Hi, my name is Deanna and I'm a Catholic wife; mother; Secular Franciscan; house rabbit, hermit crab, and dog mom; vlogger; artist; and writer. After having homeschooled my son & worked several jobs in art and nature, I went back to school and back to more school! Now I have my Master's in Education from Franciscan University of Steubenville, a Master's in Pastoral Studies from Holy Apostles College and Seminary, and a Certificate in Catholic Women's Leadership from the Benedicta Leadership Institute for Women. I also *finally* discerned my calling to the Secular Franciscan Order. While in formation, I was blessed with a gift for Lectio painting. How do I keep this crazy life organized? I didn't until I found The Happy Planner. So join me as I figure out my "what next" and really try to live this beautiful, blooming Catholic life. Generally, Mondays' videos are book previews, Wednesdays are forFranciscan grab bag, and Fridays’ videos are practical theology. Views are my own.

I pray that everyday
TL:DR?
Love the review. After watching your review I decided to get the book. Which one do you prefer, this one or Life of Christ by Fulton Sheen?
Oh. Great question, but although they have the same subject, they present it in very different ways. Bishop Sheen’s book is more conversational and this one has a more scholarly tone.
great review! Thank you.
I just bought the Monastic Diurnal a couple weeks ago. I have the LOBVM, and I am now looking into buying the Ordinariate DW:DO. I think I may have an addiction problem.
@@timevampire83 I admit that I use different Offices in different circumstances. It might be easier just to have one, but with everybody using different ones, I like to be able to join them. Sometimes I enjoy the variety…All that being said, I do wish it was more universal/united (aka Catholic).
I wish he did the Luminous Mysteries on Thursdays.
The program is called the “Our Lady of Fatima Rosary Crusade;” Our Lady asked the children to pray 1/3 of the Rosary everyday. This indicates that the Rosary could be divided into three sets of mysteries and that indicates that there were only three sets mentioned in this request. There may be merit in praying the more recently added Luminous Mysteries, but, for these reasons, those are not usually included in any Fatima devotions.
Thank you so much for explaining this.
How can I purchase the book?
Whoops! I tried to include the link, but didn’t realize it wasn’t working. Thanks for pointing this out. Try EWTN Religious Catalog: www.ewtnreligiouscatalogue.com/the-little-office-of-the-blessed-virgin-mary/p/BKMAR05401
This is solid. You planted a seed. What was happening in America in the turn of the 20th Century is happening worldwide now and so a new form of "Americanism" has emerged worldwide and the synod is a discrete adoption of "Americanism"
We have to stay humble and keep praying. Relying on God instead of ourselves is key not only to our personal faith journey, but to everything.!

Never heard of this Are they MUSTHAVE for these end times too? And what does it mean that the indugences are no longer in effect? Thank u mam for posting this truly valuable information God bless u more!

Great question! Many people start with Compline and then, after they understand the rhythm, add in other hours. It is also common to pray Lauds and Vespers.
Thank you very much for all this advice. God bless you.
Hello, greetings to you, Sister of the Secular Franciscan Order. Peace and goodness
You cripe, be 😂
Hi Deanna. I always, always learn something new from you. Even though the Psalms are my favorite, for some reason I never knew Psalm 116 was the shortest. And it’s so beautiful! It was also interesting that you answered what I was thinking on Psalm 32. After you read, “To David himself, understanding “. I was wondering what that meant. And you gave your thoughts on that very thing. God bless,Linda
@@craftoncue I’ve read that the word “Mizrat” (translated in the DR edition as “understanding”) is somewhat mysterious. It might mean “a contemplation” or “a difficult (advanced) teaching.”
the fact that Strickland recommends it is rather a point against in my book, but if CC also endorses, means it's not an intimidate yuck. Some of the chapter titles are like stating Conservative and Traditionalist errors. Liberal Society is not always Secular, Liberal Society is always Pluralistic. Which may tend toward Secularization more over time, particularly if religions people don't evangelize effectively A lot of conservatives don't hold up that mirror and realize the fault is in ourselves
If you don’t want to buy the book, you may want to consider borrowing it from a library, if no other reason than to hear them out.
@@DeannaWillistonOFS Plan to, found you because my pastor said. I should discern the third order.. My first reaction was what is that?
@@piusbird ah, I would ask him to be more specific. There are many groups within the Third Order of Saint Francis that laity might join. Every few months I seem to hear of another one.
Hi Deanna. I’m still catching up on videos. Thank you for talking about this book as I purchased it awhile back when you spoke about it as you know. However, I haven’t taken time to dig into it. On a secondary note, you are so correct about trying to have quiet time with our Lord before Mass. It’s a struggle at our church because typically the organist is practicing the songs for Mass and often a singer practicing along various responsorial hymns with him. There is often chatting happening among parishioners. Very distracting when trying to pray. God bless, Linda
@@craftoncue do you have an Adoration chapel or prayer garden at your parish? You may want to start your recollection there and see if it helps.
Excellent idea except sadly we don’t have either at our parish. Thank you for always offering such excellent advice you’ve helped me in many many ways. God bless, Linda
Growing up, my parish did not have a chapel or grotto either, but they have recently added a niche outside and a statue of Mary. It’s off to the side a little, so it is a place for more quiet reflection.
@@DeannaWillistonOFS maybe someday we’ll have one of those too. Our new pastor has made several wonderful additions to our church since he’s been there (almost a yea now). We do have a cry room, but needless to say it isn’t typically quiet in there before Mass. We do have Adoration all day on Tuesdays and it’s always quiet then, which of course it should be.
Sister Deanna, I pray all is well with you. My wife and I were blessed to be in Rome during the Year of Mercy and were able to walk through the Holy Doors of the major Cathedrals there i.e., St. Peters, Mary Major, St. John Lateran, and St. Paul's Outside the Walls (also was at Mother Teresa's canonization). Was a very moving experience, especially at St. Peters. Quite the blessing for us. Anyway, where did you purchase your Franciscan Crown Rosary? I've been wanting to get one large enough that I could wear around my waste. Bless you and your apostolate. KSC OFS

