Yo, you should check out Sea of Deprivation - Eco catastrophe. They were a crust band out of AZ who only put out 1 album. Similar vibes but different styles. There whole Catharsis in Disharmony LP is menacing.

I agree about the later "death" albums, very tight musicianship! But I can't help going back to "scream bloody gore", I know its not everyone's favorite, but that was my introduction to "Death" at 17,

LordMetalBlade the Misfits are my favorite band (the Danzig era), but I love so many Michale Graves songs, they're very different. I'm a punk head but Michales melodic, almost whiny singing at times mixed with the heavy guitars from Doyle, American Psycho is almost metal and punk at the same time.

One of my favourite albums is Torn Beyond Reason by Woods of Desolation. It’s very emotional and helped me perfectly translate how I was feeling when I was going through one of the worst patches of my life. I was diagnosed with clinical depression and this album helped me get through it by being a means of expression

Your descriptions about the music and how excited and nerdy you get about the stuff you listen to is just fuckin awesome! Jacob Hartwell start from the first Death album and keep going down the line with Leprosy, Spiritual Healing, etc. It's awesome to see the evolution of the band.

I would honestly say start from the beginning, and go forward from there. That way you can hear how the band evolved over the years. Just be aware that Scream Bloody Gore is a very different beast from Symbolic (don't mistake that as an indictment though, it's a masterpiece of early death metal). It's more brutal and straightforward than the band's later output, and the production is also a bit more lo-fi (not in a bad way though).

Jacob Hartwell​ If you are getting into Death Metal, go with well known bands: Atheist, Autopsy, Benediction, Bolt Thrower, Cannibal Corpse, Carnage, Cryptopsy, Cynic, Darkthrone(1st album is Death Metal AKA Soulside Journey, their stuff after that album is black metal), Deicide, Dismember, Edge of Sanity, Entombed, Gorguts, Grave, Immolation, Malevolent Creation, Massacre, Monstrosity, Morbid Angel, Nocturnus, Nihilist, Obituary, Pestilence, Possessed, Sinister, Suffocation, Vader, and Vital Remains. There are many, many more but thats all i can think of.

I fucking love Alice in Chains, they are definitely one of the only, if not the only "grunge" band that is considered Heavy metal.

Really man tomb of the mutilated is the most overrated album of all time I cum blood and Hammer are good but everything else is just eh (this is coming from someone thats favorite band is cannibal corpse)

Death's Symbolic: The album equivalent to having an existential crisis

Something about Sound Of Perseverance makes me feel amazing when i listen to it. Compositions of all songs are great and Chuck sounds like a beast. My personal favorite song of a album is Voice of soul. Even though I'm 14 yo guitarist i understand whole Heavy and Death metal scene.

those are some of my picks also, and i am much older than you, just a testament to how great those records are, and how impeccable your ear is. great job! I may also add Super Heroines- Cry for help , dreaming with the dead from ripping corpse also, krisiuns black force domain, . If you havent heard those, also in thier own league. also mystifiers Goetia and possibly the sextrash - sexual carnage album..., of course theres so many great albums, but if you havent heard any of those, get cracking you wont be disappointed!

whoa, guess i better get crackin! ha..seriously though, i think since you like early crust/hc and metal check out super heroines cry for help, and souls that save..82/83...my pics are the songs convicts/a war to fight/take a trip. they dont get near enough love, and damn great albums! but theres so many over the years, but i would say they are a real stepping stone for death/thrash/deathrock...fantastic
