18-30_Dirty Boatyard Days - Building the Perfect Hard Dodger (sailing ZERO)
Ahoy,
Many of you have asked to show how we build our new Hard Dodger. In this episode you'll get the answer to all your questions..
See how we decided on a form!
See how we built it!
See how we love it!
It's the best dodger ever and we couldn't be any happier with it. We actually have no idea how we sailed so long without it..
It changed the way we live on ZERO so much to the better it was totally worth all the effort to create it..
Sit back, relax and enjoy.
Aloha

Dam bro. You are a very good wood worker. Looks amazing. You should do more video's like this only dive deeper into it. Maybe stretch it out over 3-4 or , 5 10:00 min videos. I know I'd be glued to my computer...

You really want me talk about how I cut that board and that? I thought that must be very boring. What kind of information do you miss?
Great to see your latest work done on Zero. I worked as a deck hand and cook in the 80's Red Sea /. Mediterranean on a similar Hudson ketch 50 ft built in 1979. Your videos bring allot of memories back including the swivel stove, which looks to be the original. Keep on Keeping on!
@sailingZERO

Wow that must have been an amazing time back then. Do you remember the boatname?
@milolabrett6549
3 жыл бұрын
@@sailingZERO There was two identical Hudson's that sailed together.I was on Asterix and the other vessel was Idefix. I met up with them in Eilat Israel in their last leg of a 3 year voyage from Hong Kong, the captains were from Marseille.They did diving excursions with mostly French National clients. Our first destination down the Gulf of Aqaba was Sharm El Sheikh, which at the time 1983 was a tiny Navel outpost not really even a village. Amazing diving snorkelling and fishing, a Sinai Peninsula secret destination. Amazing diving snorkelling and fishing, it was a Bedouins paradise which is unrecognizable today from then. We continued through the Suez, which is a very fascinating passage and into the Mediterranean and sailed through out the South Eastern Greek Islands. We were caught in a terrific storm and blew down to Heraklion Crete and then discovered that one of the engine mounts had cracked. So your video on the engine mounts rang Big Bells with me. Your change out is far more superior than the originals. Thank you for your reply, where are you now?

Just beautiful and she has skills with power tools ! Oh Yea ..... dodger looks like it came from the factory, serves many functions. What ever can be done to keep out of the weather is a huge bonus ! Was there a reason you didn't glass the exterior walls and then paint ?
@sailingZERO

Oh yeah she has.. 💪 we used Hydrotek marine grade ply for the walls, that stuff is amazing..then 2 coats epoxy , 2 primer 2 paint. We hope that should do the job for a awhile..

Looks amazing, surprised more sailors don’t get rid of their fabric dodgers. Does it also function as a rain catcher?
@sailingZERO

Yeah I'm wondering the same.. it's build to catch rain as well, yes. But it's not set up. Need to attach a hose to guide it to the tanks.. no need for that at the moment..

That is hard to determine. I never added it up. Out of the belly I would say about 7 to 10k only for material. Add labor if you need..