It’s hard for me to articulate how this Lectio and your thoughts hit me. Thank you! Also, I’m the same with the Modern Catholic Dictionary, I look up something and then start reading the other words and meanings around it. I tell everyone about this book. God bless, Linda
Oh Deanna, that sounds lovely, but exhausting too. A beautiful way for offering it up to our Lord. Although I could never walk that far anymore, but I should do very small walks saying the rosary. Your idea of the putting the hooks on your rosary, genius! I’ve wondered how to wear my rosary instead of keeping it tucked in my pocket daily but never thought to do that. Just beautiful. Hi Deanna. I’ve been neglectful in doing Lectio Divina with you and found myself missing this so much. Distraction with nonsense that helps me zero in spiritual growth has been the culprit sadly. That being said, this Psalm is beautiful and praying for those who have wronged us and asking for their conversion speedily. I hadn’t thought of that before. I love the Psalms! On a separate note, the Modern Catholic Dictionary, recommended by you, is invaluable to me. I use it constantly, almost daily, and don’t know how I read the Bible properly prior to purchasing this since I’m always looking up something. God bless, Linda.
Hello Mrs. Williston, I’m just commenting to inform you that Antipope Francis is the head of a false or Counter-Church created by the Freemason Antipope John XXIII and Vatican II. Unless you convert to the true Catholic faith, as can be shown to be necessary with this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mKqez9ieidqWpKg.htmlsi=kLgyVh0NOk80o72n, you will be damned to Hell to burn for all eternity. Please, for your own sake, save your soul so that you may not perish in eternity.
Modest? All the pulling up you did with your skirt and showing nearly everything… pants are much more modest 🤦♀️
I never use the skirt in that way. I don’t know why I tried for the video. I will edit that part out.

Pax et Bonum!
@@DeannaWillistonOFS pax et bonum 🤗
There is actually some debate on whether St Francis was actually a deacon or not. I’ve met a Franciscan priest who told me he was convinced he wasn’t, as there was a rule in the Middle Ages that the only people who were allowed to read the Gospel at Mass were deacons and the founders of religious orders, which St Francis obviously was. I don’t have a dog in that fight, but it’s interesting that it’s possible that he was a pure layman all his life
That St. Francis was a deacon is explicit, although with explanation of how it came to be, in Celano’s Legend in the story of the institution of the Greccio. Some translations say he was dressed as a Levite as he was a Levite and others use the word “deacon.” From his actions, it would seem deacon is the correct modern translation. He did read the Gospel, but not did not preside over the Mass, but the detail about his clothing implies deacon.
@@DeannaWillistonOFS I’m not saying you’re wrong as I don’t know the source material on this, but I am saying there is an ordained Franciscan priest who directly disagrees with you. I don’t know what provision he was referring to where founders of religious orders had specific roles during liturgies, but if it did exist, it could explain why he would be vested at Mass if they had a special role in the recitation of the gospel, and maybe even preaching (though I’m not sure if the priest in question referred to him actually preaching or not). I am not deep on the history of this topic myself, I’m just saying people who are aren’t all in unanimous agreement on this point.
@@brotherbruno1783 no worries. I was just citing the only source on this and the logic, just in case you run into him again. Lol There are so many Franciscan orders, with their own charisms, if you could specify the order, it might help me to find his research. I can only find it in the positive.
@@DeannaWillistonOFS The priest in question was a TOR. I know who it is but I don’t want to cite his name for obvious privacy reasons. I’m interested in hearing more about this provision about the founders of religious orders having a role in the liturgy, that’s an interesting claim that I’ve not heard before. Then again, I don’t know much about the liturgical customs in the thirteenth century. Still, TOR’s are pretty highly regarded
@@brotherbruno1783 thanks! That’s does help. And totally understand about not naming names. I’d be interested in his research as well, if he cares to share.
