    i live in singapore and own a mutt fat sabbath 2022. if anyone is thinking about buying the bike, you really have to love the bike a lot to do so. It is a forgiving starter bike with constant issues. Do not expect speed then minus slightly more. Since getting it, 1/3 of the time my bike is with the dealer. problems ranging from starting up, constant engine warning light, electrical and sensor issues on top of missing or loose parts and screws. Its not a big problem overall but alot of time wasted and plans affected because of problems with the bike. Its a constant headache that you cant decide if you love or hate. just like a pretty bimbo gf. Maybe its just a small group of us having issues with our mutts. so toss the coin if you like

    I'm looking at one of these myself. I like the look of these and have an extremely local dealer for Mutt bikes and they sell this exact model of bike with a free CBT course as a promotion. Ideally I'd love a Yamaha XSR125, but, they're 2k more on the road. Considering I'd only have it until a full license it seems like a waste of money just to get a few more mph for basically a year. Really, its probably better staying with the slightly lower speeds for safety reasons and saving myself some money. However, I do stay in a hilly location. My target is to get myself on a Triumph Bobber or a Honda Rebel (yep, I love the cruiser style bikes) Thanks for your review. I think were a similar age so, how much was the insurance, etc? Any chance you could do a financial breakdown of all the costs involved, kit, road tax, insurance, even fuel and so on? I know location comes into play when dealing with insurance and the likes and kit cost(s) are wildly preferential, but, it would give me an ok jumping off point. There's maybe some costs I amn't thinking of too. Any experienced bikers feel free to weigh in with advice.

  • @ttxela

    @ttxela

    Жыл бұрын

    I certainly enjoyed owning the Mutt. I'm not sure it was the best financial decision as it basically lost over two thirds of it's value over two years. I didn't really keep any records of the costs but I don't remember any particularly large expenses. I already had all the gear from riding the Super Soco. Have you looked at a secondhand Mutt? There seems a lot about with low miles still in warranty? A free CBT is a reasonable incentive but remember it only really amounts to a couple of hundred quid at most 🤔

    I was looking at a Mastiff from Mutt dealer, the newer ones with the massive tank. For the money it looks great but I might get either the `hilts or an AJS 71 Scrambler. The annoying thing is all those of tightening up this and that, replacing the indicators for better ones, upgrade headlamp to led or just bulb, the electrics. Guess it comes with the territory with these bikes and for a 125 learner, they aren’t that bad. I’ll do dry miles so that will prolong the life at least lol

  • @ttxela

    They are all very similar bikes. I don't regret buying it at all. I think any of the cheaper 125s are going to require a bit of tinkering from time to time. With hindsight though it may have been more economic to buy a Japanese bike secondhand if intending to progress quickly to a full licence 🤔

    There are so many brands basically selling the same bike with the same issues. You'd think at least one of them would over haul the weak components and create a better quality product. I was so close to buying one of the variants of this but quite honestly I think I'll give it a miss and go with a more boring yet more reliable bigger brand but older bike. Im sure I'll be buying into other issues by doing so, but like another comment said, 125cc isn't enough, maybe for us older new riders they should up it to 350cc , because some of those only put out 20 bhp, 5 more than the 125cc ceiling, but at least it'd be something we could own for longer and not be a stop gap purchase to a full licence.

    Chinese parts put together in the UK, I ride a RE Meteor 350 daily and for fun. I was looking at getting a second smaller bike for my wife she passed her A2 licence with me but never ended up getting a bike as she was still very nervous. Last month, she asked if we could get her something. She was convinced a 125cc was a good option despite the fact that I feel they are way more dangerous than a more powerful machine. We went to our local dealership, and he had a couple of these mutt motorcycles in stock. I tested rode one before my wife did and couldn't stand it. Its power delivery just doesn't make any sense, and I found myself having to down shift just to get some poke out of it. Im aware 125cc is a very small engine, but I've ridden other models that feel way faster and safer than this. In the end, we bought her a RE Classic 350, which she adores. Either way, it's a great informative video, my friend. Looks wise. This bike hits the mark on every level. it's a shame mechanically it lacks so much. This bike in a 250cc-300cc would be an amazing machine, and something mutt motorcycles should really consider.

    So, what are the advantages of buying a MUTT branded version of a Chinese 125 versus a Lexmoto, Sinnis etc Chinese 125 ? I know that there are various CNC pieces of metalwork etc on a MUTT and there is the subjective issue of 'looks' . However, MUTT is meant to a brand that fettles a standard 125cc with quality parts and I am sure they do - but - rattling mudguard (design fault), split silencer, broken indicator and a 'floating' ecu are somewhat worrying, the latter particularly so. Plus, if anyone is marketing an up-scaled 125 something like headlamp output is actually a safety issue as well as a quality one. Note: Before anyone says "buy a Japanese 125" do keep in mind that the SUZUKI GSX125 is manufactured in India and the HONDA CBF125F is manufactured in Italy. As an extra note, my SUZUKI Inazuma 250 was made in China.

Next digital clocks decide they want to record ft not miles I just laughed at that. Took fuel tank off to grease all contacts as everything electrical was failing the rust under the fuel tank was unbelievable. Next the front brake started sticking on sorted that then the rear brake started I told mutt I don't want any of their Chinese crp parts so I will sort it out myself, I now have kawasaki and yamaha switches took the old battery from my Hayabusa which fitted the mastiff box.
