Interview with my favorite Belgian Malinois Breeder, Tasha from Element Belgians.
Check my online dog training at: robertcabral.com
Tasha and I talk about my favorite breed the Belgian Malinois and what it takes to own one, live with one and train one. From working line to show line to just a pet... What do you need to know about this breed?
Tasha has bred multiple lines of malinois and knows the breed and its characteristics and pitfalls. She is the person who bred my personal dog, Goofy. Everyone knows how much I love Goofy.... so sit back and enjoy the conversation between me and Tasha talking about what we love, The Belgian Malinois.

Holy crap! "I microchip them all in my name"... that's absolutely INCREDIBLE.
Tasha’s dogs are a true joy to be around. Very real, honest and reputable breeder!
I want to give a string of thumbs up. Respect, J.
Wow. That story about the guy bringing the dog back and Tasha’s response was very moving. If every breeder had her heart and integrity.....shelter problem solved! There is so much wrong in the world of dogs and dog breeding; thank you for sharing something so right.
Robert - I know you probably won’t read this since it’s an old video. But thank you for spreading the word of responsibility in dog ownership. Too many dogs die because people don’t make responsible decisions. And unfortunately, with dogs, if you really don’t have to, you can negate your decision and give the dog up. I don’t have the traditional working dog, but I’m a serial pit bull (APBT and mixes) rescuer - on my fourth. And I preach the same thing. Because my preferred breed can (and historically has been) a danger without proper leadership and ownership, including the self admission that, despite how sweet your “pibble” might be, it’s bred to attack dogs. I hate especially the situation of pandemic dogs going to the shelter because people selfishly wanted to get a dog to meet their needs without meeting the dog’s needs. So thank you.

thank you for that. I do try to read all comments
This is giving me tears of joy so much love and respect form the Netherlands
I love it when you have Tasha on! I wish you can get a GSD breeder on as knowledgeable as Tasha but on the german Shepard breed.
It's amazing to me, as a casual pet owner, that there are people out there who really really care about the dogs they create and their well-being. It's really comforting to me that if or when I get a puppy from a breeder that there are breeders out there that care as much about dogs as you two! I won't be getting a malinois since they don't fit my lifestyle, but hopefully I can find a breeder as good as her for another breed!

A good breeder like Tasha is worth their weight in gold. I have waited years to get dogs from really good breeders and I wouldn't do it any other way.

There are other great breeders like her for other breeds. You just have to do your research.. if you're interested in working line German Shepherd I recommend Just K9s or Schrauderhaus. The ladder puts out both High Drive dogs and more pet friendly active dogs. And the former puts out more pet friendly active dogs. But I don't know if you're into Shepherds. They are still high energy and require socialization because they can be dominant protective dogs.
She has a very happy and jolly personality
Funny how everyone likes something different. I have never once spent time around a Malinios and thought gee I want one of those.
My IT factor with Belgian Malinois is their incredibly exceptional level of both mental and emotional intelligence. With the right, dedicated and committed owner, the family relationship with them is literally priceless.
That was a fantastic interview. Great questions, Robert; and Tasha, that girl knows (and loves) her dogs.
When it's said to find a "reputable" breeder, this is what we mean.
She's such a real person. Great interview.
What an incredible woman with such great standards and ethics. We need more Breeders like this. Really enjoyed this very much. So good that she tests and chooses pairings with such care. Brilliant . Thanks Robert. I hope people are taking all this in. : )
Great interview!! She’s awesome! This video made me feel very lucky to have grown up with a camp lejeune “reject” (gun shy) Mal, who -despite her breeding- was a really lovely family dog. Feel just as lucky to have my presently 2 year old Mal. She’s high drive, LOVES to work, not a big fan of strangers, but so good natured and gentle with our family- and warms up to others with time. I just love this breed. Thanks for all the great vids. Always enjoy your content!
I will say as a person who learned her lesson the hard way and had an accidental litter of puppies that I could not keep all of unfortunately. To this very day I have nightmares about where my puppies might be because not everybody kept in touch with me and some fell off over the years. But I think you either have this burden on your heart or you don't. I myself did keep two puppies and they are accidents but, some very awesome confident dogs with great temperaments and a great overall disposition without being overly fearful or nervous as some pitbull mixes end up. The couple owners that do send update still have always raved about them being so lovable, playful and very easy to train. It probably helped that our female was obtained through a legitimate breeder whom we knew and she is a great dog. At 9 yrs old she is still going very strong but she's got her boys that keep her very busy even though they are grown now. The pic on my bubble is the three of them🥰
That is such a good video. Thanks Robert!
Thanks for posting. I almost got a River puppy many years ago, but my life changed. River and ONeill were my favorite Mals. I had Belgians (Groenendael and Laekenois for 25 years) and now I have 2 Pyr Sheps as my retirement breed. They are more high drive than a Malinois if that's possible. LOL.
We watched the whole thing. I've raised dog all my life and never witnessed anything like a malanois, except maybe a jack russel or cattle dog. They are not for the faint hearted. Love your stuff.
I have a 11 month old male Malinois and I love him. He is very smart and family friendly but also protective. But I agree you have to have this breed a job to do and work with them. My dog live in the house and sleeps in his bed next to my bed. He is crate trained. Very smart dog.
What a great lady, thank you for being honest and straight. Those qualities are hard to find now especially with breeders.
What a truly lovely podcast. Thank you.
Well done you two ! I really enjoyed this video !
Spot on, really hope more people catch on to what your doing. Malinois are a great breed, really sad to see them in shelters when it could've been prevented.
Another great podcast, thank you for sharing.
My bf and me got two puppy malinois. We did our research on the breed and we knew what we were getting ourselves into. We also had 4 other dogs, a pit Bull, a pitbull mastiff mix, Australian kelpie, ling hair chihuahua, and a Great Dane mix. We did get our pups from back yard breeders, I know, I know, I not the best. We found these dogs due to bf’s neighbor who had one. We got our puppies to protect our business and also as pets. We’ve been watching your vids and we know having two puppies from the same litter isn’t a great idea but we are willing to do what it takes to give them the best life they need. We are already working with a trainer who works with police dogs and other working breeds. We have the time and energy to give to these little ones. We also socialize our pups like crazy. Yes maybe that’s not a great idea if they will be “protecting a business” but we want our dogs to be good with our family, friends, children and other dogs, and pets. We have a boy and a girl and they each have such a distinct personalities. It’s really amazing to work with these dogs. We don’t recommend most people to get this breed unless they’re gonna commit their time for the next 10 years plus. We are. 🐶
Great talk, nice to meet Tasha.
I like the question regarding preferred sex for working prospects. I used to always say get a male. But the last few years the malis, gsd I’ve assessed for service work the females are outdoing the males 10/1. I’ve literally just picked up my new 8week old GSD (female) to train up as my personal work dog. I actually found a breeder after months of dealing with liars & bad bred dogs I found a breeder who uses teikerhook lines. (I love these lines)
Another excellent video thank you
We have a malinois mix whom is 10 months old too. She looks like a fox and has tons of energy. We debate getting a pure Mali in a few years. We love this dog.
You are both just amazing guys 💛😊🥂
A women owns a Belgian Milionis in my apartment complex. Very well trained and obedient. I've conversed with her a few times. I think she must spend her entire day caring for the dog. She works from home and it affords her the ability to care for her dog round clock. He's so high strung and intense that he's a headache to just watch. She takes him out 4-5 times a day including a a several mile run with bicycle. I see them in the morning as I'm driving out to work and at 7 am, this dog look like he's on crack cocaine.
Great info and video

