Thanks. I haven't seen Jeff's latest video yet and didn't realize I was mentioned. Watching now. Jeff and I seem to think alike 'cause I'm working on a cassette recorder video now myself.

Congrats Chuck on 2000 subscribers and for showing off your original Commodore 64 computer. Like you I've still got my original C64 from BITD. As for the cartridges, I personally prefer the EasyFlash3 over the Kung Fu Flash, however I do like the SD card feature of the Kung Fu Flash.

I find the KFF easier since I can just save downloaded files on the SD card from my PC and load 'em up right away. It runs PRG files and D64s so most of the time I don't even need the SD2IEC. The Easy Flash would be better if I had a PC near my C64 or my C64 near my PC but they are in different rooms.

@@HutchCA agreed, if the EF3 had SD card ability, that would be fantastic. As for PRG and D64 files, I've run both on my EF3. I do think I'll pickup a KFF so I have one in my collection.

Chuck, Glenn here again. Back in the mid 80's I had a computer repair shop in Charlotte called The PC Shop. I did component level repair on Commodiores, Apples, Kaypros, then all things PC compadiable. A word of caution. The C 64 power supplies are potted and over time they overheat, fry the regulator and pass AC rippla to the system board and usually fry some of the RAM IC;s, 4164's as I recall I built some replacement power supplies but then found a vendor who made a nice REPAIRABLE supply at a decent price. I highly recomend rolling a new supply and or find one on the surplus market. That Commodore PS generated a lot of bussiness for me back in the day.

It may not be obvious in this video but watch a few others and you’ll see I never use the original power supply. I’m sure you’re trying to be helpful, but this is common knowledge now.

Congrats on the milestone, and it's great to see your first C64. I was surprised you didn't swap the SID out yourself to save the money; maybe the shop wouldn't just sell you a SID without installing it?

This was before I gained any real skill in electronics. I was still in technical school and I wasn't really sure what the problem was because (IIRC) I could hear sound from one of the pins on the SID by probing but nothing out the connector.

Funny thing is SID chip in there now has a date code of 0687 so it was replaced again. I'm sure I would have done that myself but I have no memory of it.

1986 is good. 1983 was the year MOS Technology had the IC manufacturing process issue that resulted in the so very many dead chips found in C64s these days. Supposedly, it was too much boron in the die passivation layer.

Are you sure that purchase year isn’t 1984? You’d know better but that looks like a ‘4’ 😀

I know I bought it in '86, but yeah, the hand written 6 on that tag is pretty wide. The tag on the 1541 is more legible.
