I am a member of st. ANTHONY'S guild and Franciscan Mission Associates. I attended summer school with the Franciscan sisters of Christian charity 1963. I am retired now and volunteer with st. Francis hospice run by sisters of st. FRANCIS SYRACUSE, NY Mother Maryanne. I am an Associate of the Sacred Hearts, SS.CC. ST. FRANCIS is my favorite Saint. Well, there are options. There is one Third Order that is truly an Order-the Secular Franciscans or OFS. But some people do prefer to be under a bishop or friars. Then the question of the Rule. The Secular Franciscan Order follows the Rule of 1978. Some prefer the rich prayer life of the Leonine Rule or the clarity of direction in the Rule of 1221. It’s not mix and match, so you will need to pray about it & talk to a Spiritual Director if you have one. A good way to get a feel for a group is to read their websites and newsletters. And please know that each fraternity is different, so once you have the Order down, you will still need to find a fraternity. Whew! I know that’s a lot, so feel free to ask any follow-up questions.
