Brianna Jones Real talk, at least seventy percent of the World of Warcraft RP characters I see have bios exactly like that. Perfect, handsome.... even the ones that are "sereal cilllers xD" just act the same as all the other ones. For the most part.

Yeah that happens so often and I'm absolutely sick of it. I saw this one OC bio in DA and it's really good doe. The design, personalities, and the entire being of the characters was so *normal*. Also with the fact everything in their bio makes *sense*. What irritated me was that the people in the comments keep saying to make their oc more 'interesting' by adding powers, illness, hecc even completely changing their appearance...

I'm fully aware this video is a joke, but it really pinpoints the inherent problem with most OCs. Most of these don't really have an universe to interact with, or they're just not fitting in because they're too overpowered or they would just shift the already established lore in their favour (Mary Sues). Emojin is the best deconstruction/caricature of OCs I've ever seen. It's even relatable to just hear your soul screaming at the mention of "tragic backstory", and Mary Sues are very common it's actually really pathetic. You know what is missing to actually be a perfect caricature? Absurdly large and near-fetishy age-to-appearance difference, à la "looks like 7 but is actually 65 times the age of the universe". The same thing applies to the "putting your OCs in dire situations" trope. I personally *hate* that and should be used only for novels. You're not living a dire situation every day, why apply this to them? They can have their ups and downs, but their lives shouldn't be a living hell, you sadistic shit. My piece of advice to people who make this kind of OCs, is just: Think about what makes your character the way they are. It doesn't have to revolve about orphanage, or being aided by the God of the 'verse they are supposed to fit in. This kind of OCs are painfully common they end up dull. To come back to the tip: Why would your character be the way they are? Were they a meanie but after they learned a valuable lesson after some smack talk, or, "The Reason You Suck Speech"? Did they become mefiant towards certain people because one of them betrayed them so hard their trust towards this group was shattered? There are infinite possibilities. If you're not sure on what to start, why not take a step back and look at yourself and the way you are? These can be traits. Everything else can be a trait. Everything you can think of. Orphanage and depression are two traits, but they should not be the only ones! A very in-depth writing of the backstory can help. It's really not something you can make in 10 minutes, it can take days, months if not years to write it and be glad with it. I'm not saying I'm exempt from this because I was myself guilty of adhering to these tropes at the beginning, but looking back at it, it was absolutely stupid. Feel free to point fingers at me for I have made a 3300-year old vampire, looking 14, that lost her parents and sought revenge on they who killed her only family. Looking back at this, I'm actually fucking glad I've rewritten everything.

Mary sues are very annoying and they can supposedly "Get Away With Anything". I dont really get that but they are also "Very Strong, Very Pretty, Parents Are Very Nice, Famous, Lost Sister In Car Accident", and also (Insert Sad Backstory). I havent seen one OC that is not perfect *at all* . Im starting to think that the *Non Mary Sue OC Ideas Are Going Out Of State Because Of Too Much Mary Sue's* . All im just trying to say is.... *_Please Do Not Make Every OC Perfect Please_* Thank you for your time.
