Yes Graeme a spare bung, I remember going to trearddur bay anglesey, with our Dejon 14' Boat (late 70's) Forgot the 3/4 Bsp bung! am not lying,,, we had a bottle of wine, so we opened it up and used the cork ,it worked fine, we had a good lot of fish too. many thanks for bringing back a memory, we had a 35hp Tohatsu engine and a 4.5 crescent.good days. I so loved going to Loch Lomond for pike and Care loch for the sea stuff, what a place IT WAS ! Cheers

Great video, thanks Greame...if you don't mind me offering you a tip, disconnect the fuel supply before switching off and let the engine run until it runs out of fuel, that way the carbs are clear of fuel, otherwise it sits in the carbs and causes them to gum up...which can be costly to have sorted at service time.

Graeme, your approach to solo sea fishing is much as mine used to be (I now live in a land-locked country). A very similar level of preparedness, but then, we are of similar age... One thing that surprised me a little is that you don't have a more 'sophisticated' anchor retrieval system. I fitted out my 18 footer with a bow roller and a couple of rope guides alongside the cabin. The anchor rope was threaded through a large ring attached to a second rope leading back to the rear deck. This allowed me to haul up the anchor from the open deck until the anchor chain length was about 15 feet or so from the surface (markers on the rope!), then I could haul on the second line to the ring and bring the anchor back around the side to the open deck area and lift it out. I never needed to go out onto the foredeck! I found that it reduced my stress level considerably, especially when things started to get a bit choppy and it was time to run for home...

That sounds like the Alderney Ring method with a "lazy line" to get to the anchor rope. I have never been too worried about climbing up the bow .I've always had a healthy respect for the waves and sea so tend to "pull the pin" and go home if it starts to cut up rough.

I think some folk underestimates the amount of space even a small boat takes up, my boat was kept in a boat yard but the boat gear swamped my 12x12 shed, it just seems to accumulate for some reason 😆

You should have put a video up year’s ago on this Graham. I spent 2 days fartin about trying to start my outboard last week. Didn’t have the kill switch on. Lockdown messin with my head. 2 yrs ago my keys flew of the shelf into the Atlantic caught my mobile and got my daughter who had only passed her test to drive 100 mile with the spare key. Totally relaxing this fishing malarkey. Stay safe people

Nice boat. Half cabins are so functional. I put a ball valve before my earmuffs so I can switch on and off the water right at the muffs.

Hi Graeme great video mate! if your boats out of the water for a while and your routinely running the engine its a good idea to remove the fuel line from the tank after a few minutes and let the engine run dry, this stops fuel sitting in the line and the engine and going bad. also when storing your fuel tanks the breather valves should be left open, as the temperature rises and falls the fuel will expand, on a really hot day the fuel can expand to the point of damaging your tank and causing fuel leaks. keep it up pal been enjoying a lot of your videos during this time

No worries,another film scheduled for tomorrow night (Thursday) and the main fishing film loaded today(took all day for some reason) Friday 7pm.Plenty of fish on it.

I would suggest an extra, and larger, bilge pump with a hose attached and battery clips on the wires. If you are taking on water for any reason and the boat pump fails you can put the spare in the bilge hole and the hose over the side to pump the water out. I had a time where both pumps working together kept my boat afloat long enough to get it back on the trailer when it started taking on water.

I would change that padlock on your wheel clamp, you can pick them in about 2 minutes, fit one with a tubular lock barrel for more security. Love watching your fishing adventures.

My boat is blocked in by my car,about 8 feet from my house window with large sensored security lights. They may well pick the lock but they ain't going anywhere if they try to take the boat (Only a trip to A & E if I catch them !!)

Great vid grayham I presume the muffs fell off, why don't you use the flush pipe fitted too the rear of the engine? It normally has a hose lock fitting so it can't fall off and goes direct to the engine so not relying on the impellor pump

Great video Graeme - true that you learn something new every day! I was reading the boat section of an Angling forum recently and folks were talking about 'Muffs' to use with different outboards, so now I know what they are! True what you say about folks with their boat stuck on a mooring or in a boatyard, so handy to have yours at home. Where do you stand with Uncle Boris's easing of the lockdown on Sunday? If we are now allowed to travel, and Fishing has been specifically mentioned as allowed from tomorrow, can you travel with the boat? It was all a bit vague at first! If you can get out, tight lines, stay safe & stay well.

Don't laugh...when I had to help Mike dig out his Saxon house build on his T.A.Outdoors channel I felt exactly like that...its a wonder we didn't dug up the bones of some cave man !!

There are some old films in our vintage playlist where I paid to have VHS tapes converted to digital..Got quite a few on there,Giant Sturgeon and 45lb Salmon from British Columbia, Hammerheads to 5090,Tarpon to 160 and big Lemon sharks from the Florida Keys. a day on Powder fishing for Atlantic Sailfish.Think there is Bigeye Thresher shark from Baja ,California,and Striped Marlin,Roosterfish etc. Certainly something to watch anyway. But for the best of my Big Game fishing I never had a movie camera,jusat stills camera. Shame really as I did a lot of big shark (to 1500lbs) and Blue marlin fishing. Would have been nice to get it on video.

