Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Here we are for another fun swatching video! This week I'm taking you through the Daniel Smith Jean Haines Set, a vivid, saturated collection of yummy colors that will make your heart sing. We're test driving all of these colors as I prepare my paint swatch cards. I'll be comparing them to Winsor and Newton and other Daniel Smith colors in my collection so you can get a good idea of whether or not this is a set you're interested in trying out :)
So sit back, grab a cup of coffee (or tea) and let's get this swatching party started!
Xo
Margot

ABOUT ME
Hi! My name is Margot and I am a professional artist and graphic designer. My parents like to joke that I was born with a paintbrush in hand. I started my career after graduating from the renown Parsons School of Design in New York City and spent over 15 years creating and designing for many of the world's top Fortune 500 brands and companies. My painting journey started as a side project and a creative outlet for me to step away from the computer, go back to my "roots" in fine art and to hone my skills as an illustrator and painter. I started posting some of my work on instagram and the rest is history. My work is inspired by all the things that I am passionate about. Ballet, travel, graphic design, color and finding a world of beauty in all facets of everyday life. I hope you’ll join me in this KZread journey as I take you through all the tips, tricks and trade secrets I’ve gathered throughout the years. I hope I can teach you some of what I know, help you discover your creative voice and I hope you enjoy this Channel!

I love these colors. I think it would be cool if you could do a quick little painting with these colors. Even showing after what you've painted with this palette.
Margot, ifyou're interested, I think that Aussie Red Gold might be inspired by the beautiful desert rock formation Uluru, which is a site that is sacred to the Pitjantjatjara tribe! It's considered one of Australia's most important and famous indigenous sites, surrounded by ancient paintings and caves. I can see why it would inspire this shade, the desert there is so fiery red and gold in addition to the Earthy undertones! Either way, Australia is primarily desert, so this is appropriately outback-inspired!
This is my favorite Daniel smith set too 😻

Right? Isn’t it the best one?? 🤩
I’m from Western Australia and the Jean Haines master set was one of my first Daniel Smith purchases, the Aussie Red Gold surely is aptly named as the soil in Northern western Australia and the Red Centre ( Northern Territory) can be exactly this hue, along with transparent red oxide and Geothite. I now have many Daniel Smith paints as I love the sets they do. Thankyou for a pleasant video show casing their beauty.

Thank you for sharing! Australia is truly a marvelous place with so many different habitats and surroundings! Ps. Love your screen name 🤗 xo!
I LOVE Cascade Green! Mixed with some Phthalo Blue GS it makes the perfect turquoise and it’s amazing when painting seascapes💙
Those are beautiful colours. I would love to see more ballerina painting tutorials.

It really is an all-star collection. There’s no better way to conveniently experience the essence of Daniel Smith than with this set in my opinion 👍
I love all these colors, too, I've been using most of them for many years, but your vibrant descriptions were so fun and beautiful that I want to get them out again and play!

I just purchased my first DS tubes of paint, I can't wait until they get here! I am fairly new to watercolor and I love color!! I know I don't need them, but I seem to have a problem buying all of the pinks and purples that I see and love, when I know I can just mix colors myself! LOL I've learned a lot from you, thank you for your videos!

@@Pointebrush thank you for responding! I got separate tubes from DS and WN. They were supposed to be here today, but they aren't. 😔 I will have lots of fun painting flowers! I love your ballerinas, they are amazing!
The two greens are very similiar, they could have replaced one with a lemon yellow or cerulean.

It is the preference of the artist and what she uses in her paintings! Of all the colors I do use the undersea green the least. So I get what you mean! (But it's her curation)
@Pointebrush
Жыл бұрын
Cascade green I think is very particular. It's a combination of PBr7 and PB15 which is more of a blend between brown oxide and phtalo blue than the coolness of a cerulean. Green apatite on the other hand does something quite interesting in the granulation which a more classic mix wouldn't have. I suppose it depends on what you end up using the greens for and their presence in your painting. Either way, it's always fun to compare and contrast what each has to offer 😉 Happy Painting!!
This is my favorite set!

Mine too! Her choices are *chefs kiss*
I’m Australian and Aussie red gold really does remind me of the outback not that I’ve really been there lol but it also reminds me of Texas from what I’ve seen on movies and stuff ..
They are beautiful but so so expensive. Did you ever try the Ukrainian brand Rosa Gallery? I love their colours very much.
Aussie Red Gold is very beautiful! I believe Art Spectrum was the first to make this particular mix. Daniel Smith then followed suite some time later.

I didn't know that! Thanks for the insight! 👍

@@Pointebrush yeahhh I love every color in it!
Have you ever covered Mission Gold Watercolors or have an opinion on them? I first started out with them and realized the colors are very vibrant. I just wondered what a professional's opinion would be on the 24 piece set and if it's okay to continue practicing with them.
DS are my favorite colors !! I have many of them, and almost 5 from this palette😉 Aussie Red may be a good alternative for an orange, I m searching for a transparent bright and light orange, your advice ( and all advices) will be welcome I have DS pyrrol orange and permanent orange, but I find them a bit opaque even permanent orange, may be to much intense !!!. Glad to have found, and subscribe to your Channel 🙏🙂

@@Pointebrush Hi margot, ( Margot is a french name , I m french😉! ) I have some WN colors, but I didn t thought about them for an Orange. Thank you for this good idea !!
loved this video! I have a question: Out of the pinks, which one is the most lightfast?
@Pointebrush
7 ай бұрын
The quinacridones are the most lightfast. Roman Szmal has some good ones 👍
@americaurbano9794

@@Pointebrush oh yes I watched your unboxing video! Longing to travel to Chile to get those. Nobody imports them to Argentina, where I'm from.
Lovely colours BUT Moonglow is not light-fast, nor is the Opera Pink, and a few others. I wouldn't use titanium as it's toxic.
@Pointebrush
Жыл бұрын
True! I realize I forgot to make a note of that. Personally, I don't steer clear of less lightfast colors if I'm working with a reputable brand because most of my work gets scanned and goes digital for reproduction but it is an entirely personal choice for sure!
Do green apatite and undersea green look similar in person? They did on video
@Pointebrush
Жыл бұрын
Hi Kathy! They are *somewhat* similar, I agree. Green Apatite has a little more yellow to it whereas Undersea green has a murkier, earthy/brown undertone to it. Hope that helps!!
@kathyhackney7950
Жыл бұрын
@@Pointebrush Yeah ok. That's what I saw. Just oddly similar though for such an expensive set. Imo anyway
@Pointebrush
Жыл бұрын
@@kathyhackney7950 I do agree with you! However (and weirdly so), in practice, I feel like they fulfill quite different roles. I see green apatite as being.a substitute for a sap green whereas undersea green allows you to play with more earthy notes (like a green-ey raw umber or something).
I confused that the time stamps didn’t match up with any of the colors you were swatching. Lovely colors though.
