I know precious little about woodworking but I know a work of art when I see it

In art school, on my first day at a drawing class, my professor asked us to open our brand new sketch books and draw a large X on the first sheet. This was to take away the stigma of the virgin quality of the paper; it was meant to be drawn on, explored! This may sound sadistic but you should place a hammer blow on the bench top to exorcise the fear of damaging it. You are a brilliant designer and a master craftsman. Keep up the good work!

I was so worried about damaging the top when I built my bench that i was scared to use it for a while. Made it completely useless. Then, one day a chisel slipped and took out a chunk of the top. I was sad at first but then happy because I couldn't actually use the bench! Good advice here

Terrible advice! Let it happen organically. Work like you work because, although your woodworking might appear otherwise, you're not perfect, and it will happen at some point. In the meantime, enjoy your creation, because it is a thing of beauty! Well done.

I'll admit it's a great piece. But they say a craftsman is only as good as his tools. If he had done this without his Cad style sketches to copy from, then this would really be a masterpiece.

@@Hirokijiyou say that as if the CAD software he is using isn’t a tool that requires skill and craftsmanship to use? Using CAD is equivalent to mastering and simplifying pencil and paper design. Kind of a bozo take to say using CAD diminishes this project in any way.

I have been woodworking since the late 60's and this is the most impressive woodworking bench design and build I have ever seen. Truly the "Mother of all Benches"!! Not only was it a build that I will never forget, but it truly can become a new standard for many to emanate for years to come. You have truly built something that many strive for but never achieve. Let's not go too far. Engineering is something very specific involving calculations using tertiary level physics and math. Let's settle on well crafted functional piece of art... E.g. there'd be less "we'll see how it goes" more "this has a safety factor of 3:1"

Man, every YT-er with "ultimate workbench" in it's title, has to change the title to "tried to make the ultimate workbench, but didn't succeed". What you've made is beyond an ultimate workbench and is an ultimate display of craftmanship and eye for detail. I can't imagine the amount of time, glue, sweat and tears, but man, be proud of this piece of art.

This is not just impressive workmanship. This is impressive design, followed by meticulous, calculated craftmanship. This is an absolutely prime piece of machinery. Well done mate! This is certainly something to be inspired by, and something you can most definitely feel proud about achieving.

One of the best looking workbenches I’ve ever seen. Who cares what anyone else says. My tools need to look their best so that I enjoy using them. I've never had a workbench video bring me to tears before! What a stunner! The details are amazing. I 100% agree with you - shop furniture should be a reflection of what you produce. I'm in the process of building my hobby shop, and some have laughed at me for the choice of finishes I have chosen, but I love walking in there and feeling classy and relaxed.

people like you makes me wonder why on earth have I chose to be an Electrician!?!?!?!? I started buying some basic tools to have a go at woodworking for my own place, and all the furniture you made it with curves and the bending technique just blew my mind. A big thank you, honestly. Keep on going master! 🙂

It is not over kill. This piece is Beautiful. It definitely will show your Clients the Quality of your work. Because if you can make a "Work Tool" this Beautiful, they can only imagine what your furniture Pieces you make for them will look like.

Regular people will never understand level of master class in this video. I have seen hundreds of great woodworkers on youtube but only a few can compare their work to this guy. Level of details is just otherworldly.

I have to say as an old precision machinist that bench is a work of engineering art. I love your innovation and thought at what you need to fabricate your furniture. congratulations on fulfilling your dream of building the becnh you need to deliver your art... In a world full of plain, simple, boring furniture/woodworking projects made by people who say embellishments are a waste of time, materials etc, it's nice to see there are still people who will put in the extra work to transform something simple and boring to something that you look at and say wow! Sometimes I wonder if I am wasting time doing inlays, carvings, etc so thanks for not making me feel bad for actually caring about what my pieces look like when they are finished. Beauty really does inspire. Amazing work!!!

I’m nearly left speechless. How lucky are we to live in an age where we get to watch true master artists and craftspeople create masterpieces? I feel such joy knowing people are creating such beauty!

Dude!!! Your work is beautiful. As I watched the scene where the camera panned across the base, revealing the brass fixture of the lift mechanism, I literally gasped! I would never have expected such an elegant detail in the design of a functional, hardworking piece of shop furniture. But then this "worbench" design also includes a breathtaking section of burled, veneer with a finish resembling that of musical instrument... Unbelievable effort, and well worth it!

I’ve never actually been “moved” by a the craftsmanship in something so practical. Thank you for sharing.

Trust in the master carpenter- Jesus Christ! and your inability to work wood will only be temporary. The Lord knows a highlight of my next life will be the woodworking I have no time for now. I've high hopes that the one who conceived of and created trees, who is the root of david, and who came to earth to be raised by a carpenter has love for this particular craft and I intend to ask Him to teach me there.

