I prefer longer video content over short blasts. I realize everyone has to sort of conform to what they feel is relevant and in the world of technology, it seems as though change is the name of the game.

Yea, short form content makes me just feel scattered after watching a bunch back to back, I'd rather just unplug and go do something else, which is what I've been doing across the board. I deleted insta and FB and twitter, I was never on tik tok, really only YT and reddit were my final social media outlets and maybe the era is just coming to an end. I have my routines where I decompress each saturday morning and get caught up on my long form channels with my morning coffee or while doing my weekly manicure or whatnot. Or like today I'm taking a work break (I work from home) and look to see if any of my favorites made an upload. I think it sucks that the platform itself is what's pushing the switch, I've heard this comment from other youtubers that youtube itself is pushing people in that direction. Like would we be going into short form if YT wasn't meddling? Hmmmm.

I agree! I put on a video while I do my skin care for example. I don’t want to be endlessly scrolling, I want a video with real content. I find the long form much more informative and interesting.

I'm not retired yet (I'll be eligible for early-out in 3 years, the countdown begins bay-bee!!) but I like long form content, too. I get it that things evolve, that's fine, I'll still support Shelbey, but I find my viewing has trended more towards documentary channels BECAUSE so many beauty yters are going short form.

I hate the 1-minute trend. This is how it was when we started our YT channel. Then they went long form, and now they are all about shorts again. Reels and shorts are for squirrels with no attention span. Long form is the way to go. And I love this channel. Got a lot of great tips from Shelbey!

I love long-form content! I never want to get stuck scrolling thru shorts because I feel horrible after and learn nothing. I watch KZread almost exclusively because of the talent and advice from creators like you 💗 so thank you for all the time you put into your work!

Hi Shelbey. I’m over here watching 25-60min videos daily. I do enjoy shorts but it’s not enough for me. I wanna see how a creator uses a product even if it’s not makeup. Chatty GRWM, in depth reviews & monthly hits/misses are my fav. But I do understand you going with what the majority wants, posting on multiple platforms, & family life. I’ve always been an oddball. Same! I LOOOOOVE the long form and 25-60 min videos. I can always listen to them when I'm busy doing other things and don't have time to sit and scroll through short form content. I feel like short form can consume more time and definitely my hand usage. 😂😂😂

I think that’s the point - consuming more of our time by creating an addiction of sorts. Not good.

I love the longer form, mainly because you give us so much more useful information. You’ve been my favorite make up artist, I appreciate you including everyone’s skin type, a more natural look that I appreciate. I can’t get behind Glines whose face looks expertly applied covering the tiniest flaw to the point it looks fake. Nothing against anyone who prefers her looks, she’s a beautiful young lady. I still prefer longer videos (10-20mins) over short content. I’ll pop up a video and have it going while I’m doing something (work, dishes, laundry, getting ready) and follow along during the day. In the evenings, I’ll sit down and watch a longer video to decompress and relax. The short content doesn’t really allow me to turn off my brain. I really prefer more information about the videos topic. If it’s a beauty related video, I want to see it in action (swatched, demoed) and I want to know if it’s worth my time/money. In a world of over consumerism, I trust your opinions on what products are really standing out, what will help simplify my xyz routine, and what to skip. While the “clean girl” aesthetic has been popular amongst creators, no one does it quite like you. You have mastered the “we all are just trying to look our best while doing the least” look and it’s inspiring to know that beauty can be that. I’ve followed you since your Bare Minerals days and you quickly rose to the top of my creators lists. I really hope you stick around and find what works for you in this crazy world. ♥️

I watch KZread and have it on while getting ready in the morning. During my lunch break and while washing dishes so I watch/ listen to a lot of content where i don't have the time to sit down and flip through tiktok.

I prefer longer form content and really appreciated your videos that showed techniques and applications. I think you're a really talented makeup artist and I hope that piece isn't going away. 😢

I understand, but I am old school and love watching longer You Tube videos. I refuse to use Instagram or any other social media platforms. I just don't feel that this obsession with all these platforms does anything good for our kids or society in general. Sorry, but I will look forward to whatever you post on You Tube.

Personally, I do not look at my cell phone after 7:00 PM and do not sleep with it in my room. Every night I watch You Tube videos to unwind and decompress. Long form content is still my preference and I LOVE yours.

