My dad had a 1946 Luscombe from 1967-74 and he sold it to buy a 68 Cessna 150. Brought back nice memories seeing this Luscombe.

Very cool. My great grandpa had a 1946 Luscombe 8a Silvaire. It was donated to the Dakota Territory Air Museum in 2011 where it remains today.

With the 65hp Continental the Luscombe will cruise at 90 mph on a hot humid day and 105+ on a cool morning or evening. If you're flying at a really high density altitude it won't do quite as well.

I had a 1939 8A the 112th one built wing spars marked 113 as I believe they started at 002 All the AD'S were done then I sold it to a father and son who owned a car dealership, they drove from Kansas to the bay area with a trailer to pick it up, I often wonder if they ever finished it and is it still flying

Can you tell me about that propeller? Where did it come from? Who makes it? Is there an STC for it? I can only find a wood prop for it. Thanks!

Man, my first ride! Got my Aviation merit badge in it. The initial condition your 8A was in was the same as I saw 'mine' back in maybe '78. Her wings had been recovered and were in the pilot's open garage in Logan, Utah, next to the best tailtragger ever! IIRC, he died before it was totally done and i don't know what became of her. Unless I'm senile (definite possibility) she was wearing a blue stripe with the 's' in the diamond. Does anyone know why an 'S'? Fun side-by-side sticks and rudders configuration. No flaps and (again, IIRC) the tailwheel was funky. Maybe steerable or castored? I know it was a source of irritation. I wore that plane out with my eyes as a kid and, probably, I wore the pilot, a secondary school shop teacher, out as well.

Hey Papa! The "S" on the cowling is for Silvaire. This one is pretty close to being done! Thank you for the comment and for following along!

Of course!! The 8a Silveraire! So many people ask about that when they see my old picture. I wish that photo had the fuselage-- I would like to do the detective work. Y'know, I don't remember even saying the N number. Not much reason to say it back then-- that plane never had a radio or avionics of any kind! 1960's General Aviation was a simpler thing! I remember doing a very careful 360 just off the runway then lining her up...and smooth application of power. Loved your explanation of what would happen if your airspeed exeeded a certain mach number! Thanks for your channel and your detailed sharing! And thanks for keeping one of coolest but unsung 40's era airplanes flying.

@@theav8rs45 BTW...my first 8a had a metal bulkhead behind the seats. It had, in the same blue of the airplane, a radiating sunrise pattern. I wondered if that was a Luscombe feature or a DIY add-on to maybe heat the cockpit somewhat. The bulkhead had a gauge... I think it was a direct view fuel thing. I haven't seen another Luscombe with that bulkhead.

This ones got the fuel gage in that bulkhead. I'll make sure it add it in the next video.

Yup! Sold it about a year ago! Put a ton of hours on that plane using it for work. I didn't need a four place cross country plane anymore, so off she went! If I need to go cross country, I'll fly the RV.

It is not a Silver Air! It is a Silvaire! You have the name spelled correctly but you pronounce it wrong! And yes I have more than 10,000 hours in a Luscombe 8 Silvaire. Built in 1947. In fact my Father flew a 1948 Cuscomb 8 Silvaire for Magnolia Pipeline, Mobil Oil, over 20,000 hours. That Silvaire is hanging in the Permian Basin Museum in Midland Texas in a static display. Registration number N2645. Look it up. And N2645 is all Aluminum. Including the wing covering. Every inch of the flying surfaces are Aluminum on N2645. While mine is like yours. Fabric covered wings.
