What is this?! - A player admitting his mistakes. - Appreciating luck in the game. - Praising the opponent's plays. - Emphasizing safety protocols. - Recognizing his own bias. I've never ever seen this before... I should be simply happy but I can't help feeling a bit confused... Can every football player be like this?

My son is 10yo and plays right back just like you ; we watched the part in this game where you pushed the winger to the sidelines by giving him plenty of space to run to the sidelines… its all about positioning. We must have watched that 10 times. I think he finally got it. Thank you for these kinds of videos .. they really provide insightful lessons. Thank you thank you

Is this professional Level? OMG, how is this possible? Who is willing to pay for that? Sorry, I`m from germany. Our Under 17 teams perform on a higher level than this.
There is a poker book called "Every hand revealed" by Gus Hansen, in which he explains EVERY hand he played during a major, 3-day poker tournament. Well, ths is the same but with football. Its amazing, great content value. No excessive editing or stock sound effects needed, just the game and your insight. A pro explaining the thought process of every play, every move. Cant thank you enough.

Hi Matt, your videos are a great source of inspiration and motivation to me personally. I don't play pro but am very passionate with football. I am also a late bloomer myself, since only recently have I found my confidence in my abilities. I have always played as RB/LB (both voluntarily and unvoluntarily) but now I am trying, and forcing myself, to play in a more advanced role like CM/AM, since I know I can make those through passes and connecting plays. Your videos have helped me quite a lot and I am really grateful that you are taking your personal time to deliver these videos to us. Please keep it up!
It's amazing that you put these videos together. Thank you!

Last season watching Matt I was wondering when a coach would put him in midfield…glad to see this is happening!
love the center mid content!
Thanks Matt. I use your videos with both of my girls (ECNL players). We love your honest assessment of your play and how you highlight what you were thinking in the moment. Keep up the good work, you are helping lots of players!
Long awaited analysis! Thanks Matt!
when you check over your shoulder, you make the best decision and don’t loose the ball. I think for a midfielder it is essential to look over shoulder before receive the ball. Really good video!
I don't play Right back but these videos Help so much Thanks Matt
Man this a nice video. I'm a natural defender who has been playing with a bunch of older guys every weekend. They ALWAYS put me up top or in midfield and I've found that it's so difficult to asses your surroundings and make quick decisions. I'm used to the whole field being in front of me at all times. Midfield is fun but you need to play so smart and fast, it's a real challenge.

Love the analysis videos💪🏼❤
5:05 brilliant play by you there, you released it at a very good moment. As a centre mid when you're trying to find out the guys in space and play that Hollywood pass, sometimes it's easier to just play a simple one which is also very effective.
Thanks for sharing Matt. Great player insight to the positions and play of the match. See you Saturday in Pittsburgh.
been watching you for a minute always helpful.
Wow, what a great video. thanks a lot for a great explanation, so many things to learn for me in this video!
Just came across this video. Well done, great analysis. My son is RB but is toying with vying for the CDM position. I will show him this when he gets back from school. Keep it up! 🇬🇧
Thank you for this kind of content 🙏🙏 That is all we need as a player ! even admiting all mistakes 👍
Thanks a lot. I love these video analyses.
Our soccer is just so hectic. Absolutely zero composure from both sides of the field. 😢