Hi Graeme great video lovely boat set up however a Wilson Flyer 17 with a 60 hp Yam 2 batteries fuel tanks and all you gear etc is too heavy for and unbraked trailer - max weight for unbraked is 750kg this includes the weight of the trailer ... I only mention it as there has been weight testing going on recently

I will probably never own a boat (unless I win the lottery) but it was great to do a tour of yours. It probably all comes naturally to you, but the things you have to think about before you even launch the boat is too much for me. Still it does not stop me enjoying your videos. Hopefully there will be some relaxation on the lockdown in the near future and you and Smith can take us out fishing again. I wonder if you would have to self distance from Smith? As always thanks for posting and you and your family keep well.

I have to say the worry of trailing does take the edge of a fishing day.

Always wanted to know what was inside the Totally Awesome Fishing boat!

I only have a small Yamaha outboard but when l run it at home l always let the motor run dry so the carb is empty. Barrie

I used to work at a marine engineers/boat builders yard and you'd be surprised at how many engines we got in every month that had been trashed because they'd either been run dry on land or they hadn't checked it was pumping water out when they went to sea. Don't get me wrong some of them were fair enough, if your water pump impeller fails when you're several miles out to sea and you need to outrun a storm then that's just the way it goes but the vast majority were just pure negligence.

Graeme. A few videos ago you asked what to do on the first fishing trip when the lockdown is over. If possible can you take Mike with you, just to do a father and son trip? And a thought that should keep you going. As there's been less people about and the animals have been coming back into our cities, just imagine what's going on with the fish.

I know you've used the music in some of your other shows..... but who is it? Whats it called ? It's top !!!!

I'm a bit confused. Shouldn't the emergency switch be around somewhere on your body once you're on the move incase you went over-board? At least then you can swim back to the boat without it disappearing over the horizon! Or am I missing something? 😊 Great show, and you have rekindled my interest in the hobby again Graeme. If i recall it was just plywood,with support battens held with gripfill on the floor and sides and then screwed the ply to the battens.

What kind of boat do you own I'd really love to buy one like that

Are there any fees involved in launching your boat? I am thinking about getting one, but would like to know what is involved. Licensing, insurance, radio, etc. There doesn't seem to be an easy to follow guide online.

Love the boat videos, the best creator on KZread as far as I'm concerned, would you go out as far as you do fishing on your boat in something like what I have got which is a Shetland 498 16.5ft with a Honda 50 on it?

Some people would not bat an eyelid at running 10 miles out in that,but generally with a "buddy boat" for added safety.

Got a brand new yam outboard.Never been used.It won't get me back from 15 miles out at sea as only displacement speed and I would be out of fuel.

Spoke to Phil about 6 weeks ago. I don't think he fishes much nowadays but doubtless keeps in touch with the fishing world. He was the original pioneer of promoting small boat fishing and trailed to Scotland and Ireland after big fish. He also got me into the videos so has a lot to answer for !!!

Cracking bit of kit you got. I’d love to do it, I gotta stick to the shore, I went cod fishing few years ago on small boat, really small, I was so so sea sick I was unable to reel my fish up, any advice on avoiding sea sickness, 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🤮👍

When people are coming fishing on the boat, and ask that question, I always tell them, to eat a jam sandwich, half hour before they get on the boat. It doesn't stop the sea sickness, but it tastes nice on the way down, and not so bad coming back up. Seriously thought, there are lots of tablets, patches and even sea sick glasses, it's what works for you, try it a few more time , you'll be ok. Nice vidio TA, we are still on lockdown 😥

Flush Muffs, Not expensive you can get an oil drum and bolt a plank on it to simulate a transom, hang the outboard off the plank heavy outboard not possible obviously.. 👍

Wayne has the closed cabin with door,I wanted mine open as I can sleep in there by stretching out on the floor. I keep mine at home so there is nothing inside.

I guess you run the engine often enough that you dont need to run the fuel out in the motor prior to long term storage? it all looked pretty organized and shipshape to me .

I don't.It sits on the trailer all the time but I take a bit off pressure off the tyres by jacking it up on axle stands.

@@TAFishing graham so sad to see your selling high sea drifter, i loved watching your trips out and you have inspired me to take on the task of owning my wilson flyer, and its an ongoing rebuild, i would love some advice from the legend himself as to where to launch etc. i am very new to this and finding it an exciting journey so far and learnt allot just by watching your channel, i am from bournemouth where do you recommend me launching my 18 foot flyer?, keep up the videos and look forward to the losses BLEEP BLEEP! It is called a Wilson Flyer. 17-feet long. Don't know if they are still made,but I think they turned them out to about 22 or even 24 feet ?

Fantastic thanks for sharing. Yeah, its a bit of a bastard and we are all treated as though we have Leprosy. Went for a flu shot today and it was like been in a 3rd World country. We (Bottom of Australia) are at least allowed to go to the marine and play on our boats. After swearing off boats at 70yo, I could not help myself when an old classic timber boat came up last week. She is also 70yo and 25ft long. I have not even taken her off the dock. Cheers from Portland Australia.

Superb Boat Safery Check and Briefing You should run it as course for Fishing Clubs and Sailing Club it could called RNLI Totally Awesome Safety Guide... So much good advice on engine checks grab rails anchors spares Trailing.. Much is commonsense but you built up yours over many years and I expect a few near misses. If all boaters sailors fisherman watersports enthusiasts followed your advice e and checks there would be lot less needless callouts to Coastguard RNLI SAR Etc

I think its about the cheapest startup outfit ,I reckon around £17000 to £19000 ?? But depends a lot on engine requirements and electronics. You could pick up a secondhand rig a lot cheaper but I went for new as I travelled miles along the south coast looking at absolute rubbish. With new I at least had a clean history.
