Hi Sue, thank you so much for your support. I'm really glad you're enjoying my videos, and it's great to hear your encouraging feedback. I've just published my latest video which is a very messy studio tour, haha!
That is a lot of interesting old stuff.

Just a little hobby of mine 😁
Hi becky, ebay has loads of vintage art stuff, you put in used art supplies
Reeves used to be as big a company as Windsor and Newton and Rowney. Those black boxes were very popular in the fifties and sixties. I have been looking for a good Reeves one with a nice spotted dog logo for ages. The one with the brass label inside the lid is a bit older. I think I must have really wanted one as a child and never got one! They were made for oils and watercolour and also came in tube versions. Finding a good one is hard so I really love your Rowney one! eBay U.K. quite often has nice vintage boxes, and other art supplies. Getting a palette that hasn’t rusted inside is rare though and a lot of them look like they have been dug up from goodness knows where, they are so battered on the outside. But there are good bargains to be had, especially the buy it now ones.

I think I was very lucky to find that Rowney one, as I have never seen anything else like it since! I know Winsor & Newton have some beautiful antique sets which are insanely expensive, haha. I should look on eBay more often too.
Fascinating! 🤘😍🤘
Great collection, thanks for sharing!!
Love the crocodile and the watercolor palette. You should make more videos about vintage stuff. I like them a lot,

I ran out of space in my studio so I've had to pull my head in when looking for vintage supplies. I need to move some things on eventually I think. 😭
Wow! Amazing 👌👌😍😍 I enjoyed to watch your video 💖💖💖

That ink suction system on the Parker pen you can easily replace. Chinese are remaking cheap pens with the same system. Great find! I love that they have history. OMG, love your ink bottle collection 😍

Thanks for the tip! I do actually have a few low-cost Chinese pens, and they're actually pretty good! Very easy to use, and I love that they come with a converter, as a lot of brands make you buy it separately.

And thank you for watching! I hope you're staying safe over there. ❤
I had a Parker pen like that but blue. The little levers on the sides of the other ones there were how you filled the pens - you pull the lever up and it squeezes the bladder thingy inside - if I remember, they didn't really work that well. PS another reason not to use cochineal is because it's made from crushed beetles... (And I just noticed this video is 3 years old so you probably know all this already 😆

Haha yes, but I do remember being horrified when I found out what cochineal was made of, lol. 😂

Im not sure if you are just looking for vintage only stuff but for a good modern watercolor palette the portable painter and whiskey painter ones are good. As for vintage you can search watercolor tin on ebay make sure to select used and you will no doubt find tons of vintage watercolor boxes. Also if I can say when it comes to old fountain pens one of those blue 2 oz bulb ear syringes, some q tips, and some hot water do wonders. Ive actually restored some 14 fountain pens and technical pens just with those alone. Hopefully this helps. It took me quite some time to figure it out. Even better if you can disassemble the pens completely then clean each part and its so much easier that way.

Thank you so much for your suggestions! I'll definitely try that with the fountain pens. I have loads of modern watercolour palettes too, though not the Portable Painter.

You might be able to help me. I've got an old pen that I can't unscrew the nib off of. I don't wanna force it coz it may crack, any advice?
Fellow Melbournite will keep an eye out for you re antique paint sets- ps yep loved the stapler very unique.

I think that the modern Alizarin Crimson (PR83) is the replacement for the Cochineal pigment. Unfortunately it is also fugitive but probably not to the degree of the original. How, your swatch reminded me of Winsor and Newton Permanent Carmine (PV19), which is my favorite cool red and has a higher permanence rating than PR83. If you decide to try it, I would love to hear your thoughts!
@BeckyTregear
Жыл бұрын
Oh yes PR83 is also fugitive - I did a one year lightfast test on a bunch of brands and they all disappeared in the sunlight. Permanent Alizarin Crimson it is! I don't have Permanent Carmine, I might need to check that out!

I love this. you have so many of the same interests I do. I am so glad I found your channel. I love everything you found! I collect vintage fountain pens and inks but have never found paint boxes etc. My uncle before passing away used to collect vintage art supplies and had papers and painting boxes that were from the 1700s they were all donated to the US National Gallery of art supplies artist material studies. www.nga.gov/conservation/materials-study-center.html.html his old collection is found here I think you could appreciate it. www.whimsie.com/antique%20art%20supplies.html Though I wish I had even one of those boxes, I am happy they are being preserved for everyone to appreciate. It also gives me a sense to keep searching vintage for gems like you found or that he found.

You found so many cool things I wish more antique places were open... Also the whimsie site has clickable links so you can learn more about each box and what was found in it. It really is cool sometimes I just go through and look at the boxes and think of the owner and that those things survived long long after they were gone. Also you can find some sack/bladder replacements rubber or silicone on etsy for your fountain pens specifically the Parkers and Sheaffer.

Oh WOW what an amazing collection! My dream is to have one of those Winsor and Newton art boxes but I imagine they're rare, hard to find, and probably priceless. I loved seeing all of the other art boxes too. Thank you so much for sharing those links!

@@BeckyTregear I think it is so cool to think of the person that owned the box and made art a part of their life. Also wonder sometimes if they were just gifted and some not used. I love the Barabara box with the paintings in it. I find interesting that there are places trying to preserve the history of art supplies as well. I would love to find a hidden treasure like that as well!

I collect anything to do with the form of writing, so i have dip pens, nibs, ink wells, spare parts, ceramic ink well inserts, desk sets, ink blotter, new packets of vintage new stock powdered ink. I've collected over the years from all sorts of places. I've always enjoyed it, & have no idea why the 'writing' impliments interest me so much. I do also have a love of history, anything & anybody's!
I don't have the confidence to do a video & post it, so my hat goes off to you hun. Well done (I've watched a few of your vids)

Thank you! The hardest part was starting the first video, then it got much easier over time. I am not yet brave enough to livestream though. 😂
those twin & triple glass desk units were used for stamps, & probably paper clips, they had things like that at the post office, not just on people's desks

That's great information, thank you! 💜
i think the 2 parker pens would be more like 1950's (look like my dads) the cartridge looked a fairly standard schaeffer size.
Hey, if you're looking for an idea for next videos: maybe you can make art using only those vintage art materials 😁 for example you can draw or paint one of those vintage bottles 😁 just an idea in case you would be bored someday 😊

After my mom passed, I was going through her art supplies and found a Daniel Smith brush! It looks, maybe. Like hog hair? Not really sure, it's cool though!

Vintage and antique shops quite often have them, and I've also seen them in markets, especially ones where anyone can set up a stall and sell junk from their houses, sheds and garages. Quite a lot of these were bought from a stall where the owner just wanted to get rid of them and he was selling them for $1 each, so I snagged most of them, lol!

Becky, Are you interested in a vintage German glass pallet inica metal case? A friend passed it along to me, but I am more into crafting than painting. Is there a way I can send you a pic?

That sounds really intriguing! If you want to contact me on my email, that's probably the easiest way to do it. Not sure it'll let me write it in the comments, but it's in my video descriptions. 😊
The SpotAll dyes are actually toners to change the look of black and white photos, to make them cooler or warmer. The glass things you call organisers look as though they might have had sponges in them to wet stamps as well as other stuff. The pen and ink stand is lovely.
