Can I use a vz-24 for reenacting or will I need a k98. K98 rn are kinda hard to find and kinda getting more and more expensive

It all depends on what you choose to reenact. Some Kreigsmarine and Luftwaffe units utilized VZ-24's as they were seen as secondary type units. Top of the line K98's may not have been available, as the Heer had top priority. Even early war SS used VZ-24s, due to a whole discussion that's going to be too long for a comment. I highly recommend finding a unit near you that fits the desired impression you want to reenact, which may or may not allow you to use a VZ-24. Your unit will help you do the research and tell you directly what you need. They may even lend you loaner equipment, such as a rifle, for use in the field. If you're like me, I live in a state with no active units. You have to do the research on your own and figure out who was equipped with what. It might require some digging, but the information is abundant. Prices between low end VZ-24s and K98s, such as the two I own, are not as large as you might think. Prices vary from state top state, but expect only a couple hundred dollar difference between the two. Might seem like a lot if you are a younger fella without an income of your own. But if you are an adult, its nothing in the grand scheme of things.

It’s a safe bet to just get yourself a k98 for re-enacting. Most German reenacting groups portray basic infantry or elite infantry units. Save up and spend the extra money and get the right thing the first time ! The bonus in this situation is that a k98 will only go up in value ….and they’re not getting cheaper as time goes by. Do a little searching and maybe make a few connections with reenactors and they may be able to help find you a great deal on a Russian Capture k98 , especially if you’re interested in joining their group.

Ask your unit
