    Thank you for sharing your beautiful palette. I really like the fact that you have several different brands. In my main palette I have Daniel Smith, Da Vinci, American Journey and Holbein. I am going to start comparing the different brands to see the best shade that I love, vs being loyal to one or two companies. I love your pinks and violets! Your palette is such beautiful vibrant colors. I am going to have to start watching other videos of yours!

    Thanks so much Tracy! Glad to have you here! Yes, I have found that I have favorites in each brand, and also each brand has special colors, so why limit ourselves? With the basic colors you can go by availability and preference, and then branch out for the special colors :)

    Thank you for sharing! I love all the phthalocyanine pigments including Schmincke Helio Turquoise, (PB16) All Phthalo pigments are pure and clean with superior covering power. They have a very high tinting strength and tend to overwhelm other pigments, but if color strength can be controlled, they make predictable mixed colors. Its interesting to hear why a certain color is not preferred and why or loved and why by other water-colorists. Thank you for sharing your favorites.

    Thanks Renee for watching and commenting! I admit I was very infatuated with the Phthalo colors when I started using watercolors, but as time goes by I find I prefer the more granulating colors that are not so intense. But you are right, they are gorgeous and reliable for mixes. Great info!

    You can make browns, greys, & blacks with complimentary colors. That's the beauty of the color wheel, the rainbow, and the overall light spectrum (which itself does not have any browns, greys, or blacks) bc they can be mixed with the right combination of colors.

I started with pre made palettes and they are fantastic, take your time and pay attention if your needs change, you can always add a couple of new paints slowly. IT's a process!

    I made my own watercolor palette with the Daniel Smith watercolors. It’s been about a week now but they don’t dry. So the paint in the pans is still not hard. Did i do something wrong? The watercolor paints from Schmicke were dry in 24 hours :(

  • @iritlandgraf

    @iritlandgraf

    5 жыл бұрын

    That's quite unusual from my experience, I've had many brands and they all dry within a few days. Perhaps you are using a palette that seals completely? Have the pans been left to dry not in a closed palette?

    sure, it can't hurt. From my experience Daniel Smith are actually one of the brands that dry hard and fast (unlike Sennelier, M. Graham, Schmincke...) but colors and batches can always vary. Sometimes the color separates when you open the tube... Not sure what the issue is, but can't imagine you did anything wrong since it's just squeezing paint out of a tube, and I don't see how one could do that wrong...

  • @ArtWorkOfDR

    @ArtWorkOfDR

    I don't think u did anything wrong Doll I had a few Daniel Smith colors that took a bit longer what I ended up doing was stirring them and then letting them sit longer out in the air if they not dry yet give that a try it might help cuz like she said they sometimes separate and that can cause them not to fully dry

  • @scrapfie2830

    ArtWorkOfDR / DJkittyruby i have stirred the moment i put the paint in the pans. They are a little bit dry but when i feel with my finger i feel that they are still soft. So do i need to stirred again? I use the paint now, i don’t have to wait till they dry? Or am i wrong? Arghhhh...

    I feel weird about it, but I don't mix brands.. at all. There is no practical reason for that, but Daniel doesn't talk to Hans. My Daniel Smith Palette contains only DS colors and same with my Holbein. I don't know why, but I assume that paints made by the same manufacturer will always mix best... and I think they do. Using one brand only usually means that pigment combos for multiple pigment paints will be in better harmony with other paints of the same brand. I know, not rational, but that's how I set up my palettes.