I'm not even a wood worker, and I watched the whole thing! NEVER be apologetic about pushing your skill to it's absolute limits, even if it's an intellectual exercise. I feel like a large part of our history for craftsmanship focused around ornate and extravagant artistic expression, and only recently have we focused on absolute bare minimum build quality. This utterly inexcusable work of art embodies that highest degree of expressionism and functionality, and it was a PLEASURE to watch. A true master of the craft!

Absolutely incredible. I remember as a kid helping my dad build a workbench that I still use today some 20 odd years later. Although it’s nowhere near the level of this work bench masterpiece you’ve created, there’s something to be said about taking the time to create a workbench that will be used and admired for decades to come. This workbench is nicer than anything I own in life Edit: this video is creative inspiration in multiple forms. The video itself is very well done. It has great storytelling, pacing, great shots, great audio. The workbench, of course is a masterpiece. The upsell to to his Patreon is done tastefully, and it seems like something that has a genuine large amount of value to participate in. What’s not to love?

That is one beautiful workbench. Love all the handy tips you included with the explanation of the individual elements. I'm definitely taking apart my moxon vice to sort the racking issue the way you demonstrated. 👍🏾

The brass rods in the moxon vise might be a weak point. You may wish to consider hardened stainless steel rods to resist the high bending force, attaching them to the moveable face of the vise with hardened steel shoulder bolts that go through the rods and then a fair way into the moveable face. This joint needs to resist a large amount of torque.

Wow, this is indeed a bucket list bench. There is nothing about this bench that is overkill. We need to be reminded that what we do as creative humans is as much about the object that we create as it is how it is created. You good sir are a reminder to me that I can and need to spend time to create the rools that I need to aid in my creativity. Thanks for the reminder as I embark on rebuilding my workshop over the next couple of months!

Hi 👋, Pedulla Studio, I have been watching your KZread for quite some time, very impressed with your work, especially this bench, I went back to the UK about 10 days ago , a friend of mine, and it was somebody that was selling some bits and pieces, i.e. wood, turning tools and a very large workbench, a Rubio, But somebody has changed the legs on it, so it can be taken apart very easy, I paid £50 for it that’s all they wanted, I am picking it up in about five or six weeks time as I’ve got to go back to the UK again, stay safe, look forward to seeing your next projects,

Did anyone else get emotional while watching this? Who would have thought a woodworking KZread video could make someone fall in love with a work bench. I have never seen such QUALITY in ALL aspects of this video. I could go on... I just wanted to say -Thank you.

I've only been woodworking for a couple years just for a hobby, but the more I do the more I love it. One day I will start my own business. This video is so well done man, your explanations and editing are top notch. I can't put out anything nearly as detailed as you but I'm trying lol thank you for the inspirations. I wept. I'm 49, and only started getting into woodworking about six months ago. Even if I eventually get good enough to create something this amazing, I'd only get a few years of use from it. But just knowing that this exists makes me happy. Actually, that's not quite right: knowing that a human wanted this to exist, and had the capability to bring it into reality, makes me happy. It's the same kind of joy and awe I get from seeing an expertly-written bit of code, or a world-class circus artist, or reading a book that shows me something different every time I come back to it, or getting to the end of a Hannah Gadsby show and appreciating the final twist that ties the whole thing together. Thank you for making this, and thank you for taking the time to show it. I'll be getting inspiration from this for years.

Wow! Excellent and inspiring build! I'm tired of seeing the same old ultra-utilitarian get 'er done videos on KZread. This build as with all your other ones is refreshing. It amazes me how many individuals, including craftsmen, devalue aesthetics, seeing function as a paramount over form. I see the opposite. An artifact with little to no form is a mere commodity devoid of humanness.

Absolutely stunning. I love the solution for mobility, I am going to look at my Roubo with an eye to retrofitting something similar. Ditto for easy removal of the split top gap stop. And I love the pop out dogs on the face to support items in the leg vise.

There is no such thing as overkill in woodwork, woodwork is an artform which deserves heart and soul put into it.

Oh my God, this was absolutely mesmerizing. I watched the entire build in at regular speed (I usually watch things at 2X speed). Your artistry and attention to detail is outstanding. I'm getting back into woodworking after a 20 year hiatus, and looking forward to making some fine furniture. My definition of fine furniture just got blown out of the water seeing what you did with your bench, and the other pieces you've built. I plan on teaching my grandkids (oldest of 8 is now 11 years old), and would love to be able to make even a fraction of what you can do and pass that along to them. You got a new subscriber here, and I'm looking forward to learning more techniques from watching how you design and build your pieces.

This is gorgeous and I love how you organized and present the whole video. Subscribed! Only thing that bothers me is not connecting the two wheel platform nuts together so the stay level with one rotation mechanism.
