My Brother's Secrets to a Solid, Spinning Chips that Stop

The hands always lead in the golf swing. This includes chipping the ball. But why does this matter? It's all about maintaining the face angle past impact.
In this video I show you how my brother, Tim Graves, has perfect the low, perfect spinning chip shot that checks after it hits.
About the Single Plane Swing
The Single Plane golf swing is not a quick fix golf technique. It is a system, beginning at address, that simplifies the most important moment of the golf swing - impact.
Starting at address on two planes where the arms hang straight down at address, the Conventional golf swing is complicated. Because the arms are hanging straight down, a conventional golfer must lift the body into impact creating stress on the back.
This upward movement to accommodate the two planes is unnecessary.
The Single Plane Golf swing simplifies the golf swing by eliminating the need for the upward movement by starting and impacting on the same plane.

To find out more about the Single Plane Swing, I have created a "Single Plane Pocket coach" that you can take to the range, or course, and learn the fundamentals of the swing. Find out more about the Pocket Coach here: gravesgolf.com/yt/get-guide

I've been golfing for over a year now and I first started learning from Todd's videos. I had gotten great with chipping based off this video, then took a lesson and the coach got me to do Phil's method which involves immediate breaking of the wrist and higher angles of attack. My chipping has been pretty bad/inconsistent ever since, but I remembered this video and after one watch I'm back to chipping great again! Todd, thank you for being such a great teacher!

Todd I just had a question regarding wedge loft for this technique. Would you recommend using lower lofted wedges for chipping (i.e. 50,52 degree etc as oppose to 60 or 64)? I was putting this into practice today and granted I'm new to this for chipping but it did seem the ball was coming out much nicer (and was also easier to do) with the lower lofted wedges. Or are there further adjustments that need to be made for higher lofted wedges (i.e. Does the ball need to go even further back in the stance?). Many Thanks. Tim

@toddgravesgolf this may be addressed in a different video, but what’s your preference on bounce with your 58° when playing this shot? I understand turf conditions and swing nuances may come into play, but what’s your preference and why? Thanks in advance

Shout out from Sweden. Been practicing the single plane swing for a couple of months. Really enjoy the technique. But I would love to do some training with a Pro. Do you know if there are any Pro's in Sweden or in Europe at all teaching the Single plane swing?

Shoulders square, lower body open slightly including hips and below. Club on the ground behind the ball for a chip. Club and ball centered for a pitch. Both pitch and chip and even putting lower body is open, shoulders are square, club is grounded. Club is only raised off the ground for bunker shots and specialty shots per occasion.

I try to imagine that I need to keep the ball on the face for longer for more spin. I have serious trouble when chipping up slope against the grain. The club digs in.
