sweater even with the other strand of wool. It’s does bloom nicely still but it’s rough on me, so I don’t wear it as much though it does look amazing. This one will probably last the longest and it has the least pilling. The alpaca one peels. Has anyone else tried this ?

I have a finished room in my basement where I keep my yarn, so when i go down and come back up with n arm of yarn, my husband says " I see you went to the yarn store😂😂" ( he calls the basement yarn room my yarn store lol) I'm so looking forward to seeing what you will have on your needles this year! Thanks for sharing! I just completed a yellow sweater to wear to VKL in NYC. I used KnitPicks Palette held double in the color custard along with a strand of mohair from La Bien Aimee in the color vintage grellow. I love it! I am a marler and have made several sweaters marling for color and texture. I just love to knit all kinds of things. I am not sure I would knit a whole outfit though... I know for sure that mohair will always be a part of my knitting because it offers so many possibilities.

I've never been a fan of mohair, but I really love suri alpaca and silk in place of the mohair. That said, I rarely use it because I live in Texas. It was already 75 degrees fahrenheit this week and it's still January. I do have a plan to knit a shawl holding a fingering wool, a mohair, and a sequined yarn together.

If only there were more time in the day I would be all over the knitwear all over trend. I recently popped Hanne Rimmen’s N O R D Suit into my Ravelry favorites. It would be luxurious knit in cashmere. I’ve got a bunch of single or partial skeins of silk mohair and I’m thinking of using it to embroider or do some visible mending on other knits - especially thrifted or fast fashion garments that my kids have accumulated.

It's so funny you say that about mohair - as a new knitter, for my first sweater I chose a brushed suri alpaca silk to hold with the wool fingering instead of the mohair the pattern called for. I did this based on all the comments I was hearing from folks about the warmth/itchiness mohair in their "what I knit in 2023" projects! So far it is soft & lovely without the itch factor

Absolutely love your podcast and insights! I’ve definitely seen some of these trends emerge in the fiber world over the last couple yrs and I wonder if it’s actually influencing fashion and runway instead of the other way around? Full length dresses, knit fits (I’m wearing one in my profile pic), knit skirts, and knit loungewear have been big over the last few yrs! Marling and scrap busting were big a few yrs ago and I think you’re head on with that trend coming back around. I’m so over mohair and love the pieces that I’ve made, but ready to go back to holding a single strand of yarn san fuzz! I’m looking forward to knitting garments just using wool or silk lace weight yarn and having a sheer and airy texture. So much more comfortable in my warmer climate!
