I love the idea of a folding workbench that can be easily stored on the wall of a garage. I also like that your designs are a bit better looking and sturdier than most DIY projects. I even think that it was a great idea to sell better quality plans than what we usually find for DIY projects, they should pay for themselves by helping us avoid costly mistakes. Due to life changes I had to give up on all projects (and my tools) for 15 years. I am now starting over and about to re-buy and rebuild my garage workshop and other storage from scratch. Your workbench will be part of it, but it is obvious that I need to build a few other items before tackling them. I am sure someone already asked this, and you might even have a video about it: What is the optimal order of construction, maybe with links to the projects?

Thank you for the kind words and great questions. The optimal order of construction is what you need first in order to start building whatever it is that you will be building. That will be different for everyone. For me, my order of construction was 1) workbench 2) miter saw station 3) foldable work station 4) 2-for-1 tool cart. Then I built the other furniture as needed. If you don’t use the miter saw very much at all, then maybe that project will be further down the list, and if you have a lot of clamps on the ground then maybe the ultimate clamp rack will be higher. Hope that helps!

@@ThomasCustomWoodworks Oh! I was under the impression that the foldable work table served as a workbench. And since it required the miter saw table I figured the miter saw table would come first. I will look up your workbench video, just in case I missed the point and the workbench serves a supplemental purpose.

To bypass the "need" for an impact driver, when running screws into wood, apply some bee's wax to the screws (not paraffin). Even 4" deck screws go in a lot easier. 😁✌🖖

I can't understand why you don't have more likes on this video. It's a solid, practical, and easy to build design. As for the diagonal brace being better, I can only echo my eighth grade geometry teacher "triangles are always stronger than squares or rectangles".

Thank you for sharing this information on building a foldable workspace. This is a project 😊I might be able to do. It would be my dinner table, work space and crafting table. It would be wonderful for my little space. Thank you again for sharing.❤

my explanation for why diagonal braces are better... its because any racking of the structure places the diagonal member in tension or compression. A right angle joint in wood has only the fastener/glue to keep it in place and the vertical and horizontal members are like levers on either side of that joint... so it racks pretty easily. Adding that brace means that in order to rack it must not just overcome the strength of the joint, but also compress or stretch that brace... which is unlikely.

Why it works better is a long explanation but the simplest explanation of why diagonals reinforce better is because triangles are unique shapes meaning they can only exist in one shape with those lengths where a four sided shape is not unique based on the lengths there are infinitely many other 4 sided shapes that can be made with the same pieces so the shape when forces are applied is more able to bend or reshape itself. triangles because of this distribute the forces in a ratio of the angle of the force being applied to the shape and hold their shape much better. statics are complicated in how forces move through but the basic reason is a mathematics concept first.

Keeps everything square aka stronger. The horizontal one would allow it to rock even if slightly losing square and losing strength.
