Thank you Peter. Seeing your selection of your best photographs was very enjoyable. I too loved the mural with the man in the background photograph. I loved the Laundromat photograph and I viewed it not only for the story but in an abstract way, as geometric shapes in a pleasing colour combination.

2023 was my sabbatical... That being said my top 5 picks from your gallery are already in this video: 1. Ritz 2. Dove 3. Laundry 4. Saddle 5. Stockmann All of those are outstanding and would look great printed large in a gallery.

I think your best photo was @ 5:00 - you caught the decisive moment, good exposure, perfect composition. Best monochrome @ 6:48.

Very Enjoyable Peter...I have looked over your past year photos and ranked them ..I ranked them: #1...Your first image of the Cups, #2...the Color image of mural lady with her mouth agape, #3 Laundry, #4...Lighted Oval and Person within (Blk and White), #5...Color image of Puzzle like pieces, with person sitting on top. Others I liked, The snow blocks, Guy peaking around corner... But well done. .You have given me something to look at within my own images...so thanks.... I will work on this. Hi Peter and happy new year. Some wonderful photography in your best of 2023 selection, thanks for sharing the images and your thoughts. We do see a lot of back and white street photography, I do think colour adds a creative dimension as your image of the launderette shows, very nice work.

Thanks. The idea of using more colors is a good idea. It made me think. You are absolutely right that there are quite a few B&W street photos taken over the years.

Again, Peter, thank you for the year of photography. One of your finalists' photos grabbed my eye. It was the one tank & the Ukraine flag? Interesting backstory, I bet?

The tank was brought from Ukraine. The image was made in downtown Helsinki. It is a russian tank that was destroyed by Ukrainians. I have tried to track down the guy that was waving the flag. Have not found him yet.

A very interesting and thought provoking video Peter, which has given me the 'nudge' to do something similar with my photos from 2023 having already had a photo portfolio professionally made of 50 images I consider to be good enough to be printed at A3 size.

Well, Peter, i liked your Laundromat image too, but i think i liked it because of it's politics, as much as the composition and colors. Which is kind of like saying that were i to go through your 14k images, i would undoubtedly have a different selection for 'Your Best' of 2024... although the bicycle seat, which i thought was utterly inspired, would make both our lists. I'll note that i'm really partial to your B&W shots, but also that i feel that, being Finnish, you've probably got an unfair advantage.... I wondered, when you were going through your stats, what were the least used cameras and lenses - not because i'm some gear junky, but because outliers, and the reasons behind choosing them, is interesting in itself. Thanks for the video and all the best for 2024. I'm going to check out your Assignments because it sounds like a valuable exercise... but whether or not living in a swamp in a rainforest somewhere in the back of beyond will allow me the luxury of participating is another thing. Something inside me hopes i can fit it in. Cheers and carry on! from Aotearoa-New Zealand.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Everyone would pick different images. That is why it is sometimes a good thing to get feedback from others. They might see a totally different images.

Thanks, same to you. Yes, I use my X-S20 for my videos.

I mostly take product shots, and I prefer to use macro lenses for this. So, I use the Panasonic 30mm f2.8 macro lens or the 60mm Olympus macro lens. The 60mm Olympus macro is the sharpest macro lens I have seen in the industry and for $500 Canadian dollars, I think it beats lenses from Sony and Fuji. That's why I use micro 4/3rds cameras, because they have the best macro lenses in the business. The only downside is sometimes I have to be aware of a lack of light, but with product photography, I am shooting stationary objects, so I can easily adjust my shutter speed to bridge the gap. I was thinking about going full frame, but I don't think I would get better pictures because I wouldn't be able to use the 60mm macro lens from Olympus. If I went to full frame, I would be spending $4,000 and I might end up with worse pictures than my current m4/3 gear.

In 2023, I took 381 photos (with the OM-D EM-10ii). For lenses, I used: Meike MK 25mm f/1.8 (manual focus): 13 images (3.4 %) Olympus M. Zuiko 45mm f/1.8: 24 images (6.3 %) Panasonic Lumix G Vario 100-300 f/4.0-5.6: 36 images (9.4 %) Olympus M. Zuiko 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II R: 49 images (12.9 %) Panasonic Lumix G 20 f/1.7 II: 54 images (14.2 %) Olympus M. Zuiko 40-150mm f/4.0-5.6 R: 205 images (53.8 %).

I can think of nothing that makes photography less enjoyable that collecting data. Peter, how does this data help you become a better photographer? It reflects what you've done, not what you can do!

The statistics part was about 3 minutes and 30s of a 13 minutes and 30s video. I think the ratio is quite ok. Once a year looking back also that part is interesting. I do not think it makes me that much better if I know what gear was used, just interesting as I wrote.