I just commented on someone’s question about how you can buy a lot of makeup, and still have all the wrinkles showing in your face. The best thing is seeing a professional makeup artist go through her decision making process for what look she wants, the makeup choices AND APPLICATION (make the wrinkles go away!)Also, I like to watch videos a couple of times because I miss things. But I love your channel and would love to just see more content.

I like longer videos. I watch them almost daily, when I take my time to rest and relax, so I actually look forward to them. If I preferred shorter content I wouldn't be on KZread, I would go to other platforms. I get that audience change over time and you must do what's best for your business, but it's kind of disappointing to see a lot of creators change their content because of what's trendy at the moment.

MOB Beauty was a standout for me as well in 2023! I love longform content and as someone with a disability who is often stuck in bed, i find it to be such a comfort and a distraction from whats happening with my body. Dont know how i missed the announcement about your brand, but i cant wait to hear more about it! Ill certainly miss kicking it with you, but i understand that you need to make changes. Hi Shelby! I watch most of your content on KZread, I come here for the longer format. But you have to do what you have to do to stay relevant and moreover- balance your life. I watch KZread videos as an escape from the mind-numbingness of insta reels. Short-form can tend to be vapid. I don't even use tiktok for several reasons, but mainly because I do not need more short form. Instagram is very time-consuming, mostly unintentionally. When I open KZread, it is for a purpose, to see meaningful content from my favorite creators, which you are one of. ❤ I understand that you gotta do you, and I'll miss ya.

I feel like short form is “whats hot” and your long form is so information based which is incredibly helpful, especially with makeup and different skin types and preferences.

I don’t know if preferences are age related but I’m over 60 and prefer longer videos. I have the attention span and the time. I’m not on other platforms. That’s my way of limiting how much time I spend on social media. So I hope you continue to produce some. Thank you for all the work you do. It’s a pleasure to watch you.

Ditto! The trend is toward younger viewers; I’m sure. If they could break down purchases from age groups who purchase from KZread videos, older viewers’ purchasing power would be strong. I’m not on TikTok and almost always cross reference interesting items I see on IG against long form videos. I’m totally the opposite of everything you say is trending, Shelbey!

I prefer long form content too. I like the detailed reviews and watching how a look comes together. 15+ minutes is a good amount. Oh well.

I will watch long content but I'm older and my responsibilities are far less than when my family was younger. I didn't even get into KZread until I was in my early 40s when I retired. I'll watch anything you put out.

I 100% prefer long form videos. I have never watched a short in my life and honestly I have no desire to. I enjoy watching longer videos while I’m getting ready in the morning and while I’m doing dishes, etc. so I would hate to see this disappear!

I love mob beauty! The highlight balm is so pretty on the eyes, one and done eyeshadow. I still watch long form content. I also find myself watching shorts since that is what YT is promoting, so I'll go searching for the long form.

Long form content is easier for me to listen to on my Bluetooth earbuds as I’m hopping around doing stuff without necessarily looking at my phone the whole time. The shorts just play over and over so I can’t actually put my phone down and let it play. So I love round up videos. Maybe introduce a new series entirely to shake things up.

I prefer longer content.... I think it is more educational and provides more context. I don't have TikTok and refused to get it. At one point I started watching shorts on YT and IG and noticed that my attention span was being affected, I didn't feel well and I wasted more time watching short form content. I always look forward to your videos and appreciate the hard work!

I prefer the long form videos much more than Insta. Love getting ready in the mornings with my favorite KZreadrs. Part of me feels like the content platforms and their algorithms are pushing things towards short form more than long form and not it’s not necessarily the actual viewers’ preference. Will look forward to your KZread videos however often you post.

Hi Shelbey. I love your videos, you have a style of delivery that is rare among YT beauty presenters and suits my UK preferences down to the ground! I never miss any of your posts. I even watch your Shorts, but they don't have the same effect. In common with all one-minute uploads they lack the space required to convey educational content. I truly believe YT will learn this to their cost in the long run. In the meantime I plan to stick with you as long as you are around. Btw, I don't have Instagram or TikTok.

I don't think 15 minute you tube videos are long at all and everyone I watch is still doing them, and longer, which I often wish they'd split into two videos. Short blasts are good for one review, but I enjoy the Best Serums, etc. which necessitate longer form videos. I don't think people are gravitating to short blast reviews at all. At least not the influencers that I watch. That being said, you should do what you want and what you feel you have time for.

