I've never heard a single good thing about Lexar. Nearly all the photographers in my area swear against it. Always failing. I would get the Sony for a more budget option, and Sandisk if budget is no issue.

The issue with Lexar cards is that at some port of lexar’s production they had a bad set of cards and a good set of cards, but they kept the bad ones in and never gave any label indication on which ones is from the bad batch or not. So it’s always a crap shoot to see which one you will get.

Excellent “real person” review with real issues. Planning for this camera to replace an older cam. Opting for the EF/speed booster adapter and an EF 24-70 II lens. Cheaper than RF lens, and we have a ton of older EF glass too.

Great video! How have you found the auto focus?

My SanDisk Extreme Pro 300MB/s have done fine in my C70 so far. Tested 120fps, all the 4K at various settings. I do get a warning, but that doesn't bother me if the card works.

Great insight, thanks for sharing! I only have Canon L lenses and I have thought about stepping out to try out something else until now. I already have the ginourmous (but stellar in IQ)I 28-70, but I use it mostly for photography and although it looks awesome with video, it is just too impractical and it does not have IS and of course there is the crop factor since it is RF. Therefore, I am considering the sigma 24-70 that you mentioned, it is "relatively" inexpensive AND has IS AND does not weight a ton. I am guessing that auto iris mode does not work with this lens? In any case, not a big deal. Also, love your t-shirt design too, just ordered! Cheers!

Clog 3 BT.709 has it's place. Easier to grade. I'm not sure why they did away with the Clog2 BT.709 Gamut.

dude... great video and love the content. Go with the Sony V90. I have been using them on the C70 for 2 months and it's flawless.

I use Angelbird v90 SD since December 2020 and have never come across any issues.

Trying to convince work to buy us one of these! Looks awesome and love the shirt idea. Thanks for the video and I have noticed that out of the 2 or 3 lexar cards I have bought over the years, they always fail me. Sandisk all the way!

@@JaredKauffman I bought two of the fastest 128GB sandisk cards. Both say "this card is not compatible with the current frame rate or bit rate." This happens in every setting. Do you get this message? I haven't had errors, but it's concerning.

@@ryanbishop3586 They're "V90s" they just don't call them that. The write speed is 260mbps and the read is 300mbps. This is faster than the ProGrade "V90" cards everyone uses.

Hello ! Thanks for that. Can I ask what LUT are you using for Clog3 ? Because the one that I downloaded on Canon website doesn't seems to work well with my Clog3 footage... I have plenty of great Clog2 LUT's but I'm having trouble to find a good Clog3 LUT.. !! Thanks.

Hey, so I spoke with a Canon rep on the phone yesterday about this because I was having the same problem. He pointed me in the direction of which luts to use. I would recommend any of the Cinema Gamut CLog 3 luts. My favorite so far has been DCIP3_DCI_65_FF_Ver.2.0

Angelbird V90 works. Sony Tough should work. The Mb/s specification listed on the card itself can be misleading. Something about: the camera wants a card that can take constant bitrate, but the MB/s number on the card is for variable bit rate. Don't quote me on that.... The Sandisk cards don't have a "V90" designation, so I'm a little suspicious of them.

The Lexar V60 works in all modes except for the highest bitrate in 4k. Much more reliable than V90

Sandisk don`t make V90 Cards. You should get ProGrade V90-work without any issues. Nice Video, thanks.

Can you still see the screen when it's bright outside? There is no viewfinder correct?

I bought 2 of those SD cards and it last 1 minute in a well exposed area and few seconds in low light environment . Now i have to change them both. Thanks for the review

I'm very impressed with the image quality on the C70. I've been shooting with the 1DX mark ii for three years and I'm planning to sell it because I'm never going back. Slightly shorter and a little bit longer than that camera. Weight it pretty similar.

How does the sigma play with the c70 auto focus and would you be able to supply any clog 3 test footage? Cheers!

I can confirm that cheaper prograde V60 cards work for all codecs in 24p.

Also just out of curiosity. Why do you shoot in Log 3 not Log 2 since Log 2 provides the best dynamic range?

CLog 3 is a little easier to work with for documentary and KZread stuff. If I were to be shooting for commercial production where I had more time to spend in post, I would switch to CLog 2

Return those Lexar cards ASAP. I used those in the beginning and immediately returned them after those buffer issues. I’ve been using the ProGrade V90s and they work great!

You can use v60 cards on this camera for 24p modes.

