Hello! My biggest tip for meeting new people would be to join clubs and events :D It can feel daunting, but everyone else is probably feeling the same thing as well haha. I'd feel really shy too esp because I'm an introvert, but I challenged myself to just try start talking to ppl first instead of waiting for them to talk to me, and it really works! I also recommend joining some non-tech clubs like cultural clubs, hobby clubs etc because uni in general is a great place to meet all kinds of ppl. All the best! 😊

wow thank you so much for this video. My story is also very similar to yours. I wanted to be a doctor and worked my ass off till my schooling years. But slowly I realised that this is not what I wanted and that I just succumbed to the social pressure. So I decided to apply soft eng and CS in NZ. I was really nervous and watched this video and felt much better and confident. Thank you so much for this and I felt much better. You are such an inspiration!

As a girl who’s going to uni very soon, this video really inspired me !! I was also thinking about going into the healthcare field not long ago, but I realized that it wasn’t something that I wanted. Computer science just seems to be much more interesting for me.

wow so cool video Magdeline, an inspiration to keep studying computer science, but i've got question: I don't see math in your degree syllabus, I assume that all of you have a good level of mathematics when you enter your studies? thx for the video

Thank you! There was Maths in my CS degree syllabus actually, namely Statistics and Calculus, but that was only a couple of papers. For my university, they did not require you to have any specific Maths knowledge before you studied CS, however it definitely helps if you have a strong grasp of basic mathematical concepts. Hello Shashwat, glad you have been finding my content helpful! Apologies for missing your question. I can't speak for other companies / countries, but in my workplace in NZ, I did receive stock options. The amount you get depends on your seniority though.

Hi Magdeline, what are the skills/certifications in your experience that you consider u need to have to get an internship in front-end area? I'm in second year of computer engineer career and I don't know what do I need to have to be an intern in that area :)

Hello! In my experience, it would be good to have a strong foundation in a frontend framework like React, as well as the usual stuff like HTML, CSS, and JS. Additionally, some styling knowledge in TailwindCSS or styled components would be helpful. In terms of communicating with the backend, have a look into REST API and GraphQL. This is not everything, but I think it would be a good starting place :) I hope this helps and all the best with your journey!

If you want a career in Software engineering take a Software engineering degree, however, if you have not yet decided which specialist you want in your future career take a CS degree.

I shared about what I studied in my Computer Science degree which may be different to other universities! We definitely did do maths though, but it wasn't called Calculus 1, 2, and 3. In terms of whether you can be successful without maths, I would say you would need some maths background, but it's not everything.
