"When he hit a golf ball, it was a different sound." 5:23 That's the sound of compression. Good approach angle, face square to path, and significantly, _rate of acceleration_ (not speed). There's a very tiny window where rate of acceleration is highest in any given swing, and Norman matched that spot up with the ball consistently probably better than anyone. The sound he produced alone should be enough to convince any student of the swing there is something to learn from Moe Norman, regardless any other factor.

Thank you for sharing this with us Tri3. I kept looking at the timer hoping it wound not end so soon. I have always asked the same question as to why more players and Pros don't try to emulate Moe. I think Mr Duthie got it right when he said its all about appearances. Everyone wants to look good at setup with little regard for the most important moment in the golf swing : IMPACT. I have always felt Moe is as graceful and elegant at impact as he is ackward and unwieldy at setup and finish. For all other players/swings the opposite is true i.e ackward at impact and gracefull at setup and finish.

Moe Norman's swing was based on movements of the body. As u know, he said vanity is a luxury of fools. Most teachers don't teach what Moe did. They don't understand it -- they can't explain it. That's because it requires you to think deeper beyond what u see. My grandfather taught me a life lesson driving around one day. He asked me what was the most important aspect of the particular home we were looking at. Just like most, I gave the typical answer, which was the vanity. But he said if it were not for the little nails that keep everything together, then it would be just a big pile of wood. Yet here from the road you can't see them. I equated this to my understanding of the golf swing, which allows me to go deeper than just what my eyes see. Because the golf swing is nothing more than a collaboration of movements, the question that should be asked, what causes the body to move? THE HUMAN JOINTS, What move the joints? THE MUSCLES What control the muscles? THE BRAIN. Every move Moe made was based on a sequence of motion. 20 plus years of studying the swing and only 3 years of study on Moe, and it all came together for me. I can say now the reason golfers can't take their swing from the range to the 1st tee is because they try to take a FEEL and the golf swing is a move. Just like walking, a move repeats itself. It is a move that creates the swing and not a swing that creates a move. thank you THE SHADE TREE PRO....AND ALWAYS GOOD GOLFING....

To sum it up, Moe's swing is a kind of one-piece swing as I would like to call it, body rotation is the core movement and arms, hands, and club all go with body rotation, with left foot as the supporting axis of the body rotation.

In fact I did try upper- body-rotate my swing in order to stabilize my feet hoping to increase consistency at impact, the whole experiment was a failure, I lost distance about 20 yards then my whole swing jeopardized, I started to shoot 100, where my average is below 90. I only recently rebuilt my swing based one piece swing principle, last week I was happy to shoot 84.

Moreover because of my deeper studies their is not a golf swing that I can't explain I study why it works. As I tell people, I studied the WHY'S which make the How's much easier. THE FEELING OF GREATNESS part 2 last month it all clicked. and everyday it gets better and better without much thought....
