As mentioned in the vid, the white 1969 Beetle 1500 is for sale. Please contact Tim at Roadhouse (who recently restored the car) for more details: roadhousemotor.co.uk/
This is the car that started it all for me, my Zenith Blue 1967 model year Volkswagen Beetle 1500. I saved up with numerous part-time student jobs and bought it when I was 16. As it turned out I found the Bug advertised in an out of date Auto Trader mag and discovered it was still for sale. The rest, as cliche as it sounds, is history. The VW isn't exactly a barn find, but it has sat in my garage gathering dust since 2003. I last drove it on the road in 2003 and last started it a decade ago. This video walks you around the trusty aircooled classic whilst sharing my 1990s memories, pointing out what makes this mild Cal Look special to me, and getting the flat-four engine serviced and fired up.

I swear by Haynes workshop manuals, I've had one for every car I've ever owned, and they have saved me many hundreds of pounds. They really are an in depth guide, that show you every inch, nook and cranny of your car, and how to replace or repair just about everything. What is £15-£20, when you can literally save yourself hundreds!

I appreciate that your Beetle video was supported by Haynes and I have had several of their books over the years, but in case you hadn't come across it the book called "How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive: A Manual of Step-by-step Procedures for the Compleat Idiot" by John Muir is brilliant for Beetle or Type 1/Type 2 owners. I had the Haynes manual too, but the John Muir book has 70's humour, simple and clear instructions, and free hand line drawings (which I found easier to follow than the Haynes photos). It's still available, and if you can get the spiral bound version that's the one to go for. Loved the video - brought back so many memories. I also had the "Volkswagen Story" by KB Hopfinger about the development of the beetle up to post war production. A must read for a beetle nerd.

Ok, Jonny, this officially became my favorite KZread channel. I am older but there was a time in my life when I had beetles.. my uncle helped me rebuild my first one that hadn't run in years . One of the things I will never forget that my uncle told me when I wanted to bling out my car.. those empi parts, the chrome parts.. he said "You know, Chrome, won't get you home... Chrome, won't get you home" I never forgot that. I loved the feeling that you when you drove a beetle you immediately were welcomed into the VW club. no questions asked.. it's running, you're in! I never felt that again until my current car... a tesla. but damn. I want a beetle again now :)

Do it. My first car was a '66 Beatle I bought for $500 in 1984, barely running and rebuilt it with help of a retired mechanic from then abundant salvaged parts. I broke the middle finger of my right hand when the tip got caught in the fan during tuning, I market me for life. Rebuilt the engine professionally in '88, then gave it to my brother-in-law when I moved to Hong Kong in '90. Loved it more than my first wife, LOL.

I purchased my 1967 VW Beetle new, when I was in the US Navy. In those days there was no haggling about the price @1,700. Bought it over the phone and picked it up. Used it for around 6 months. When I went to sea duty in the South Pacific, gave it to my mother. She drove it to 1975, the year she died. She loved the car. It was a great car, wish I still had it.

Hi Jonny, oh my, so happy to see this video. I have the younger brother to your beetle. I have a 1968 VW1500. It is still in good shape, and it feels so good to see your car and your excitement towards it. So yeah, warm greetings from Indonesia.

My first car was a 73 Kombi van (the same year as me). This has me longing for it. I wish I never had to say goodbye. That noise reminded me of being told by people that it sounded like a chopper was landing when I turned up at their house in the middle of the night.

The floods of empathy watching this... I still have my first car tucked away and slightly unloved under a pile of parts picked up over the years. A 1972 1300 bug with a near identical list of mods and retail job back stories. Much love. Keep up the good work.

Because, i'm not into Beetles and i don't like VW as a company in general, but the passion that Johnny transpires in every word, is so great that i just sat through a 30 min VW Beetle whithout even feeling it. I feel that this man can shoot werever video it wants and i will enjoy it...

Wow! My first car was exactly the same. A 66/67 VW beetle 1500 in light blue. Everyone gave me crap about buying it at the time but I loved it (when it was running). I bought it for the same reasons because that year beetle was the perfect one to buy to modify it into the look I wanted. I feel happy that someone else loved the same model car.

This is just brilliant Johnny, I’m an air cooled man myself and it’s great to know you are also.....I didn’t know you worked on Volksworld. Like yourself, my pocket money went on that same magazine from my paper round in Suburban Liverpool. I’ve kept all of my original Volksworld magazines and they have followed me from house to house. I really look forward to seeing your old beetle resurrected and it’s given me inspiration to finish my jeans beetle which has been hibernating in a Volkswagen shaped jigsaw puzzle in my garage for far too long!

Jonny, as a air-cooled Beetle owner in the 1990's myself. I would love you to get yours back on the road. If not only so I can live vicariously through your journey. Before I can find a way to begin mine. I wish I'd kept my Beetle. Hindsight is a beautiful thing, but things change. Thanks for a great video, reminded that life back then was alot like the Beetle. Simple, fun and all problems could be solved with a 13mm spanner. 😀👌

Great clip. just spent 2 years restoring an identical car, same year, same colour Zenith Blue. Had it stored in my garage for 14 years. Its a real beauty now. Just don’t see Beetles on the road these days, tends to cause a lot of interest when out and about. This will be a gem to get back on the rd before its too late.