Love that your playing center mid, that's my position and being able to watch you analyze your games is helping a lot
gonna be watching with my nephew , he doesnt play any of your positions but he loves learning different positions so he can understand the game from different perspectives , so thanks for going all out to do this
Brother keep up this great work. I really appreciate you ❤️💪⚽
Thank you!!I'm learning a lot. ..
You looked great overall! Your view of the game, energy and quickness are really good. Although, had you passed the ball a little sooner rather than taking that second and third touch on 10:00 . The quicker you distribute the ball and less touches you take, plus taking running tempos into consideration will help you become an even bigger problem. Keep it up!
This is super useful.
When you released the ball early you looked really good my man. Great work rate too.
America is getting a case study from the Socrates of soccer Himself rn at Inter Miami on how to move both on and off the ball to completely negate entire defensive structures/teams with a single pass. Matt you put out a great video on Busquets a couple years ago that really displayed your understanding of the game at the pro level and described the roll of Sergio very well. This position seems to suit your abilities more then defensive back and it's awesome to see you thriving in the epicenter of the game and starting to command. very cool. I hope having Busi here at home helping leo et al dismantle the opposition is both inspiring and educational and I'm curious to know your thoughts on what you think the Spaniards will do for the game in this country from a cultural and sporting level. Cheers dude and congrats.
Matt’s been so good
Love the vids keep it up Matt, really do think you are one of those most consistent players not only in the USL but in the US
I think when you guys get on opposite side of the field ( second half ) better if you stay wide and high , the same time your RM goes inside between the def and mid.f lines to look for the ball . He has fast feet and good with the ball , he is much more dangerous near the box than just staying wide and making those crosses , you have enough cardio to go up and down and the same time you can make the same good crosses .
Of course i haven't watched the whole match but you seem pretty good. If you fix that weakness of making the correct decision at the correct time and not delaying it then i think your attacking output could be excellent.
15 minutes is so perfect, TEAM DEFENSE YUSSSS
you played so well
Could you make a video of what your gym routine was when you were 17,18 when your workouts were based more on strength, power, and speed.
Great video. The right back kept the player from detroit onside. Both centerbacks stepped and the attacker would have been offsides but the right back did not stay on the same line.
It's impressive how you've integrated scanning and checking over your shoulder into your game. Releasing the ball quickly is something I'm quite good at, Personally, looking over my shoulder is not my forte , old habits kick in, and after a few times I kinda forget about it.

I love your vids hopefully you get to Europe soon
Goat Fr fr 🐐😂
You need to count the amount of time your scanning through out the game and before you receive the ball. Most of these plays you are critical of your decision making but you don’t give your self the time and information needed by properly scanning and positioning yourself. A lot of times your running when you should just be jogging and scanning. For example at 7:20 your running forward into space and you don’t scan the field once, and then you get surrounded by 3 players because you ran so far forward into the crowded space. You said you should have played out to the left but if you had moved slower and scanned the field you would have noticed the space to your right to drive forward and attack with your winger.

Cool video, but I saw 2 great passing opportunities missed you didn't mention in commentary 19:16 after first touch number 72 is in great position 21:32 after you cut inside number 8 made very good move through middle

I tought the same on the second play he could have filter that pass there.
Good analysis! At 10:00 the player was the right choice but the extra touch was costly. Needs a smaller touch for an earlier pass or no extra touch at all. If the pass is played early, theres more room for the winger to get to it. If the LCB vacates the striker to defend the pass, the winger has a free striker to play it to on a cut back. Ultimately as soon as the 3v2 was recognized, playing the ball forward will be more productive than a dribble because the ball moves faster than you do and the space behind is disappearing quickly.
hey matt great game! i have a trial tomorrow, do you have any tips that could help me?
well played
Ref here, absolutely calling that elbow, no yellow but that is always coming out as it was also removing defender's ability to fairly contest the ball in the air.
I have been a soccer for many moons and this is one of my favorite things I have ever seen
3:44 My instinct is to stay full throttle and make that defender come towards the goal line with me (looking for any lapse in his pressure the whole way). - After pushing deep the ball can be protected with a dribbling turn to look for a pass or continue dribbling towards the center of the field (irregardless of the dribble going forward or backwards - to the center field *getting in the box).
whatching your second analysis, and I'm shocked that you are not criticizing your cross timing, I understand if you nailed that part you'd be in barcelona, but you can improve there a bit. at 60 you had so many options, so much time, and even if there wasnt that defender that ball seems to be picked by goalie, your forwards so much behind. your passes to RM were really good
Link up play and possession is amazing it’s just the final third that needs work
Legend says the HFD's goalkeeper is still shaking his head.
16:59 😂 low key calling strikers and wingers slackers. So true though
What is driving the team to put you in this new position?
Gonna have to get some pink boots and a headband now you're playing number 10!