I have really enjoyed your long form! I am also a mom to a young one though so I’ve had less time to devote. Now, I have a curated list of long form (usually 1 video a day). It feels so much more personal to me but I understand needing to do what works for you and your family! I would take an irregular upload schedule with something you’re excited to talk about over consistency.

I don't know if I *should* be watching long form videos, but I definitely do! LOL. I prefer them. I also really like that you show what you are doing and what the products look like for an adequate amount of time. I know on IG you can pause video images to look at things, but why force people to do that?? Not going to name names, but I want to actually have a moment to process the beautiful images people are showing me. Also, I have been looking for a long wear lip product lately, and I would love to see something about that, or maybe just feature the best wearing ones you already use. Lip stain, long-wear lipliner, etc. I love the colors you demo for us, but I don't want to be looking in a mirror every ten minutes.

I much prefer long form content. 10-15 min videos are just about perfect, though, i definitely watch longer ones like this video too! I am not on TikTok at all. It's probably just my age lol😅. My favorite videos of yours are the top 5/10's, monthly favorites, best of, as well as technique based ones (like the how to use mineral powder foundation one from way back when!). I prefer long for content but I understand making the switch. I scroll right passed shorts on KZread and I’m not a fan of reels either. I prefer actually getting the information instead of a 1 minute cut.

I love your videos. I don’t watch tick tock or use instagram at all. I only watch KZread and only rarely watch the shorts. Longer videos are basically all I watch. I understand that’s not how a lot of people feel these days, so your transition makes a lot of sense. I’ve certainly noticed a lot of content creators backing off posting long content, which makes me sad, but then I just look for other channels to replace it.

Also, wanted to add this…short form might show what people like and are using, but doesn’t allow the time to explain why. Without going into detail about a product I have no reason to purchase or consider it. That feels more like just being straight up influenced. I watch these videos to learn something or gather information. Like you, I have dry sensitive skin, and I need a lot of information as I can’t just buy what everyone else is using because it’s the new thing.

I have to say I’ve been so busy that I catch here and there those influencers I subscribe to. I find YT so distracting and crowded that I miss the people I normally watch, I feel like how you feel about commercials. It makes me not want to open my YT or IG. This is the first video I’ve seen of yours in a long while and I want to try so many of the products you mentioned. So good luck with your new ventures.

Glad to see you and that you're feeling better! I do like long form so I can capture the info that I need - but not tooo looong, if you know what I mean. And the really short ones are challenging because they go so fast I miss most of the details. You're right, I usually won't finish most longer vids these days; my time slots are smaller than they used to be. And we all seem to have no attention span now What's a good middle ground? Short form contents are like fast food: they feel good about minute and then you feel hungry/empty again. Love good old youtube, and esp. creators like you, Shelbey ❤ And always love to hear your faves! I only wonder, how you can use Phycisian F concealer, which really has very high fragrance content, but not ND, which only has fragrance at least on inci list..? W my super sensitive skin couldn’t agree more, how unneccessary fragrances are in face products! Gladly my skin & eyes tolerate ND well though.

I hear you about the short form content. I personally dont watch these on youtube. If I want short form content I go to IG or Tiktok. I feel sad that YT is prioritizing them and youtubers feel the need/pressure to convert their content to 1 minute videos. I will watch your longer videos when they show up but I (personally) am not down for shorts, sadly (and this is not about yours only, in general). Please dont stop the longer format.

I've heard that KZread is pushing Shorts, which is too bad. I very very rarely click on a Short. I don't feel like I can get any meaningful information from Shorts. But, I completely understand that you kind of need to go with the flow.

I’m not a fan of the shorts, but I have the time to watch long form. I really avoided shorts at first however I’m starting to watch a few here and there. The problem with you tube is the incessant ads! I’m using the free ad free month right now and it’s pretty sweet, but I can’t see spending almost 20 bucks a month to keep it going.

I feel like we are only being offered shorts from most channels. So we have to watch that for information. I prefer a 15-20 minute makeup look video. Yes I make the time . I don’t watch regular Tv. I watch You tube mostly as well as Netflix and AP. I don’t have TickTock. I am on Instagram some. It drives me nuts how fast it is.

I feel like people are turning to short-form content because that's all that creators post now. There's no other option. And I think it's partly manufactured by companies (i.e. KZread) pushing shorts. So we don't necessarily want it-it's all we get lol. But I do still watch these types of videos with my meals (i.e breakfast) because I work from home.
