I came here to get recommendations on art supplies and got so much more ! I could totally relate to everything you said about sketchbooks . I used to get discouraged when my sketches weren't that great and stop drawing in them . Being older now I realize they are exactly what you said a place for artist to grow and make mistakes . Keep up the great work and I will be on the look out for your manga !

what i do some times to not smear the lead is I put a piece of paper under my drawing hand. That way the oil on my hand won't get onto the paper. Some artists will also use a cotton glove with the fingers cut off. That also helps and looks pretty cool too.

I used to have the same problem with my sketch books (except my book was pretty full but with incomplete drawings) lol. The best thing I did for my work is accept that I wasn't going to be perfect and sort of embrace it. There's no avoiding the awkward stage of bad anatomy, proportions and shading. The sooner you face it head on the sooner you improve and it's already paid dividends in the quality of my work.

I believe that they use pounds because when creating the paper, before they cut it into the size the consumer buys, they have it on rolls. They roll a certain amount onto the roll, but it will weigh differently depending on the thickness of the paper. I saw that on a "how's it made" episode, I believe.

Jetpens is awesome!!! Thats where I get most of my supplies. With the paper, the B4 is referring to the paper size (A4 is about the same size as standard copy paper, but B4 is the standard for manga), and the paper weight is referring to the how much a stack of 500 pieces weigh. Hope that helpsb=D

I pulled out my Sketchbooks today from watching and learning from this video yesterday. I too only have about 15 pages filled up out of 110 sheets in one book. The other book..oh boy...yikes. You are right!!! Thank you for telling us these are sketching book for practice, not to go and jump in thinking each page is a great work of art. Whew...I had a dig a minute to find them both. Thank you for this video and the others too. My people look 100% better using your 7 heads method of drawing. All of mine, too long, fat in areas, yuck in some areas and wow. I have to follow guide lines I see. Thank you again. You do Fantastic work.

Pilot Drafting Ink is water-soluble, so it's very easy to clean. Deleter Black 4 is both waterproof and alcohol-proof. Pilot Drafting Ink does have better flow. I mainly use Speedball Super Black India Ink, though, because it's much cheaper.

The weight of the paper is measured by what it would weigh in a ream--which is about 500 sheets of paper--so--if you would gather about a ream of paper(500 sheets) it would weigh about 110 lbs. It is what printers use when printing. I hope this has helped you in some small way --

You inspire me alot, I remember when I always wanted to write a manga, but my drawing suck and I'd beg my art teacher 2 teach me how to draw(she didn't(she probably couldn't)), so I decided I'll just try to draw characters I know ^×^ I got way better, and now I can almost draw my own. Your videos help, I don't wanna make Manga anymore but a book with a few pocs here n there, and I hope I can learn more so there magnificent!

in the ink way you might want to try the Kuretake Manga Pen ink I used it for a while but I had to stop because I had to start using Copics and would sometimes bleed if you waited slightly too little but I still keep them in handy since it flows so well with it being so dark

You've probably already come by it, but you should check out a water soluble sketch and wash pencil for grey tones.

hey koizu nice video dude, I got a question! I often draw hard/heavy, should I use harder lead or draw softer?..its one of my big problems when sketching/drawing.

what you said at 13:05 made me laugh and also made me change on how i should see sketchbooks, I to thought to myself that i only want good sketches in there but stopped sketching when i had a bad drawings in my sketchbook, thank you for saying that sentence. :)