Centre Mid is the most important position imo. The best players play there as they have a bit of everything
much love
Anyone playing sport at any level should take note of your on AND off pitch attitude, that's how you get respect
I was watching IM today and you can see the difference in ball control in Messi, Busquets and Jordi.
You did a lot of good things, but wanted to post negative comment, since we learn most from mistakes (also only my opinion and didnt see anyone pointing it out) 9:55 should pass to Prince right away, no additional touch (left CB wouldn't be able to intercept). Early pass leaves enough space for the pass and Prince to decide pass or shoot. 15:34 bad pass, the direction of the pass makes Connor stop and receive it (no motion forward). Way better if you could pass it a bit forward or pass it to right wing (also an option - long pass to Antoine, but I think hes offside there too). Other option dribble forward and look for through ball (honestly the teammates let you down here since no-one really committed for a run once you moved forward). 16:40 nice ball shielding, great job
4:49 (game clock 37:54) grate rhythm in the tight space, probably would have hit a driven chip to the fella on the bottom of the screen, when you where at the top of the center circle, or after deciding to take one more touch I definitely would have threaded the through ball nailed to the floor up the center.
He is a really good player and keeps possesion of the bal well and also moves well. Only flaw is that he is more defensive minded and would rather go back than take risks. Good performance though
Hey if you do not mind telling me i would like to know what your daily routine looks like as far as workouts and meal plans. You play and analyze super good this helps alot keep the videos up!
Great stuff and explanations .. .just one thing i am noticing quality of your passes to the winger slowing down the gamet ... should be lot sharper and steeper ..
7:19 (game clock 32:23) I would want to check in toward the ball through the space across the center [flowing towards a field switching dribble or passing play], but of course your coach might have already outlined not to make these sort of plays...
2:11 1st touch: I would push for the space into the center of the field. Ball is going to get played forward or backwards switching field.
5:05 Matts window pass😭i didnt know you got that in you.
YOU PLAYED REALLY WELL⚽⚽⚽
In RB role seems you have a little support from your mids, resulting in wing play, which was obviously your opponents plan. Try not to play so fast at the beginning, give your mids a chance to position themselves. Without them you are destined for a pass to your winger. Give it time, hold the ball, move left and right, show your opponent that you could play with left foot also, or right with false pass. Slower is faster sometimes. Anyway - great learning, and awesome commentary! Good job mate!
As a forward when I press defenders I do a little shimmy so they don’t know where my momentum is going
a centermid i hate having too much time, i love being in crowded space, and flickin the ball into space taking out a bunch of players, or shielding the ball and drawing players before passing - its intinct you develop if you played center mid for years and year... but put me on the wing... I HATE IT!
i found a hartford athletic jersey thrifting, i find the usl pretty cool so it’s nice to have a jersey
in the final third.. if the opportunity presents itself for a wall pass into a shot .. take it
Some advice… you have to play faster and trust your teammates on Counterattack situations 👍🏼
I played with your team on pes. Good game dude🎉

Yeah I saw it next to the score board is there league sponsored by efootball or something
best midfielder to learn from and emulate are all the barca legends.. the turn is the most utilized tool for your position
Could you possibly analyze Lionel Messi’s Mls games he makes it look very easy and if you could show how it would help a lot
Hartford needs to sign a defender and a attacker from maybe the English fourth or fifth division if they want to win more games just saying prove me if im wrong.
You need to improve your vertical passes, look out for the striker more, he's gonna tap it back to you and you can play a long ball that goes wide. On the defence side u need to alternate the midfield triangle between you 3 in the middle
which position should i play if long accurate passes and long balls and powerful shots are my strengths ?

I'm Sorry bro, but your 1st mistake was when you froze and all you did was stare at the ball and didn't open up to drop on the out side to support your teammate. This is on minute 2:55. Just clarifying that.👍🏼