Yup, from Lynda Trotter. Incredible breeder, I don't know her personally but I've met a dog she's bred and she's amazing! Brilliant temperament and beautiful structure not to mention everything else!
Sir can you reply? What to do if I didn’t train my gsd for 6 months? I was at high school so mostly I didn’t have time, so is it possible to train her when she’s 6 months old? Do I have a chance?

Please help me, my 4month old Belgian malinois rottweiler eat poop and I try to correct her by pulling the leash but she become crazy and jump up and down. How can I fix this problem? Thanks.

Try training 'leave it' with food first and eventually move on to poop when your dog knows 'leave it' very well.
And it’s a woman This is totally awesome :)
... Hi Goofy's Mom 😎 ...
The Mals are the Pitbull of the Sheperds. So, in the absence of a Mal, my money is on the Pitbull.
I have a Malinois and wanting to have her breed can you recommend someone that as a mail for breeding? I do live in southern Indiana. Thanks you
so what is the point, exactly? Nearly no one ever takes a dog through even 1 basic obedience class. And you have a reputable Malinois breeder as a guest? Think this over and all those dogs you helped in shelters and all those animal handlers you helped. Do NOT talk about Malinois dogs as 'pets' because they are NOT that for most everyone. Police and Military handlers use Malinois, Dutch Shepherds, and similar breeds for specific reasons. Not pets!

I've had five Belgians in my life, never set foot in a training class yet and all five have been model citizens as pets. The breed is an excellent pet for people with active lifestyles and a basic understanding of how to shape a puppy into a good adult.

The point is its my show. Tasha is not selling dogs she is talking about a breed that I love and many others do too. Malinois are not for everyone and neither are shelter dogs. If you watch the show you’ll see it a a great discussion among friends about dogs. My videos are to educate and entertain. People have a choice to watch or tune out. I make videos I like to watch. Simple as that.

@@RobertCabralDogs ... I'm not addressing your guy's comments. I'm addressing the one individual's comment (Douglas H) about how all the breeds of working dogs, are going to meet the standards of being a 'Working' dog. A lot aren't selected by the Military or Law Enforcement to be someone's 'partner'. So then what? The majority of these dogs are going to become a service animal or someone's 'pet'. And these dogs have to be cared for and handled distinctly different from other breeds or like you have said, there're going to end up in a shelter and destroyed... ... about listening, I have an ex that says I don't (I listen to the podcast as I work) ...
