My boyfriend tries shaokao (Chinese BBQ) for the FIRST TIME!
Ойын-сауық
Can you believe Derk has never tried Shaokao before?? Conveniently we are currently living in Dongbei, home to (arguably) the best shaokao, so we simply walked out our front door and ate some delicious BBQ!!!

when he says "can u explain before i make this deal with you" with his German accent...he suddenly looked very serious and was like a German business man on a work trip for a business contract in China, haha. he is freaking CUTE!
I have a feeling that when Derk tries the fermented mung bean juice, he will wish that he had the BBQ pig trotter instead. 🙂

Amy is probably the bravest foreigner I've seen in terms of dealing with unusual Chinese food.😂 Go go go, girl!👊
The way Amy looks at those trotters and the moment she realised the real purpose of the bread is to wrap meat with, you can tell she’s pure Chinese on the inside just with an australian accent.

LMAO the way derk tries to go along with amy speaking chinese and talking about all these new chinese dishes. love ur channel
From the Turkish perspective of view the way Derk eating gua zi is very professional. Roasted sunflower and pumpkin seeds are very popular snacks in Turkey. In my opinion while consuming that food the cracking noise which comes from the roasted seed makes it very therapeutic and you may find yourself lost in thoughts while cracking and eating process going on.

This channel is that side of KZread where it's just endless positive vibes. Love it.
Derk is the perfect bf for you, Amy. Very glad to see you two together in a food adventure video.
My goodness if you two aren’t the cutest couple ever to show us Chinese cuisine. Loved every moment of the banter and looking forward to your next video❤️
Amy is a curious and adventurous girl, love her sweet personality too. Most Germans are very conservative and won't eat what they don't know and like to eat and order it for life. My husband also loves Chinese BBQ the most. I once tricked him into eating a brain and I waited until he had finished eating before telling him the truth, he turned pale and said "I thought it was tofu! Then i said " Du hast mehr Gehirn im Magen als im Kopf"!

I saw such a wonderful food adventure from two Loving people from different parts of the world enjoying some authentic Chinese food! A beautiful scene and harmonious atmosphere in a restaurant! Nothing better you can ask for! 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
Always feels so cozy and homesick (the good kind of homesick) and really hungry when I watch Amy’s videos!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Gotta love your BF, he didn't even hesitate when you told him bugs on the menu. He just said "Great! Let's go for it!!" LOL
I think Amy and Derk are a lovely couple and it is fun watching their travels in search of local foods. I will say that Amy is more food adventurous than I and I'm guessing many others here too 😄❤️ PS congratulations on finding your house and may it be a happy loving home ❤️
You two are so loving towards each other! I hope your relationship stays strong and happy. Wish you two the best!
thanks for showing us what we may never see in person I really admire the adventurous spirit you show. It's a lovely personality that draws people to your channel and to China
Amy, I love your channel! Seeing China through your eyes is endlessly exciting and inspiring-and I’m saying this as an ethnic Chinese! Lucky for us, your family and Derk are just as endearing and comfortable in front of the camera as you so having them as your guests is always a treat to watch.
Heyyyyy amy how r you??? It feels so good to see you and your man reconciled once again I can really understand the difficulties of long distance relationships but I am so proud and motivated to see you guys making it work😍
Thanks Amy and Derk for a great vlog! I have to say Derk is quite a natural infront of the camera - such nice lovely banter between the 2 of you, you are both adorable! Can’t wait for the next adventure 😍
"The potato is a potato" -Blondie in China, 2022 🤣🤣🤣
Great video as always Blondie! Derk is very easygoing and funny, great to see his addition to the videos 🙏🏻 I’ll have to say that as a Dutch person Derks first reaction to some of the more unusual (for us) foods is very recognisable! First time I had cold noodles I couldn’t get over the temperature either, now I love them. Maybe in time!
Did not expect to like Derk so much in your videos, but it is SO enjoyable to watch him try new foods!
Amy! Dirk is holding you back!😂😂his awkwardness with food is hard to watch! Your understanding of the noodles is amazing, it is the yin to all the yang bbq foods you had and it is a perfect dish with it.

Yayayyy so excited for this new video!!
Amy, i am so happy for you. Derk is such a great guy. He is open minded, smart, and has good sense of humor. Best wishes to you two.
As a local Changchunese now studying in Shanghai, I love your video and I watch your video every time you upload which reminds me of home sweet home. No matter how far you travel, no matter how much Fernweh (oppsite of homesick: eager to go far away from home), home is always there waiting for you. I highly recommend you guys to try the most local Dongbei Cuise 王记酱骨头, and be sure to order many local Dongbei dishes such as 锅包肉 and 白肉酸菜 rather than the bones itself.
So incredible, thank you so much for sharing! 🙆♀️
It is joy to watch your vlog. Every time, it reminds me to prepare a tasty meal. Best wishes to both of you.
Super glad to see now Amy has a "sidekick", you guys are so fun 😊, like the vibe and interaction!
You guys are so sweet.. He is a such a great addition to your channel..
Amy has even more energy and happy in these videos, which I didn't think was possible LOL
Congrats on the new home! I can’t wait to see more adventures from the two of you in Beijing!!

