The Late Brake Show is the KZread channel of motoring journalist, TV presenter & creative content maker Jonny Smith, aka CarPervert
The Late Brake Show is a KZread platform and website that blends the broad church of automotive appreciation; from EV to V8, classic barn finding to project cars and future tech, Jonny delivers considered, experienced and (hopefully) entertaining fresh car content .
Drawing on his 25+ years as a print and TV motoring journalist, Jonny is driving The Late Brake Show into an era where it is ok to drive efficient, clean, electric vehicles, whilst also appreciating piston machinery of the past, present and future.
Thanks for stopping by The Late Brake Show.

Jonny that was bloody ace! Well done. My choice of car for that event? How about a jacked-up Hillman Imp? :)
Thanks, this was great entertainment!
Jonny, I’m a chronic Insight abuser here in US. I currently own 13 of them. 8 silver ones, 4 blue ones, one citrus. My first one finally died after I drove it from 202,000 miles when purchased to 483,000 miles. I really like your Citrus car. Mine has about 170k miles on it but yours is in much nicer condition. Im hoping to get a large dent fixed and a paint job on it soon. Cheers!
15s where massive back in the day, I can remember my mate changing from 14s to 15s on his XR3i and thinking they were massive... Today I have 20s on my car as standard lol
Trials by (mis)adventure! Love it.
A bit late to the Christmas Party.... Sorry Auction, my picks from this Auction would be the Escort Mexico knowing it hsd been featured on the Late Brake Show and possibly that Ital....
Brilliant - well done to everyone involved!!
Good work lads, great co-driving Sion!
love the appearance from @Gutterrailcars in the Ax!
Well done Matt and Hannah you both deserve it based on the hard work you’ve put in.
A Mini One and a Cooper is not the same!
A great end to a lovely series!
You bloody heros! Well done
I thoroughly enjoyed this series! Thanks Jonny!
Every car is an off roader if you don’t give a shit.
Famous words
I thoroughly enjoyed this series, Johnny. All your videos are a joy to watch but this was exemplary!
This is the best entertainment I got out of KZread in don't know how long. Thanks for that! Now I want to take part in a trial as well!
Great video. The only car youtube channel that puts everything on the line in the name of variety. You shun the algorithm, you shun the classic youtuber personality and you follow your sense of taste. It's heartening to see that it's successful.
2:00 "teaching car drivers to work a sequential gearbox" uhh... we do know how to work those? Modern semi-auto cars have this?? Or is Morgan so far in the past they forgot auto-boxes and sequential-actuated boxes exist nowadays and not just H-pattern manuals...? Well, a three-cylinder isnt too bad...
Drove an R4 from Wales to Lanzarote last year. Didn't miss a beat despite 40 C through Spain. She averaged 50 mpg, over 3500 km, and was an utter delight. Cruises all day at 100 kmh, very happily, superb stability, despite being threatened by overtaking Eurobarges, passing at 150 kmh! Sensational little Cars. The 1100 Cleon engine is very sweet. Parts availability is excellent in Europe. Try one....or any Classic Renault.😊
Well done team, great effort and what an amazing experience!!
There is no E in Bridgwater, just saying
😔
I'd take a Citroen C15. Loved it. Would smash the off-road sections
Great idea. A c15 on tip toes!
Shit WOW on the edge of my sofa shouting come on little Kia .. again superb content great to see an affordable motorsport featured.. fantastic show of driving skill and sheer determination.. from the pair of you and all involved.. Jonny love your KZread channel keep up the fine work .. ohh car wise ? ? Smart car with a heavy Old Ford 2.8 v 6 fitted..
I'd be interested in seeing any EV do the course (no, I don't mean the Honda any1 EV). I guess the weight would be the main issue, but if it's in the right place, maybe that's not so much of an issue?
Good idea. Lightened Leaf or BMW i3?
We were camped up at Perranporth petrol station watching the cars and bikes come through. Didn't see you but glad you made it through.
Jonny needs to put his foot down! Slower than a milk float.
Thank you for making these videos everyone, they were excellent, congratulations 👍
Are these off roading alloys ?
You have shown our weapon, silver MX5 Plonkertoy
Kia should keep this in a museum as it is warts and all.
I was on holiday in Cheltenham Gloucestershire in the late 1980's and saw one in a back street garage. Sadly the garage was closed, as it was a summer evening. I only new what is was as I'd read about them, fantastic car. Apparently the breaks were not powerful enough for the double engine set up I recall. Id had a Dolly back in the day also a number of Beetles, I love air cooled cars.
Jonny what a superb series. You’re going from strength to strength. Love it x
Many thanks 😉
So, is it actually the first 'new' car to do the trail? The first with a 71 reg sure but I'm also sure old cars were new once and mad bustards have been throwing them at the trail since we'll forever
Yes and no. The trial originally existed to test the reliability of new vehicles, so in effect we are going back to the original ethos of the Trial itself.
Honda acty would be an interesting choice 🤔
More like rompford
5:24 Brilliant food choices when you're about to spend a whole day trapped in a small car with another person.
We thought so too. 😬
This was a fun series, thanks for the escapism.
Suzuki Alto 800/1000 do really well in the himalayas. They often put larger SUVs to shame. You'll see "Lord Alto" videos on KZread.
Jonny's bro had an Alto and loved it. Good idea.
Hahahaa the jack you used at the rime replacement I have in the boot of my car!!! What are the chances!!? 12000 miles away!
I think your crazy using a modern Kia. The problem is not the power, it's the weight. A lighter lower powered car would do way better a ton bouncing over rocks is never going to do as well as an older 700kg car. It's all about sprung weight. Entertaining though, well done.
OK, find us a lighter brand new car. Because remember the premise for this was that we are using a new pre-prod Kia that is destined to be destroyed for tax purposes.
@@TheLateBrakeShow Oh I agree, new cars have too much tech and safety equipment on them. I'm surprised some sensor didn't trigger and put the car in limp mode.
Hi jonny greetings from Thailand can you use l s d diff
Yes, we could use a LSD if there was one available for the Picanto.
wish i found out about trialing earlier, wouldve been a great sendoff for my first car before i had to scrap him (terminal rust, too much to fix so my hand was forced)
Great review - and a LOT of comments to read Can I please just ask the one question that no Abarth 500e review seems to tackle, which is - how does it compare to the FIAT 500e? Is there as much of a difference as there was between the petrol FIAT 500 and petrol Abarth 500? I suggest probably there isn’t, because FIAT 500e and Abarth 500e both have this larger platform, heavier, and the power difference between them doesn’t seem much? No-one seems to have driven a FIAT 500e along those B-roads in that way :) so it’s hard to get a good measure of what the difference is Thanks
Back in my neck of the woods! I remember my Dad taking us up Beggars Roost in the company car! Austin Maxi in the late 70’s
Really? I bet that sounded awful!
@@TheLateBrakeShow it definitely did!, left most of the exhaust on the hill I believe! Keep up the good work Jonny ~ thanks Paul. Ps you should do the next one with Greg!
More Revs more revs
35:58 would've been a good idea to not put that in, looks like a public road?
Amazing performance by car diver and navigator!
UVA fugitive with a quick rack on it, 2 L pinto in the backend
Relatively easy to get 1 hp per cubic inch from an old school sbc, the extra 50 could be gained for way less expense than the cost of all that dohc stuff, that should be making 500hp plus.