Two situations where not having a LUT on the HDMI out is an issue: (1) if you want to show a client your framing, but want to record log; (2) if you want to output a livestream at the same time, but want to record log. Surely Canon can fix this with a firmware update? Sorts of issues you might (or might not!) get with unsupported EF glass: error in information display; peripeheral illumination/chromatic aberration disabled; autofocus might not be entirely reliable. Some quirks I've noticed with the camera.... (1) no auto ISO in Log mode, and that auto ISO seems to have 800 minimum; (2) it's a pain to quickly do AF tracking -- menu dive to set to continuous focus (you can't set a button to continuous focus), then press another button to activate tracking, then tap screen, then hit another button to start.

It’s convenient to have if you’re shooting in low light. In terms of image quality it’s not all that different. The bokeh does not increase more than what it would look like at the native aperture.

seriously thinking about the c70 as a Bcam for my c500mkii - fits everywhere the c500mkii does not... and the c70 with the adapter gets as a close as a ff camera

Nice video. However one issue with your media commends. You mentioned that people should get the Sandisk SD cards... while I agree that they make the most reliable media out there the issue is that they currently don’t make any v90 SD cards... it may work for most of the formats but for the higher demanding formats like 120fps it may not. Currently most people have had no issues with v90 cards from ProGrade, AngelBird or SONY.

Brian you are correct, Sandisk currently does not make V90 SD cards, I inserted a Sandisk V60 in my C70 and had issues. I currently use AngelBird, and Sony Tough V90's...no issues.

I use the same Lexar V60 256 and it works with zero problems in any mode. There is no Lexar 256 V90, they only have 128GB and that specific card has problems, but V60 is working flawlessly. I've had similar problems with Angelbird V90 128GB, stopping recording and even not being able to format the card.

I've been using Angelbird V60s and those work perfectly with the C70. This camera doesn't really require V90 for anything.

The Sandisk sd cards are also not a good recommendation.

Having the same issue, and those cards were not cheap.

Lack of EVF doesn't bother you? It's been one of my dealbreakers on not buying this camera (among a few other things)

...well done. clean. thumbs up. C-70 arrived end of last week. Could not find faster cards, locally. Chose ProGrade v90/Sony v90, per Amazon. V90 problems? V60s work best? I'll know soon enough. My intent? Shoot a 1ManFlix.com feature film with this "adventure" camera. Thank you.

Do not use sandisk SD cards on this camera! I have and they have warnings on screen that are annoying. Sandisk Cards are rated at v30

Those Lexar cards are junk. We couldn't get them to work with the higher compression on the GH5!

Yah the Lexar's suck, they are not approved afaik. But keep in mind, in general , the rated speeds on the sd card are not relevant to sustained recording speeds. The V90 and V60 refer to the sustained available speeds for recording video, 60 megabytes per second and 90 MB/s respectively. The recording format internally is actually 160 megabita/second, or mbps. In other words, the video recording is writing to the card, for the 160mbps codec at 20 megabytes per second after converting bits to bytes. That's why the V60 card is more than enough for your needs. The V90 cards are recommended for the intra frame 410 Mbps codec or the new raw modes. Where the v60 card might just barely squeek by. Also, the newer firmware did add the same lookup table over the HDMI. The Lexar cards were notorious for not working at all, and since Sandisk doens't make V90 cards I went to ProGrade and it work really well and Canon approves them too. Avoid Lexar, they are the issue, it's not the camera, those cards are just poorly made and no to spec. Also be careful with third party batteries, they aren't tested nearly as well, and usually have way less charge cycles vs the brand name batteries. So you end up buying more down the road when they start to volt down loose capacity.

you didn't figure out yet that the v90 card you bought is a Chinese knock off with a lexar v90 sticker on it ? its probably not even a v30 chip .

No Man. Lexar is not the old Lexar. SanDisk bought them out and everyone knows SanDisk is crap. I use Sony Tough (G) and Angelbird v90 without a hitch. Put the lexar inside of your dslr cams

San Disk doesn't suck, but they've also been really slow to jump on the UHS2 train. Lexar hasn't had a good run for a while now and I wouldn't trust them for any professional work if given the choice. I couldn't find any v90 Sony's when I was in the market so I took gamble on the Pro Master Rugged Cine series - got a set of 128's and 256's, solid cards no issues :) Pro Master is owned by Delkin I believe, they have a killer guarantee on their cards as well and are cheaper than the Sony's.

Never buy Lexar cards. I had 4 of those. All 4 died in a 1-2 months time. With a lot of issues on its way. Any other brand!