I might have to try silk worms when I go to China - you guys actually pitched it quite well 😛. That glimpse of your new home looked so nice. I will be looking forward to your house tour (if you decide to do one). 🙂
hahahah i'm looking forward to watching next video! haha love you Amy
Yet to visit China. Your channel will be my ultimate food guide. Thanks for the entertaining and informative content. A joy to watch 😉
Derk passed the guazi opening test with flying colours! Very impressive! I am terrible at opening guazi hence it is never something I like to eat. Amy you've got a gem of a bf there! So sporting and willing to try anything and everything.
Amazing couple, compliment each other very well in these videos!
Really love your video and welcome to my hometown!!
My favourite thumbnail is when you eat the roast goose! So funny!
the sunflower seed eating speed was pretty good indeed.
love your attitude with trying new kind of food.
you two have a lot in common. best luck to your adventures. regarding the fermented bean juice, caution, it is too challenging I am afraid. there are many other sane foods to try in beijing😂
Hey Amy, I am seeing your video to learn english for common daily topic. Your videos are pretty helpful!

Hi Amy, love your personality, you are my favourite youtuber. I live in the UK and haven't been able to go back to China for last 4 years due to pandemic. Your channel has brought so much joy to my life. I came from lanzhou city, please try some dishes in Lanzhou, you will be amazed too. It's definitely worth a trip to there. Keep up good work! You're amazing!!!
loving this love bird vibe!
You guys look so happy!
Amy you are so brave to try new food and it seems you really liked them, most of the time, and not pretending....
I think around 5:20 is a good lesson on social interactions with foreigners: when they decline, they usually don't use strong words. But they are very much against it. You see any never pushed for him to eat, when he said he doesn't think he could eat that. It is usually in Asian cultures to try to make your guest try all the dishes, and it could make them uncomfortable, if they decline, but you keep pushing them to try and eat something. When they decline, they mean it. Don't keep forcing them☺️

True!! Amy definitely respectful person. Unfortunately not so many asian people understand this. Guess different culture...
You love bunnies ❤❤are making this channel extra fabulous! Cheers from Canada
At first glimpse, I thought Derk is a good actor, he just follow what Amy says and add effects to the vlog, but in the end, I just found every word he said was true.
I was today many years old when I learned that Sunflower Seeds aren't a common snack all over the world. They're *very* common in the US. My preferred method is to hold it between my front teeth lengthwise so that the side edges are pointing up and down and bite down a little to crack open the shell.
Looking forward to the douzhi video already. Nice video Amy.
I’m a northeastern and I can say that your boyfriend is really brave to try some of these for the 1st time. Welcome to Dongbei.
We actually have like pickled conserved pig feet in some regions of Germany but it's definitely a foodstuff that's regional and something you'd think only the older generation eats ^^' same thing with intestine dishes and blood sausage...
Having Derk along with you is so much more fun, because I could get some German perspective of Chinese food. Incidentally, I am (super) struggling with their language haha, so some "revenge" is a must.
Watching your video always makes me happy but jealous at the same time (wanna eat the food too!!!). You are such a joyful couple, keep up the fun and happiness! Schöne Grüße from a Beijingnese aus Frankfurt am Main!
Love you guys from Victoria Australia !!!!!
Thanks for bringing so much positivity coming from China! Trust me...i am a foreigner living in Shanghai, the mood is kinda mehh here. Perhaps is a post lock down effect + Living too long here. Thanks for reminding the joy i had when i first moved to Beijing about 15 years ago.
omg his Gua zi technique is perfect !! like a pro
I hit the like button because I wanted to see the reaction from Derk when he tries Douzhi :D
Derk should be well prepared for trying Douzhi. LOL Fooking forward to the next video.
Sunflower seeds are awesome. Usually, they're salted and/or flavour is added (ie. chilli, etc.). You can chew on them a bit and then crack the husk. They're pretty tasty with only a little bit of work required.
Love you two both in the video! Your boyfriend is so cute!
I can't wait to see if she takes him to eat guo bao rou. Given her high praise for such from previous videos, I've become so intrigued by that dish~

I can trully relate to Derk with trying new food like the pig foot. I'm from Switzerland so food culture is quite similar. But still "Hut ab!" for trying the silk worm I think. I wouldn't even tried that😂 I like your content so much and can't wait to see your next video from Beijing!!!
wow Derk is so brave! for the life of me i just can't do insects and i'm chinese.. :D

I grew up eating silkworms, they are so yummy, my parents would stir fry those with lots of garlic, but make sure you spit out the shells though lol i love your videos they are so fun to watch and reminds me pieces of my childhood growing up in the northeastern part of china!
